Went to Myanmar - Yangon for some work last month and since I have seen nothing on this beautiful city on this site yet, I have decided to come out with a new thread. As I have yet to cheong overseas (except m'sia) before, my views may be biased or not very accurate. Please forgive me if thats the case.

I stayed in Yangon for around 1 month and had my fair share of cheonging. I will try as much as possible to organise my post into different sections for easy reading.

Getting there:
Myanmar is currently under military ruling. Visa is needed in order to visit the country. Only silkair provides flights there.

Currency:
Only accepts USD for changing into their currency known as kyats (shortform ks). Exchange rate is around 1USD - 900ks which translates to around 1SGD - 500ks. The banks there are very particular about US currency so only bring brand new notes with no tears and markings. Notes with serial number beggining with "CB" will bring you lower exchange as there has been circulation of fake USD with those serials.

Locations:
The cheonging locations are generally 'disco-cum-ktv'. Operating from around 8pm - 1am. Therefore, there is a need to pay a cover charge to enter the premises. The price per person is around 2000 - 3000ks (around 5SGD) and the first drink (beer/soft drinks) will be free. Prices for second drinks range greatly depending on the place you go to but should not exceed 2000ks for a can of beer. A variety of entertainment is usually provided throughout the night such as singing, disco, dancers, ah gua shows. Fashion shows are almost SOP at all the locations I have visited.

KTV rooms have varying prices and if you get one, you can get all the ladies to parade in your room and then you choose.

Ladies:
Almost all the ladies in such places are WL except the waitresses, models and dancers. However, some of the models also does 'part time' but are generally more expensive. The WLs only provide overnight services and the average and most common price is 15000ks (27SGD) for unlimited shots, excluding accomadation. Models will mostly ask for almost double of the average price. Services varies depending on different ladies cos there is no SOP there.

To get a lady, simply ask the waiter to get the lady of your choice to come and sit with you. After that you can negotiate the price and chit chat. Can do some light hanky panky also. If you realise she's not what you like, just politely ask her to leave (no payment required but tips are appreciated)

Places I have recommend:
==Asia plaza==
Have the best looking models as far as I'm concerned. WLs are so-so and tends to overquote prices. Atmosphere is not bad.

==Emperor==
The place I visit the most as my colleague likes that place. Ok place with some good lookers. No overquoting for all my visits. Only problem is that it is quite dark so have to wait for the fashion show to start to get to see the ladies clearly if they are not sitting with you.

==Palace==
A smaller place but cheap drinks. Only visited once but not a bad experience.

Some tips:
- Go early if you want more choice as the better ladies may have been chosen by others and left if you go late.
- Pay after the job. The earliest time they should leave is 6am.
- Get you condoms ready. Buying at the disco entrance is much more expensive and the quality of the condoms are :confused: .
- Keep your valuables and cash locked up in the hotel. Need to elaborate? LOL
- Give tips if satisfied. They will generally ask for taxi money which is basically tips in the morning. Its peanuts to us but means alot to them.
- If you want to have a model, ask the waiter to avoid embarassment. Only some of the models are WLs but the waiter will know if they are or not.

And what about safety in the street for tourists ? - I have tried walking around in the city area before midnight and it was fine. If you look asian they would probably take you as a burmese unless you dress very spectecularly.

Easiest way, is to take a flight from Singapore to Bangkok, then from Bangkok to Chiangrai, then from Chiangrai Airport, get a taxi to Maesai(border town with Myanmar). From Maesai, you cross over into Myanmar (Tachileik) and infd them you wanna go to Keng Tung. After which, the "friendly" immigration will assist you to find transport to go there.

Your passport will be kept by the immigration in exchange for a piece of Pink Colour Card. You will also be issued a piece of larger than A4 paper which will state your destination, just in case you detour to somewhere you are not supposed to go. You will be needing 3 photos (passport size) as well for the Pink Card, etc.

