I’m trying to be a kay poh here….
I’m starting this thread to keep our cheongsters to Batam and the Riau Islands a periodic updates on events,developments,juicy news,gossips and any criminal activities here…
Ist development…..The authories here have approve on a bridge linking Batam island to Bintan.The bridge will be located at Punggor in Batam and will be linked to Uban in Bintan.The bridge is modelled like the one in Barelang.Work is expected to start in a couple of months and is expected to be completed in a year..(this is Indonesia…a year can mean 10 years..)
A man who changed his punctured tyres near Maxim discovered his money worth 4.5 juta missing after he checked his car….
A new massage parlour has opened up at pasar ole ole in Bintan…price RP 100k for an hour…

Try to take extra precaution when you are away from your country. Many unkown kind of accidents will happen, but first of all , not to act arrogant and show off of your "wealth" or your too enthusiastism at people country, this will invite unwanted incidents. Stay cool and with only your basics item.
Just heard another S'porean got mugged in Batam. Was report in AsiaOne news.............................................. ...........................

Got some latest news from my fren just come back from batam last weekend, they visit hollywood ktv joint on sat the okt quote quite high price ranging from 300-800k, my fren check with him why the price is so different compare to last time where all the gal are quote 220k without driver... the okt said some just break vigrin and some more chinese new year coming so they had up the price... can any senior cheongster vertify is true or the okt is trying to con my fren.. another fren get his gal from maxim the mamasam only quote him 220k without driver.... :)

To all bros, even Holiday inn is not safe especially the rooms at ground level. i was there in Jan 04 for some commissioning job. the yard put me in holiday inn and was alocated a room in the ground level. when i was sleeping the thief come into the room and saput all my things, luck i did not woke, the only thing they did not take is my PH which was charging in the bath room.
the management did not really take serious interest in this matter.even the GM is from singapore his name nick name is sun shine, what they did was brought me to lodge a police report, i was lucky to have the yard to nego for a letter to permit me leaving with passport, this cost them about sin $400.

How did they got into your room, didn't you lock it up when you were sleeeping?

That Dept also belongs to PEST, now he got coperate rate with most hotels. Even when I need to book rooms for my guest, I also asked him to help.

So sorry to heard about your loss. Anyway, in Batam, this is not a safe place like sillypore. How come the thief can go into your room? Forgot to lock it? Just hope u learn a lesson from this and it could sace your life in the future.

Regarding the bridge from Bintan to Batam, havent heard anything also. But what I heard is that the casinos may be shifted to the island of barelang. Dono which island, 2 or 3rd one. But I heard that a permit has been granted.
Some big shot in jakarta owns it.
Mandarin shifting the casino to behind, where the hotel 81 used to be. Kana bought over by mandrain.
Any more news?

A car accident happened two nights ago at the new Food court at Top 1,near Astro.It ended nearly in a fight....the two drivers were...Singaporean !!

Only agree with you partially. We often heard of unpleasant events or crimes at Batam. But over at the other 3 islands, crime quite rare.
I have the habit of going to the wartel late nite (Hotel rates bloody expensive) @2300-2330 at Balai, Batu or even TP and there were no stares or unpleasant happening. I dont feel uneasiness. :) But I cant said the same for Batam. Try walking alone along the streets at Batam...preferably nite time? You will know what I mean. :mad:

Fewer more nites ago before your 2 nites ago, a SinKarPoLian expat (driving without a license) reversed his car from a parking lot and stupidly hitting another car parking just next to it. At first it was a very soft bump, but that guy didn't "feel it" and kept reversing his car even faster and end up the bumper of that parked car almost got ripped off. Heard it cost S$1k+ to replace the bumper (with parking sensor type) :o

I too gain my info from experiences and I also heard from many cheongsters. FYI bro, I was robbed on my maiden trip to Riau (TP).
Newbies would definitely appreciate your advice. But to be honest, as long as you got the word 'newbie' written all over your face, it won't be safe on any foreign land unless you do your homework = digging up all important info on where you are planning to visit (Also not foolproof).
To avoid any misunderstanding, I'm not tryin to flame u or wat, but you just can't gauge simply by ur own experiences. I've known some who got into worse situations but prefer not to speak their mind. By askin you to create a poll instead of judging Batam based on your own experiences, you can get a better / clearer picture (Also, you can avoid any flame wars with Batam lovers). ;)
Maybe we can share more over a cup of kopi ? :D

Bro, I suppose we are in the same "boat". I was robbed too in Sekupang. Thats why we share different view/opinion on the location. There were a handful of bad encounters at B Ampar too but I think its better to keep it to myself less I frighten all the newbies and spoilt their mood.. Btw Batam is still a nice place to cheong.
No problem....one day we can meet at Batam, Balai or even TP.

