View Full Version : Requesting some help during a difficult time

Hi everyone,
I’ll keep this short. I’m currently going through a very challenging period and would like to request some financial assistance or support if possible.
I was recently discharged from bankruptcy and, shortly after, was laid off from my job. Earlier this year, my mum underwent major surgery due to a gallbladder tumour. My dad and I have been taking turns caring for her, but it has been extremely difficult as he works full-time as a cleaner and I have been trying to manage multiple part-time jobs since losing my primary income. Despite this, I’m still struggling to cover basic living expenses for my family.
On top of that, the financial stress has affected my personal life, leading to my girlfriend leaving as well. It has been an overwhelming time — from bankruptcy, to losing my job, to my family’s health situation — all happening at once.
I know this may not be the ideal platform to share something so personal, but I truly hope there may be someone who is willing to extend a helping hand, whether financially, emotionally, or through opportunities.
I’m 37 (M) and previously worked as a personal trainer. I remain active in the fitness industry, and if anyone is open to it, I would be more than happy to offer personal training, coaching, or any fitness-related services in exchange for support. I’m also open to discussing any legitimate work opportunities or collaborations. Even a listening ear would mean a lot during this low point in my life.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I sincerely appreciate any form of support or understanding.

Sorry to hear about your situation.
Just curious, I always thought that personal trainers are like self employed and work with different gyms and clients. Will get laid off.
No offence bro, just want to know more as I always thought the job can earn decent money with the occasional contact with XMM and rich tai tai

Hi bro, I used to have a decent client base before I decided to make a mid-career switch. Most of my clients were expats so my income would take a hit whenever their contracts ended. To answer your question yes I’ve seen it happen personally, but unfortunately it didn’t work out that way for me. A handful of my ex-colleagues were luckier, I’d say.😓

Hi bro, thanks for the reply. I assume your mid-career switch probably didn't turn out well and potentially got you into your finance issue. I hope it's not the case of spending too much on marketing as a property agent or some MLM thing.
Have you thought of going back to being a personal trainer and focusing on a local clientele base?

Hi bro thanks for checking in.
You’re right and it was a pretty dramatic situation with my ex. She wasn’t comfortable with me being a PT because she was afraid of the kinky stuff that might happen so out of respect I quit and went to work for her dad.
A couple of years later her dad found out about my bankruptcy and started worrying that I wasn’t an ideal partner for his daughter and might affect the family’s image. I ended up losing the job and shortly after my girlfriend left me too.
I wasn’t earning much working for her dad and most of my income went towards her, so I didn’t manage to build up any savings.😓
Not the smartest moves but I guess I was too invested in the relationship at that point. .
I’ve tried reconnecting with my former clients but most have either relocated or found another PT since I left the industry. Marketing will also take time to gain traction and it’s tough competing with so many fitness influencers and bodybuilders in such a saturated market.
Expats generally have stronger spending power compared to local clients, that’s just the reality of it. Once they see the value you bring as a PT, the cost isn’t really an issue for them. Locals however, rarely consider hiring a trainer and even when they do, it’s usually only for a short-term period of 2–6 months. They also tend to be more price-sensitive.😓

Sorry to hear about your situation.
It is indeed tough when family, finances, work, relationship and health issues all come together.
I applaud you for being brave, able to word your situation properly during such times and choosing to do legit work instead of resorting to scams.
Hopefully you have someone like a counsellor to talk to.
Perhaps you can share what other skills you have or your plans beyond a personal trainer.
Also have you considered posting your PT services on carousell? Or using skillsfuture to find a job? Hopefully you are also seeking your MPs help or even family centre to get help with family expenses given the situation.

Hi bro, I’ve spoken to a therapist about this and it does help ease the stress a little, but I’m still feeling overwhelmed on certain days. I’ve also reached out to several government agencies regarding my current situation and have already submitted my application for financial aid.
I’ve always had strong interpersonal skills and being a PT has definitely helped refine that. I’m planning to pursue both financial planning and property in the future so that’s a work in progress. I just need to hang on a bit longer until things stabilise. And yes I have been advertising PT services on IG and Carousell.

