View Full Version : Office Politics make me lose my job
Hi bro,
Dunno right to post here. Just like to vend out my frustrations as I lose my job. I was really helpless and did nothing wrong. I was being plot as I am new (only 3 month). As I am being recruit as senior post, they are worry that I being spying on them, they longer not in comfortable zone anymore. The boss is alway not in and the whole is being lazy and not performing the job well.
The mastermind behind is an lady which is the longest staff in company. She has instruct the whole team (mostly Malaysia) not to update and share any info with me. So I cannot perform my job n duties properly. They even boycott not to talk to me, so i am alone in the office. The team are mostly Malaysia and I only Singaporean, sorry that I am not racism. I have hightlight many times to my boss about the situation, however, as I am new, so i was alway being left entertained by boss. They even steal my project ideas and work privately with my boss saying it their concept. I being being betrayed. Everyday going to work is an nightmare. I understand why brother would say I stupid to stay, but I just want to prove to those people wrong and I can make the company better. But to sad to say before I can do that, I was sacked without no reason. I feel so depressed, not losing the job. But I was being setup and never in my life being terminate in work.
The morale of my story is to know any brother here have similar stories and how you handle such office politics and backstabbing? Where do I did wrong to land into such situation?
Do you guys agree most office politics is start by women? Gals can also give your comments.
Feel free to share your stories.:(
Please share your experience if you have similar incident how to deal with it.

Braddah, you let a woman and a Malay move you out? One thing bradddah is you need to establish and project power in situation right away. Braddah you need to let people know at any time when they violate SGean space you are willing to go nuclear and fizzle the Malays back into their huts. Braddah, women who are not afraid to play office politics with a man and master country SGean basically kind of assume you are wimpy ie small dick guy. Not saying its personal nor true. Braddahm next time confront her directly. Braddah, thats best way to handle.

Agree with you bro ! even in sbf there are politics with different sects and clans . TS your job is at stake , its either you step up or you step out of your job . Stepping up now is a make or break decision but staying passive will get you fired soon . so think over it properly .

It is a fact that Singaporeans are marginalised in the workplace. Thanks to the MIW's pro-FT policy for causing many Singaporeans to be jobless.
If your boss do not support u and is biased against u,then there is no point staying in the company.
My limkopi kakis always said 99% of bosses/employers in Singapore are nasty bastards !

Men and women are equally good at gossiping in the office.
The real mastermind behind office politics is usually a man who cleverly make use of others' mouths to spread words.
Just speaking from personal experience. :)

Well, I classified this as office bullies. Either you face up to them or tell your boss. BUT, if your boss allowed such thing to happen, then the best way is to quit your job and find another one elsewhere lo.
Don't worry la bro, move on, take it a part and parcel of life. No need to look back and grief about it.
Most importantly, you come to SBF here is to enjoy and relax. Go FL section there and get few contacts. Bonk till you satisfied then forget the whole thing and start looking for jobs. GOOD LUCK!!
In time to come, you will go back to thanks those buggers who bullied you, say you can never be so successful if they didn't first kick you out from there ... WUAHAHAHA

I feel sorry for you Bro.
You should have taken action. Since you say they steal your ideas on projects..
You got hired as a senior role. That means you got liao (substance) and thats why they hired you yes?
You must have the balls to tell your boss with specifics what is going on...
You missed your chance. Nevermind, learn this life lesson.
Office politics is everywhere. You cant hide from it and neither can you run from it. Best to face it head on.
Dont be stupid and think like what ? Some Chinese Movie ah?
WAKE UP BRO ! NO SUCH THING like movies where the good guy good intentions will be known. Go suck eggs la...
If thats the case, we no longer have govt people sucking million dollars of salaries and yet still want to demand for pension and cpf. Thats life. Learn it and use it.
Be a bastard if you need to survive office politics. But dont fuck other people for no reason. Just BITE back HARD and DEEP when others try to whack you.
If your opponent is lady so what? No face giving. Just whack - after all you done nothing wrong except to defend yourself and your reputation.
Hi All bruddles,
Appreciate your opinion and comments.
I understand that life go on. Anyway I already terminated and cannot do much. However, just feeling so depressed that the rights always cannot win the evil. I lose out due to I does not commit to the bad side.
After hearing , most bros here say either quit or confront them. In my view, both will land you losing your job. Am I right?
And have any bros here have change the situation into their favour, please share some tips and example. Xie Xie

