Fellow Singaporeans, Beware of such scam calls!!!

Few days ago, i got a scam call. Please let ur father, mother, aunty, uncle or who ever know. dont kena tricked into such ongoing phone scams.

Below is the detailed conversation. The conversation was in mandarin but for the sake of everyone, i've translated it into english.

Scamer: Hello, We are calling from 万辉餐饮有限公司. Congrats you are our lucky winner. You have won HKD 1.08 Million which is about sgd 180k.
Me: ( thinking to myself, ya la scam.. but hear more to see what they want )
Scamer: We would like to ask you afew questions as survey.
Me: ok ask lor.
Scamer: What is your name?
Me: Tan Gu Gu ( Wait long long)
Scamer: Do you prefer chinese food or western food?
Me: Chinese food
Scamer: Do you like the food spicy or non-spicy?
Me: Anything also can la
Scamer: Ok good, can you tell me singaporeans like what kind of flavor?
Me: what also eat. as long as delicious
Scamer: Ok we have finish the survey. Why do you not sound excited about winning so much money?
Me: This kind of things too good to be true. So i dont expect anything from it.
Scamer: We assure you that our company is legal and is a big company. We are not like others who are out to cheat people.
Me: ok la. Anything else?
Scamer: We will now update your status with our finance dept and will call you again.
Me: ok bye.
Scamer: Good bye and have a nice day.

2 days pass...

Scamer called again but now by another person.

Scamer2: Hello, Tan Gu Gu. We are calling from xxxxxx, do you still remember talking to our surveryor the other day?
Me: Yes. why?
Scamer2: Gong Xi Ni. We have confirm your winnings and did you happen to watch ATV on 4th Dec 2012 4-6pm. Our company event and that your name and number was picked up by computer generated for those who completed the survey.
Me: Yah i got watch and i saw my name appear. I was waiting for you to call me.
Scamer2: (paused for awhile)
Me: haha no lah i joking only.
Scamer2: Today we need you to provide your full name, IC number or Passport no. and your bank account so that we can transfer the HKD1.08 Million to you.
Me: oh okay. my name tan gu gu.
Scamer2: your age?
Me: 34 ( head counting 2012 - 1978 = 34 )
Scamer2: Ok Mr tan, your IC or passport no.
Me: IC number : S7878678U
Scamer2: wow your ic number got 6 7 8 all the lucky number. you must be a very lucky person. May i know what are you doing? employed or doing business?
Me: oh i do my own business selling bra n panties
Scamer2: knowing how to earn $ from female apparel is very good as females like to shop alot. you are young and accomplished. you are a very lucky person because you have won our 3rd prize too. HKD 1.08 milliong
Me: yah i think i am lucky too cos you called.
Scamer2: ok now we need your bank account, any account will do because we will transfer the money to you and u will received it earliest by mon or tuesday.
Me: ok la. my bank is POSB 891-314-678
Scamer2: wow 678 again. Your bank account and your ic also quite similar. You sure is a lucky guy.
Me: I think so too. ( of cos la only PRC dont knw suchs codings )
Scamer2: Ok now i have your details. i will submit to the fund manager and she will call you back to confirm the details. By the way, my name is zhou wen hui. Thank you for your time.
Me: ok

1 hr later...

Scamer3: Hi mr tan. This is fund manager of xxxxxx company. Now i like to verify your id with you..
Me: okay.
....
....
...
...
..
Scamer3: Ok we will submit your details and have your money transfered to you the next business day. Thank you.
Me: ok bye bye

the next day... phone rings again.. same number. i knw this would be the end part.

Scamer4: Hello Mr Tan,
Me: Hello. who are you?
Scamer4: i am from the legal department of xxxxxx company. Today i am going to tell you. HK and Sg r very lawful country and that your prize of 1.08million needs to be placed under insurance and escrow service to prevent money laundering.
Me: oh. Then what am i suppose to do?
Scamer4: You will need to pay for insurance which is 2.4% of the total amount which is SGD4250 before we can proceed to transfer the money to you.
Me: Wa need to pay money ah.
Scamer4: The money can be refunded to you once the transfer is over. it is just an escrow service fee.
Me: oh like that ah. but i still dont feel safe leh. I tell you what, u pay for the insurance. when the $ in. i pay u double ok?
Scamer4: it is against our company policy to do that. We cannot help you.
Me: oh. then no choice lor.
Scamer4: why you dont sound worried about your prize money? it is HKD 1.08million.
Me: i told you before, have then have. no then never mind and im not desperate for it.
Scamer4: but our company choose you as the prize winner.. So are you saying you do not want the prize?
Me: ok lah i tell you what. tell your company i said the prize money can go to you and thank you for wasting your time on me, i am just too free to entertain your call because from the start i know this is a fake call. Want to cheat people try better ways. Dont think we sg ppl stupid to fall for such scams..
After hearing that, The scamer4 hung up the call.

Those who believed that they are lucky must also believe that the caller has no family member or friends to share this big win. They have to give this big prize to YOU ,a complete stranger. If you are the caller will you do that ? :confused:

I think the moment they sense something is wrong, they will hang up the call. Didn't get to hear them scold me.

Read from paper few months ago.
Something like this;

............ask to check bank account, prize money already transfered to "victim" account. Begged "victim" to transfer admin charges fast, if not co. will fire her for not following procedure. She claimed that she made a mistake by transfering prize money b4 receiving the admin charges.