Stay strong. Bankrupty is not the end of the world. There are way to circumvent it. Find a part time job to have some income first. Upgrade yourself using skill future credits. Plan your time to incorporate all your commitments. Struggle is always there but treat it as a stamina training like your past routine. Reading is also important to psychic you up to stay positive and forward looking to relinquish your bankrupty status. Important is, never ever borrow from any illegal moneylender as legit ones will not be able due to your status. Don't create trouble to obstruct your way to earning your dole.
I wish you a speedy road to achieve what you want and wish. Stay positive.

Hi guys, just want to say thank you for all the encouragement and support. I really appreciate everyone who’s been there for me during one of the toughest periods of my life.
I am trying my best to get through this and honestly it has been one hell of struggle. I am just swamped with waves of emotions at times and it gets so exhausting. A part of me wants to give up and a part of me is screaming for help. For those who have been through something similar, what did u do to get through it?

I would say I’m fortunate that I had support from two close friends during my darkest period. Times like this really show you who your true friends are, the ones who remember how you helped them in the past and don’t disappear when things get difficult.
I’m not sure about your parents’ situation, but if they are eligible, do look into grants such as ElderShield, DAS, HCG, FWD Silver Support, etc. These schemes can make a real difference if your parents meet the requirements.
As for a girlfriend leaving, it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. That was the case for me. On one hand, I wasn’t in a good position to be in a relationship then, so letting her go was probably the right thing. On the other hand, if someone stays with you through such a period, you’ll know she’s someone who could truly be family in the future.
I went through something similar about seven years ago, and I managed to come out of it, not instantly, but alive and stronger. You’ll need to hang in there and give yourself time to adjust. What you’re doing or feeling now may be very different six months or a year from now, so try to stay open and flexible.
Most importantly, no matter how hard things get, don’t do anything illegal or compromise your integrity and moral principles. Also, try not to see yourself as a victim. When we start believing life is unfair to us, we may subconsciously expect pity or special treatment, and that can trap us in the same stage for much longer than necessary.
You’re not alone, and it’s okay to take this one step at a time.

Hi bro, thank you for the suggestion 🙏🏻
Just an update:
I am excited to share that I have officially started a new chapter in insurance. I am in the learning process and currently looking for opportunities to practice my policy reviews (at no cost) to help find hidden gaps or overlaps in coverage. If you’d be open to letting me take a look at your current coverage, I’d be so appreciative of the experience. No pressure at all and I'm just grateful for the support as I grow.
Thank you!

Hi bro I really appreciate you reaching out. Unfortunately, I don’t have my driver’s license yet. I was more than halfway through my lessons but had to pause due to my current situation.
Insurance is taking up most of my day right now and I am trying to fit in a few personal training sessions to help supplement my income. I have been keeping my expenses as low as possible but they are adding up. Last month was quite tough and i am already running a deficit. I am genuinely looking for support through PT during this period and hope people could lend me a helping hand.

Hey bros, I’m currently taking on a limited number of clients for personal training, whether it’s one-to-one or two-to-one sessions.
I’ll only be around for the next quarter (if all goes well), so I am really looking to make the most of this period and help those who are serious about improving their fitness, strength, and overall health.
If you’ve been thinking about getting started or taking your training to the next level, this could be a good time to begin. I’ll make sure you get proper guidance, structure, and accountability throughout.
Appreciate you taking the time to read this and feel free to reach out if you’re keen 🙏

Hi everyone, I have received a few messages requesting intimacy/sexual encounters so I just wanted to clarify things. I am straight and would not be comfortable engaging with men, I’m only open to women in that context.
That said for the guys here who are looking to improve their sexual performance I will be happy to help. I can guide you through specific exercises to strengthen your pelvic muscles and enhance overall performance. Feel free to drop me a PM at @sujy88 for personal training enquiries.
I am also currently helping with policy reviews for Shield Plans. If you’re unsure about what has been happening, don’t hesitate to reach out as well.
Have a great evening everyone!

Hopefully you’re not in debt, but if so, a debt restructuring scheme might be helpful
As for insurance, think of your USP. Many others can do what you are offering to do/learning to do, but there is always the star factor about a person that makes you the best person to do it
Can dm me if you want a view on that