Not really will lose your job la.
Got confrontation before and it work out pretty well. Actually it is all depends on your boss. The last time a bitch was giving me hard time. I escalated it to my boss, being reasonable boss, he understand my situation and became the mediator for both of us. Worked out that she don't like my styles of working, which to me, I didn't realize it affect her so much. Not until we sit down to talk it out.
When you need to confront, please look at the matter in hand, not the person. This way, you should be able to tackle whatever problem objectively.
Once again, if your boss don't support you, no point then, better quit and find another better job.

thanks bro for your opinion,
I do agree that boss will be the important person that can stop the office politics. If boss is bo-chap character, that kills many good staff and good ideas. In end, good staff will either leave or gena "destroy" by the bad clan...heheh.. I ups your points....
Any bro whiich give good stories, I will up their points when i recover....pour in your stories with any nasty bitches or bastard in office...cheers.

TS,
i recommend a book for your reading for survival,
It is called the "Thick Skin, Black Heart". 黑厚学。
The author complies the essense of tactics used in Three Kingdoms.
Thick Skin refer to Liu Bei, Black Heart refer to Cao Cao.
Read with an open mind and practice it as a soft skill set.
Good luck.

Hmmm..
Just wanna share my story as well, When i got my first job working in HR Resource industry aka recruiters i worked very hard and monthly achieve a average sales about 10k - 13k for the company around 1 year. i believe i am slightly better than alot of average recruiters, however i made a grave mistake for not curry flavour my demanding FEMALE BOSS. thus one day
i happen to have a very small dispute with her and she immediate gave me a warning letter, i felt unreasonable thus i just walked out of her office without her permit.
2 Day later she terminated me under misconduct act.. disppointment and setup by accept
2 months later i received news from my colleagues she was terminated by my BIG Boss due to not achieving the sales target by the management
I guess what goes around come around....

This makes me remember what happened to me when i just graduate and step into my first job.
I was than deployed as Head of Ops in a catering company owned by my parents. No one knows that i was the son of the bosses and i was treated worst than a dog. Complaints of all sorts landed in the ears of my mum.
Everyone puts the blame on me whenever something screws up and i was sure that i was very nice to everyone . I admited to the senior staffs i have not much experience and hope that they could guide me along , instead they back stab me.
It was only after a year during company D&D that they finally found out i am actually the bosses son . Once again , i feel uneasy when they came to know as i was treated totally different.
It shows that Office Politics is happening everywhere, be it in a big , medium or small company .

Bro, don't worry la as the saying goes, if you are good enough any company also can find job (ok I anyhow hum tum one).
Anyway office politics is not limited to females or FTs. I also kana same shit before and my boss is an idiot, so after 6 months I show him my "love letter" and let him know how much I love him :)
He was shocked by my move and asked me why I quit la blah blah blah what can be done to improve the company la blah blah blah... yawn.. Tell you so many times you refuse to hear only I give you letter then you take notice no wonder the company will forever be small shit.
Anyway finding a good boss is hard no matter where you are in the world I don't believe SG is any better or worse then any other countries.
singmarine
10-12-2011, 03:13 AM
Yes...plenty of such stuffs around...the problem is FT always think they are more superior than S'poreans though they are working in SG. Malaysians always perceived S'poreans to be calculative, sly, dangerous, exploit....anyway these is what they are taught in their home country. Malaysians always think that no matter how lousy, filthy, smelly, corrupted country, still superior than SG.
Malaysians always come to SG with a sense of grudges and jealousy in their heart. They always openly declared that SG is a place to suck money and MY is a place to stay. They will never accept the tiny red dot can do much better than them.

Unfortunately, 60% of Singaporeans enjoy being second class citizens in their own country! The Opposition wanted to take back the country but their efforts were not appreciated!

Hi TS,
it is absolutely key that when you are being interviewed for a job, you also need to ask questions to access your boss. If you are stuck with a boss that is none-commital or lack courage to do the right thing, you are already stuck in a no-win situation from the get go.
(The above applies to you because you said you were hired for a senior position which indicates to me that you have above average capability and have choices. For those who are fresh, you will need to slam your head against the wall several times before you earn the necessary references and credentials)
However, if your boss is made of the right stuff, then the responsibility is on you to communicate issues you cannot resolve to him/her appropriately. For instance, ask questions such as:
- How do you think a person feel if he/she felt passed over repeatedly for a promotion?
- While I can understand why he/she can feel like that, what kind of message are we sending to the staff if we allow him/her to act inappropriately?
- Would anyone succeed in my position given the current set of circumstances?
Feel free to develop questions tailored to your own reality.
Last but not least, when your boss agrees that there is a problem, position appropriate solutions and options. Explain the pros and cons of each. The goal is for the boss to see you as a problem solver, not a complainer.
Confrontation rarely works well unless you are a master of your emotions. When things get heated, out of control emotions can destroy your credibility.
Remember, EQ trumps IQ in everyday work life.
Good luck!