A matter of safe or not safe is how you protect yourself and how you are being taken advantage of..
Walking at night in the street, I can say even SG there is a chance of being robbed loh..
I mean, this is common sense, you can walk in Batam also, at night time, but if in quite crowded places, and you don't look newbish.. people won't even be bothered with you.. if you are saying walking alone in the streets night time.. good luck, you will need it cuz you are not protecting yourself...

B Ampar is history already, so what's the point of mentioning it now. Looking at Batam Centre now, I wouldn't say it's 100% safe even though, but it's safe enough, as long as you know what you are doing.
Even in Balai, there are cases of cab drivers trying to push you onto cabs reminding me of a case l3atu was talking about, and that's in broad daylight. TP, reminds me of B Ampar though less vigorous, esp at the port but certainly worse off than Batam Centre now.
Besides, if you are going out of your own comfort zone, you have to take extra caution. That's a definite. Be alert, and know what you are doing. Be respectful without being fearful. I think that's common sense to have if you are going to anywhere outside SG, even places you don't know in SG.

I was robbed too in Sekupang.
Maybe what u should do is to find a feng sui master and read ur palm or calculate ur life? maybe just for u only batam feng sui is good.... batam is the first place i get my FOC bonk gal while walking along the street and met a gal outside a disco during the afternoon time (she is talking to her friend who is working in that pub..).. I gotten a FL in a disco.. she brought me to a jackpot shop (never bring me to a weird place and rob me).. we played jackpot (actually win money!!).. and after that gone back hotel.. bonk.. sleep till the next day(no one came knocking at my door and demand payment for bonking his wife).. i never ganna a single shit..
maybe i heng!!.. :)

Remember wat happened to the 2 lao jiaos ? Those hooligan drivers pretended to be Rainbow Hotel's driver and almost managed to cheat them of their $$$. If the same thing happens to newbies....they most prob wun knoe wat to do.... ;)

I agree. Common sense will tell us the risk are there. Not that I deliberately walk alone at lonely streets like hero. But so happened I had to past that street to reach the Wartel. There were some ojeks..but they dont bother or give you that kind of stares at Balai. I was merely comparing Batam and Balai, facing the same scenario, I would think the risk of being harrass or rob in Batam is greater. Anyway, its only my opinion.

B Ampar is history already, so what's the point of mentioning it now. Looking at Batam Centre now, I wouldn't say it's 100% safe even though, but it's safe enough, as long as you know what you are doing.
Of course present Batam Centre is much better and safer than former B Ampar. You dont see touts and holligans like they used to have at B Ampar. Actually I was referring to the town area where we encountered some unpleasant events. Not at B Ampar. My mistake.

Due to the job's requirement, I was in Batam last week. Yippie! Finally have chance to try some local ceweks in Batam!
I went to Batam with lots of fantasy on my way to Batam on the ferry.

1st night, I went to Novotel and can't locate Hotel Harmoni, ended up in Pacific!. Oh yeah, babe!
Guess what? I think I was the 1st customer that went into the disco. OMG....
Sitting there waiting the whole disco started for about 1 hour, then the whole disco started to heat up.
Finally, after 2 hours of waiting, and after I changed my sit to more to the rear, some ceweks came and asked for "business".
Didn't care for the first few until there is a petite and very beautiful girl dancing in front of my eyesight. Then their so called mummy came and asked whether I interested in any of the girl. I was not interested until she introduced the girl I noticed. As a newbie, I must say, must really do a lot a lot of homeworks. First thing I failed in bargaining. Price was 300,000 rp maybe because I didn't know the market price. Secondly, I paid the "mummy" on the spot with 20,000 tips when she asked. Together with the girl left the disco headed back to hotel. On the way back, bought 2 boxes of condoms with 40,000 rp.
Happily went back to hotel, asked the girl to shower first and got ready to fire off!
Girl finished showering and my long waited moment arrived! But I talked to the girl nicely to extend few more times and she said I can just offer. Well, the discussion went well.
Just before I start action, during our conversation, she asked whether the "mummy" has mentioned about her or not. I said not. The she told me she is a "pondan" OMG.......... :(
That time I was shocked and i suspected "she" cheated me. She pull down her dress and I really saw a guy's nipple! OMG !!!! I am not gay. Till the end I have no choice but let him go. Asked him to message his so called beautiful angel also he cheated me by pressing wrong no. using my hp! Message went through for 3rd try but I think that is already a set up. The thing is to reduce the loss by asking him to leave.
So, all the newbie please have someone to guide along for the chionging activities in Btm. Get a ONS by paying money to these ceweks i think is immoral. I did try twice (once in Hotel Harmony & Planet Holidays and second back to pacific again) but no catch. And maybe because of the incident, I think I can be a MONK NOW! Very sad. Totally turn off, and a nightmare. But I swear he really looks beautiful and not like those aqua from Thailand. Really beautiful in petite size! So, be careful.
And one more thing, they are very smart. Deliberately eat some smelly stuffs, I think is called "petai" (chinese is like "smelly bean", direct translation) before the start of business to let customer to fell turn off and get a very fast and real FAST CASH.