"Victim" checked account online...true prize money appeared. Very happy, this is for real !
Victim delayed transfering the money, few hours later check again prize money gone.

Prize was only "onhold".

So don't be too clever and transfer money to them.
(Some ppl will say u transfer the money to me first ,I'll transfer admin charges.)

Same as bro Zeroage, encounter similar calls a number of times over the months-on my mobile, home (even unlisted number they somehow managed to get although i've never used that number in any contests)....calls came from Malaysia (at least the gals sounded like malaysian chinese) & PRCs. really sweet talkers but if its too good to be true, its probably too good to be true. i even told a couple of them to just deduct the 'legal' fees from my prize money but they probably knew the game was up & the they hang up....

My DIL works in Singtel. She confirmed it is possible. You need to lodge a police report before they retrieve the recordings.

mine was slightly different..

1. a lady (with PRC accent) called and says becos of GSS, i have been entered into a lucky draw in KL .. (i was like... KNN, wat does GSS have to do with KL)
2. a few days later, she called me again and asked if I was in KL for the event and lucky draw.. best thing is the background noise is loud/noisy.. machiam like a real event !!
3. same day, a few minutes later, she called me and told me I have won 2nd prize !!! ... she will call me again to get more details to remit money to me..
4. a few days later, she called and asked for my bank details..

while just giving bank account number will not allow her to get my money (i think).. i'm glad i did not as recently there had been cases of scam wrt to incoming funds... anyway, should have talked dirty to her and have phone sex... hahahah.. :D

I was shocked....yes wtf ! sound like my daughter crying.
Did not know how to react, so kept quiet and listen...
I begin to think....this morning I sent her to school, no school outing today...
I started to calm down and realised that she is not my daughter. This crying girl is about 4-6 yrs old.
A big relief.

I said to her loudly,"stop crying and tell me who you are ?"
I repeated three times and the line was cut.

Yes they can trace but its just like people buying registered sim cards, they also will cover their ass and usually those kena caught are scapegoats. This incident reminds me of the Nigerian scam I received from email years ago... It is about winning lottery and asking me to claim the prize too. However, I have never traveled to Africa before, therefore impossible to obtain any lottery ticket from there.

In the email it stated an upfront fee to be paid for the prize money to be released. I deleted the email without second thoughts. Hats off to these scammers who can think of such ridiculous stories in attempt to cheat money from people...

There was a newspaper report dat the M'sian Police arrested a group of PRC people based in M'sia phoning up potential victims.

I used to receive such calls. I had given my hp no. to a few PRC FLs in Geylang whom I had messed with. I suspect these PRC FLs had sold my hp no. to scammers in PRC when they returned to PRC.

Great sharing here.let me do my part. This is not a scam but an advertising tactic ever since the implementation of the lemon law.
One evening, my mom received a call from an unknown number. She was busy with cooking and asked me to pick up. The person introduced himself as calling from some property developer and my mom has been selected as a VVIP to view a showroom. By the way, we are not a well to do family and even if we had got the money, I think this VVIP nonsense is really lame.
So I decided to play along with him. I made myself sound very excited and asked him about the date and timing to be present and the location. The person very smart as well; mention about a showroom in lakeside area (I stay west). So I asked, " since we are VVIP, are there any limousine to transport us there?" The person said ' no', I said " but we are VVIP. I feel that the service could have been better. I don't have anything against you, and I am not making any complaint, but may I speak with your director directly to ask for limousine service?" I think he became speechless and said " sir, I will get back to you in a short while as my supervisor is not around".
The whole conversation was fun and make my day.

Singtel is part of NSA giant spying network and will not be surprised to know all in/out bound calls are recorded. Time to change the PAP gov who feel its ok to violate our privacy in the name of national security.

I have my fair share of such calls, many times, many different callers.

I have restort to one tactic that works everytime.

TALK TO THEM IN INDO, THAI, HOKKIEN, TEOCHEW, CANTO, or TAMIL, if you know. They will hang up very fast

You can instantly recognise their accent from PRC. Just go hello, hello, and see how they react, when you are answering unknown phone numbers.

I had once rejecting such calls from these people and she called back to fuck me. Hang up..Usually, don't need to entertain such people. Just hang up on them. Unless you are too free with nothing to do.

Talk sex with them? That is nice. but probably they would hang up on you after a while.

If you really power, try con them back, telling her that you love her, and ask her to come over. You are a millionaire and want to marry her. :D

I got this call from a heartless singaporean male who claimed to be an insurance agent from great eastern.

My mum passed away, so we advertised her death in the Obituary.
Then on the 1st day of the wake, this arsehole called to say that my mum has 280K insurance and im the beneficiary, i asked for his name, and his office unit number and told him i can go to his office after the mourning period is over but he insist on coming down below my block to pass the cheque, and that i need to pay some processing fee.
Somehow, it smells fishy, and i also cant think right, as it is my mum's death, so i called Great Eastern and found out that the unit mentioned dont exist, even the floor dont exist. I then understood there & then that it is a scam.
Few of my good buddies was around at the wake, i told them about this scammer that is about to come here, they decided to whack him and pass him to the police, dont know why, he did not come.
Few months later, i read in the newspaper that he was caught and some families was actually scammed from the same modus operandi, scamming someone during the death of their loved one.
So take note ppl, there are some arseholes who will want to make fortunes out of your misfortunes.