Brother, you are too weak. Business is just like a war, if you are soft then it is a matter of time you will get chopped.
When people boycott you or show attitude strike back. Sometimes when you scold them or be rude to them, people will treat u nice instead.
Last time, i treat others nice, they took advantage of me so i throw my temper and be enemy with everyone. By doing so i prove my value.
In the end, those dog will crawl back and bark at you.
In the worst case, leave the job. At least you still left with pride.
If you cannot change yourself, change the environment. If i were you, i work for competitor and get rid of them. If you interested, you can PM me. I see your trade then maybe can advise you.
Be strong bro....

hey bro, appreciate you have post the link and search for it...hope your info can help those who is same position as me....good luck all...:D
Hi TS,
it is absolutely key that when you are being interviewed for a job, you also need to ask questions to access your boss.
For instance, ask questions such as:

well say bro, like what you have say, my boss is a not an WMBA (walking managing business admin), so he does not see the internal problems . He just believe and see the surface of the whole situation. What I would say I being new, so i already at the lose out. If my boss is so being reasonable and understanding, I would not being terminated. It really my luck to trust in the boss and company. Sad to say I really want to change the environment, however was sacrific in such an unhonour manner.
[QUOTE=dust;6654993]Hi bro,
The mastermind behind is an lady which is the longest staff in company. She has instruct the whole team (mostly Malaysia) not to update and share any info with me. So I cannot perform my job n duties properly.
---
u should walk right up to her, in front of everyone & fuck her upside down.
tell het don't play politics at her age as she die no one will pity her
Malaysian Chinese whether male or female are not simple pple. Sg is full of them and even govt ministries have them. Just be more ruthless than them.....

Let me pen my thoughts.
I used to work in a small company of only 10 person before I jumped ship to a MNC which has around 10k personnel. You can imagine the culture shock I received back then. All the things you see on tv serials about office politics actually happen in real life.
Being new to the company, I was like every new employee, eager to learn and work. That of course did not go well with those 'Lao Jiao' as they will see me either as a boot licker. Bad tales about me soon came and rumors of me soon arises and these people will distant themselves away from me. I came to know that there's this guy who would spread all the rumors about me to my fellow peers. That did not stop me. I told myself, the only way to beat these kind of people is to prove them wrong and work beyond the expectation.
That worked out for me and soon that person was found to be a lazy bastard who did nothing but to spread rumors to cover himself. He was terminated and I got my deserve recognition and promotion within a year into my job. Everyone took a respect to me.
You can't escape office politics, even the cleaning auntie also have office politics. The way to work around is to stand your ground and prove the detractors wrong. Of course, having an understanding boss is also a plus as he's the one who has direct authority over those detractors. If all these doesn't work out for you, it's time to search for greener pastures rather then suffer in silence.

hi bro luke,
thanks for your contribution to your story. I reckon that most bro here is lucky to have an reasonable boss. I was too bad that my boss is not. And I suspect that I was terminate also because of economic crisis due to salary. I drawn the highest pay in company, so boss want to stop bleeding in company point of view. Maybe my analysis is correct :(

yes...my boss is so undecisive...1 week before he has support for my plans, and i week later, he say he was not agree on what wwe discussed, n say we do not have any chemistry to continue working....wtffffff
I tend to agree with you that your ex-boss was a poor office manager cos hiring and terminating employees carries serious moral overtones that need to be addressed. Questions of personnel compatibility can become intertwined with questions of job suitability and there are gray areas where the motives of the old employees recommandation, complaints or suggestions of hiring / terminating another new staff are unclear. IMHO, your ex-boss properly caved in to group pressure and have decided to let you go for the morale of his company. Before terminating you, he should have pursued other methods of improving relationship between you and rest of old employees or have investigated the root of the conflicting personal issues. ;)
IK's office survival 101: Always trust your instinct and try your best to pick up subtle signals in the body language of your fellow colleagues (including your boss). Do not ever let your guards down just cos the colleague is a nice guy, SYT Chio Bu or a Come-Fuck-Me-Look MILF. Be wary of boot lickers - Keep them within boundaries but do not need to fear them. Always remember that you are in the job for work, you can't please everyone, and you can't make everyone like you. You work hard but don't get hard! ;)