One simple way is to go to KTV joints around 1-2pm SGT to choose lah.. Shouldn't cost much more than what you paid over in Pacific though some places are upping their prices a lot due to CNY etc etc..
Some places are like Jungle Minda, Permata Indah, Hollywood, Maxim, Titanic, Brittanic, Dynasty, 8933 etc etc..
There are so much more there... any taxi drivers know how to go there.. hehehe, over these places, unless you specifically ask for ben chongs, you definitely get ceweks..

I know what you are talking abt. Saturaday at 3 pm, all the casinos are "forced" to close. Some big shot came down from Jakarta. Of course, yesterday rurmoured to be opened at 3 pm again. But not too sure. Many of my friends who come here to gamble are disappointed.

A local journalist claims that fights take place almost every month but the scale is not comparable to last Friday's one.
The reason of the fight is due to the failure to arrive a peace negotiation between the Heads of the 2 triads, pertaining to their share of 'protection money' from those casinos.
Hence, the authority have to shut down the operations of the casinos to ensure the safe interests of the punters, esp. those from Sg.
The casinos has been re-opened on Sunday nite.

GAMBLERS planning to try their luck this Chinese New Year will have to scratch Batam off their wish list.

The authorities there have ordered gaming houses on the island, some of which operate as casinos, to stay closed until Friday, when a decision will be made on whether to reopen them.
When contacted by The Straits Times yesterday, Batam police chief Andayono said he was acting on instructions from 'higher authorities' in Jakarta.
The clampdown has been in force since the weekend. Police have already raided one casino located near the Holiday Inn Hotel and are investigating the case as illegal gambling.
Under Indonesian law, gambling is prohibited and casinos are not authorised, said Batam Industrial Development Authority's senior official, Mr John Arizal, yesterday.
It is understood that Batam local authorities issue entertainment licences that allow items like jackpot machines, but some of these 'gaming houses' breach the regulations by offering casino games like blackjack, baccarat and roulette.
There are at least four such outlets in Batam - one near the Holiday Inn at Waterfront City, another at Nongsa about an hour's drive away in the north and two others in Nagoya Town in the centre of the island.
It is estimated that up to 3,000 patrons flock to these places on weekdays and at least a thousand more on weekends.
A recent Straits Times check of one casino near Waterfront City showed it is well-organised and well-patronised, mostly by middle-aged Singaporeans, who are ferried there from the pier.
Patrons must submit either their passport or identity card before they are allowed in.
Saturday's shutdown was not linked to a brawl that took place at the Ozone Theatre discotheque near Planet Holiday Hotel a day earlier.
It is understood the incident was sparked off when a security supervisor was punched by an outsider.
Batam police said that three people were arrested but no one was injured and no Singaporeans were involved.

Batam still "sleeping mode". Alot of shops are not open yet as I write now. Maybe they maybe open later. Most of the ones that open are the makan ones.
As for the casinos.... Still no word yet. Heard that the casinos will take a longer time, until the "heads meeting". May take some time. Once I got info, I will post the news.

Not too sure about the Bintan gals yet. But there are threads where they are being described. as for Batam gals, I usually find them at massage parlours. Afterall, I like a HJ, or BJ, or FJ after a good massage. Just a personal preference. As for the gals picked up from disco or FL, in the streets, they usually like to get over the job and go, unless you book them for the day. Also, you need to buy them food and cigrettes and so on. And the hotels as well.
I have been to Bintan only 3 times and return on that day also, never to stay in the hotels yet before, all business trips. It is about 1/2 hour to the port, and weather is hotter than Batam.
Overall, things here are much cheaper and the gals are nice. Be nice to them and they will be nice to you too. End of the day, it is the $$$ that counts.

In Batam...if you can speak fluent Indonesian...you get away with things...if you look "touristy" and try to speak Indonesian...you may get slaughtered...without knowing it...
If you have good Indonesian friends...and you don't speak Indonesian...can still get away with things...
So best when you go with Cheongsters whom speak Indonesian well...

Tai lau Hor lagi enak selaki dong. tapi Kemalrin Dnat lepas pesawat leh. Di GL 10. Sampai gua minium byk selaki. Tunggu sampai jam 3 juga ngak datang!!! :p
lepas pesawat pun ada no flight ama timing nya. ini DNAT mungkin lepas rocket la!! anytime bisa terbang punya... :D