There is no cellular reception about 10km-20km into Myanmar. Needless to say, Keng Tung is about 100-150km away so of course no reception. You can hold on to your mobile, no need to surrender. But it will be useless for calls in Keng Tung.

You can stay there legally for 14 days. Can extend but must come back to immigration... not worth the trouble if you ask me.

Restrictions? Do as you would in a military camp. :D

Forgot to add one thing, the cost.... the price of the air tix, if u can get the promo fare, Sing to Bkk (S$100 return), Bkk to Chiangrai(S$80 return), Cab fare(S$50 return) to Maesai, Cab fare(S$100 return) to Kengtung. Not very sure on the last one though. But bear in mind you have to change FECs when you go to Keng Tung. Its part of the Myanmar tourism regulation. On paper, all foreigners visiting on social VISA have to change US$200 worth of it. I was lucky, i managed to get through with changing only US$25 worth of FECs.

The flesh market in Yangon is at Music Club located in Grand Plaza Parkroyal (formerly sofitel)

There are probably 150 FL girls there. All can take away price between US$30-50 (short time or overnight depends on how much the girl like u and how well u negotiate)

I took a girl there for US$40 short time but my friend got overnight for same price.

Just my own estimate... could be more than that, or less.

You can try calling the village fone but that may or may not work as I understand those lines are domestic(Internal Myanmar). Dunno whether can call in from outside.

Have you arranged with her? Maybe you can get her to come down to the border Tachiliek to pick you up.

Its not a very HUGE area, but like a small city consisting of a few main areas. Do you have her home town's name or address? Photo? That'd help a lot...

Remember the last time I was in Yangon for a holiday a few years ago. We had to change money to the local currency. Our tour guide advised to change only a minimum at the official exchange center and then change the rest with her, The difference is incredible. By a few hundred percent! Seems the black market rate for Sing $ is very strong.

Not sure if it still applies now, tho. If yes, consider it.

Yes, the official rate is always US$1 = 7 kyats. On the same day in the black market it can fluctuate a few times and within the range of 980 kyats to 1,000 kyats. But visitors will still need (and it will be useful) US$ because hotels will accept this currency only. Last year, when I was there, they could not accept credit card because the US-based companies like Visa, Mastercard, Amex, froze their arrangements because of the human-right infringements there. I wonder if this has been lifted. Anyone know?

The best massage joint I know of is at Olympic hotel. 1 session 45mins for 2500kyats (around 5SGD). "room" charge is 1000kyats (2SGD). I suggest going for 2 sessions.

There also a hair salon which is very good called May Eleven. I can't remember the street name already. Something like Wajan Street. 2500kyats for 1 hour hair wash. Includes washing face and upper body "massage". Free drinks and the ladies almost all can speak mandarin and will TCSS with you. The place I most enjoy going to in Yangon...

Take note all the above no hanky panky allowed.

You have been seriously overcharged. 15000kyats (around 27SGD) is the average rate for overnight. Condoms are not expensive depending on where you get them. Go look for those 'pharmacies' (which will look more like chinese medicine halls) and buy there. packet of 3 costs around 200kyats (40cents?) only.

The price of USD to kyats have dropped. 1USD now gives you max of around 930kyats. I have not been able to use any credit cards there except at the silkair office in Yangon. Even hotels don't accept credit cards so please bring more USD or you will end up stuck there with no money. As for FECs, they still can be used but I don't think there is a requirement to change anymore

was in Yangon last year for 5 straight months. must admit that the music club in Grand Plaza is the hottest fresh market in town. Another one was in Sedona but heard it lost it's attraction due to some cases there. Almost all the top grade chicks can be found there. Average 80 girls per night. Damage around USD 50 to USD 80. Times are bad that they are practicising buy 1 get 1 free to cover their entrance fees to the club.

BME I and BME II are two other places you can go hunting, girls there average. JJ entertainment 1 grade lower down the rank, if i may say so. Damage can be from USD 20 to USD 50.

