Was at H81 Kovan last evening for a Massage session with Xiao Juan.

GAVE THE RECEP $50 GOT A SHIOK WHEN THE RECEPTION ONLY CHANGE $20 AND POINTED TO A NOTE ON THE COUNTER.

Please note tht Hotel81 Kovan Now charges $30 for 2 hours.

actually i went to H81 kovan abt 2 weeks ago on a wednesday at 4.30 pm - the place was full, with a 45 minute waiting time! I was shocked that it was so busy at that time of day. So, maybe kovan think that they are now in the big time and can up their price. Anyway, on that day i went to fragrance which is right next door - they still had rooms available, and at $20. So I took one. Dunno why ppl still queuing next door at H81 when fragrance is next door with rooms available.

Anyway, as bro HeadOn say, prob other operators will follow H81 with price increase soon too.

actually it really depend on the cost structure of the hotel operators too..Fragrance or others might choose to stay put but if they cant withstand their cost pressure, they might cut back on others to make up for it too, like for eg they cut back on the time they used to clean the rm, use less detergent or even plain water to clean the rm etc..end up u pay less but a dirtier rm in return

kovan 81 told me that the price increase went into effect on monday. Now they also quite chao, must be upfront in asking for 'wake-up' call. Exceeding the specified time will cost additional $15 per hour or part thereof. Best thing to do, set alarm on hp to 10 minutes b4 room expire for cleaning action.

I'm not sure about Kovan, but Bugis, Bencoolen are both SGD 30 for 2 hrs. One of the reasons is that their in "prime land", ie within CBD area. (cisty area.. watever u call it).

Went to one at Lavendar last time, (there got 2 fragrance hotels) Went to one which caters more to tourists and haf daily rates, but olso offer hourly but more ex. I asked the male staff ,he directly say "we dun haf hourly rates"

Then the female staff interjected and said, "we haf, but more exp, we usually cater for daily rates. for tourists"

their hourly rate was like $50 for 2 hours... but she advised me to go further down the road.. there is de budget n hourly rate one.. haha.. i was like a schoolboy being taught a lesson.

Anyways, bizmen will be bizmen. If got opportunity to make more bucks from us, they will do it. Some 81 don call u when time almost up.. and tell u when u return key at recption.. forcing u to cough up the extra 10 for the time overshot. Sometimes this can be embarassing.. but when it happened to me, I din care.. I paid de reception n asked.. "how much more time do i haf?" The staff were shocked.. n checked, den said, "45 more mins"

I took back the key, told the gal I was wif to allow me some more time.. and went back up to the room.. the recption area got other ppl and all were a bit surprised. In the end, I paid the gal i was wif a discounted rate and we just had another round. I was her regular so she was ok wif a discounted rate. Plus, it was partly her fault for overshot time as she was late.

So that day, I got 3 shots for the price of err.. ahh.. ps.. math no good.. just say its good price for me la.

Most 81s are still @ 20.. I guess we really need to find alternatives and share amongst this thread so we can reference back for backup hotels.. and also educate the girls on the newer/budget ones rather then let 81 hold us ransom.

Decided to try Fragrance for a change today but I feel that personally I would still prefer Hotel81 except that I would go to other outlets since Kovan one is priced above it's standard.

I would rather pay $30/2hr for a better and bigger room at Bugis Hotel81 instead.

My humble notice of differences between Hotel81 and Frangrance (Kovan)

1) Beverages: Hotel81 offers Bottled Mineral Water, Fragrance offers Cup Mineral Water
2) Beddings: Hotel81 offers thicker bedsheet, comforter and pillow. Fragrance offers paper-thin bedsheet, hospital-like blanket/comforter and out-of-shape pillow.
3) Toilet: Hotel81 offers Hand-held shower-head w/ holder. Fragrance only offer Wall Mounted Shower-head (Difficult to wash bottom)

Just some humble opinions of mine, not any shareholders of Hotel81 though I seem to favor Hotel81.

I'm back from GL18 Frangrance & since we're on the topic of Hotel81 refusing to give us competitive pricing on their rooms, here is what I have to say. I got a room for transit (2 hours) for $18. This is the cheapest I have ever paid for a 2-hour block but there are some compromises.

I have visited 2 branches of Fragrance Hotels & I find that the rooms are not as nice as Hotel 81. This is to the best of my knowledge & it is a fact to me. The air con took quite a while to cool the room & it was "vibrating" noisily so if you are really there to spend the night or catch forty winks, you might be kept awake by the background. The TV has 3 of 4 buttoms missing (2 for volume, 2 for changing channels) & it was showing TV1. I do not understand malay so it was a tough decision to make. Leave it on & not understand a single word or turn it off & the room becomes a little too quiet. The bedsheets do not feel as clean as Hotel 81 & the check in takes significantly longer than Hotel 81.

In Hotel 81, they scan your NRIC, you scribble your initials on a piece of paper & they send you on your way with the key. Once at Fragrance, the guy was using TWO fingers to type in my particulars into the system & I nearly feel asleep at the counter. OMG...

In the past, it was Hotel 81 all the way. Cheap, good & clean. You get two bottles of mineral water, 1 sachet of milo & 1 sachet of coffee as well as the Super cup noodle. Nowadays these "freebies" are missing & the price has gone up. So on 1 hand, you got cheap & not so good. The other hand is good but no longer as cheap as before & it is getting worse because they feel you don't need to drink coffee / milo or eat something after your bonk with WL / FL / S.O.

A simple choice has been made complicate & if Hotel 81 wants to maintain their market share, they should never ever change the formula that got them to where they are today,.

Hotel 81, I am a huge fan. Please do not make me switch alliance. Are you listening H81???

The rooms are nice. I spent a day bonking there yesterday, and can vouch that the place is ok. Maybe there are better bargains out there too.

I have good suggestion and a good location at Jln Sultan 81. Place are new and price the same recep friendly. Only negative point is parking problem. You ethier park at sultan plaza, textile plaza. Plus point is they even hace bath tub in some of the rooms.

Do try Dickson 81 along Jalan Besar road, brand new hotel, location used to be the Dickson hotel, charges at $20.00/ 2hrs, room tastefully renovated with 20" LCD TV and dvd player, worth a try before they raised the price.

New budget hotel (Value hotel) at the junction of Thomson and Balastier, big banner outside the hotel overnight @ $69.00 not clue about the hourly rate, maybe got to check it out.

GAVE THE RECEP $50 GOT A SHIOK WHEN THE RECEPTION ONLY CHANGE $20 AND POINTED TO A NOTE ON THE COUNTER.

near Lavender St got h81 Lavender, Violet $20. nearby Foch Rd got h81 Elegance (behind Lavender FC) $30. 3xH81. Backlane of Cavan Rd got one outlet with five rooms for rental.