Bros can wait outside a bus stop outside Traders Hotel. Some time can get kampung chicks looking for extra cash due to hardship back at their province. These are hit and run, come in the morning and goes back before night fall. They will tell their parents that they come city to find jobs and use the time to earn money. Generally dark in complexion for obvious reason. Don't know the price cos never try before, but heard from a old bird there say 10,000 kyats (about USD 10) can already.

Hi, I'm a regular visitor to Myanmar for work and play. The girl friendly hotels in Yangon that I know of are Panaroma Hotel, Traders Hotel, Olympic Hotel and Thamada Hotel.

You can get some nice working girls at The Palace and Emperor on Shwedagon Pagoda Rd (between Anawratha St and Mahabandoola St) for about 20,000 ks LT (overnight) or JJ's or Channel V at Mingala Zei for about the same price. If you want upmarket girls, then try Pioneer Club at Yuzana Garden Hotel or Asia Plaza basement. One thing about Yangon is that you won't have any troubles finding girls however many of them are stgill quite conservative and will only screw and nothing more, although I had been lucky in getting two girls willing to provide BBBJ. :)

You can fly to Chiang Rai, From there took a Taxi to MaeSai and only cost you around 700 bath for the Taxi.

From MaeSai u can cross over to Tachiliek and u r in Myanmar. From there, you can get taxi, bus or fly to Khiang Tong from there.

Ok, here's some up to date info.

Current exchage rate is US$1 = Kyats 1355

Almost all the hotels are girl friendly. The girl will automatically go to the reception and show/surrender her identity card. You may be charged an additional fee by the hotel, this varies.

Top Class places are:-
1) Music Club (basement of Park Royal Plaza Hotel)
2) BME 2
3) BME 1
4) JJ's
5) Palace
6) Emperor
7) Paddy O'Malleys (Sedona Hotel)

There are a limited number of girls at Paddy's, all the others will have 30-150 girls.

"Beauty Salons" are hit or miss, about 20% of them provide extra services, if you don't speak Burmese you could just end up getting your hair washed and that's it.

I shall go thru some of the areas which i have experienced. Experienced bros in myanmar, do give me your pointers. These are just my 2 cents worth

Airlines From Singapore
There are basically 3 airlines serving Yangon from Singapore, namely Silkair, Myanmar Airways international (MAI) and Jetstar. Sounds wonderful huh? But in actual fact, MAI codeshare with jetstar. MAI lost all its airplanes after US placed economic sanctions on the country. The way it works is quite weird. half the plane goes to passangers of MAI while other half goes to passangers of Jetstar. What's most interesting is that Air Stewardess and Air Steward from both airlines are on the same plane, and best of all, they serve drinks and meals free. YES!! Budget airlines serving meals free. First time on jetstar huh? heheh But the flight is full most of the time, so bros who are thinking of going, do book early. For bros who are big size like me, MAI and Jetstar not advisable, as seats are damm crammed when full.

Currency
Both USD and Singapore Dollars can be brought in to change at the black market there. Black market gives a much better rate. but from personal experience, its better to bring USD. Normally, tourists changed USD to their local mynamar currency known as Ks (prounced similar to CHAT). The early this week is US$1 = 1100Ks while SGD$1 = 820Ks. The biggest note there is 1000ks and the size of the older 1000ks is quite big. On the way to the hotel, i asked the hotel driver to bring me to change money and i wanted to change SGD$500. Damm, the pretty lady driver came out with stacks of notes.. hahahah. for USD, its advisable to bring some small notes while the rest in big notes as it brings better exchange rates. Old and torn notes are not accepted there.

Airport
The Yangon international airport is not bad. Quite new. When my flight arrived after 3 hours, there were mainly 2 main queues at the immigration, Locals and Foreigners. Then i realised that there were only 5 foreigners among the 180 people on board. I cleared immigration in less than 5 mins. First lady immigration officer will check the passport while the 2nd lady immigration officer will double check all details on your passport and stamp next to the VISA. All Singaporeans and foreigners require a VISA to enter Myanmar. The immigration is a labour intensive process.. hehehe As we were told to declare all electronics at custom, i declared my digital camera at customs, but the officer also don't care, just ask me to go go.

Autoroaming
Forget about it. I think its the only country in the whole world that didn't sign any autoroaming contracts with overseas parties. All singapore phones cannot be used. if you want to rent satalie phones, u need a permit from Myanmar government, which the chances of getting this permit is near to ZERO. Depend on the hotel phone only. 1 min phone call back to Singapore cost USD$3.11. They start charging after 3 rings.

Internet
Limited access for internet and also damm slow. Yahoo and Hotmail all cannot use. But can access to Gmail.

Hotel
I stayed at Parkroyal. quite alright. The best part is parkroyal has a Disco and its filled with lots of WL every night. My room at parkroyal is US$60 a night. There's satelite TV channels like CNN etc. So at least can kill time watching TV sometimes.

The Disco starts operation from 7pm daily, and gals start flowing in at around 730pm. Don't go in too early as all gals will flock to u, and its really sian. Go in by around 830pm or 9pm, where the music starts and action starts. ST is US$50 while overnight is US$70. Gals are plentiful, all races. Most have small neh neh and are quite tanned.

Time
Time in Myanmar is 1 1/2 hrs behind Singapore

Taxis
Public taxis are damm old cars without aircon. Can u imagine riding in a local taxi in the afternoon when temperature is nearly 40 degrees celcius? No air con somemore. Hotel transport at US$25 per hour, but got aircon. But all cars there damm old, either around 20 years old or above. Feels like Singapore in 1970s.

hope that bros who have not visit yangon can have some idea of that place. Just my 2 cents worth ;)

1. No FEC is required when arriving at Yangon Intl Airport.
2. No credit cards, travellers cheque or other forms of currency accepted except USD. In certain cases, SGD, YEN and EURO accepted but you must know where to change.
3. DO NOT Change from bank as rates are low. Change from hotel or blackmarket.
4. Can;t answer about CHEONG, but msot of the bro says is quite accurate already, so no need to add.
5. DO NOT talk about political, or risk being caught.
6. DO NOT act rich over there or have lavish lifestyle. YOU WILL GET ROB.

Me have to make regular working visits to Myanmar.. one year 4-6 times.

At the moment its still tough for biz..maybe 2 more years before they really open up. Luckily at the moment, gals still cheapie and freshie :D

JJ very well known.. any cab or your local guide can bring u there.

Take note.. latest KS = USD exchange rate is USD1 = 1030 KS. So, negotiate to pay in USD more worth it. Going rate in JJ now is USD30-USD40 LT

I recommend the following:

1) When u reach JJ, if u look Chinese, there will be a Mandarin speaking captain that will bring u into the disco. Be friendly to him.. he is very useful.
2) In JJ disco, sit in the center, just in front of the stage. this is the best spot.
3) Cast your net far and wide, this is when u use the captain. Point any gal and ask him to bring her over. If not to your liking, send them away with no cost.
4) If u like, you can get several gals to sit with you until u leave. The one u tapao, pay her tomorrow morning. The ones u didnt pick, just tip USD1-USD5. Sufficient for their taxi fare home.
5) remember to tip the captain USD1-USD2 also.

Ya you are right there isn't much here not because its near to the military place but rather it is still very new here. I just pass by one hotel forgotten to see the name of it. According to my customer there is a KTV there and its always pack because all the big goes there. Guess will have to wait for another few more years for it to develop here in Naypidaw. Heading back to Yangon tomorrow can't wait. Well the good news is in Naypidaw there is not restriction to accessing to Sammyboy or other porn sites and most hotel if not all offer free internet access.

After our drinks ask if she is interested to follow me to the hotel and she agree so ask her how much and she quoted me USD50 ST :eek: I was like WTF now so ex meh and decided to let her go and just tip her. I remember the other time I was quoted USD 30 for ST just a few months ago. Didn't know there was a price increase. Anyway treat it as I saved money :)
