A short encounter with an Upskirt pervert. What could/should have done? Opinions?
Its 3.30pm, with the mid-afternoon sun shinning brightly onto one side of the train. The train surprisingly empty considering it is Singapore. And most alternate seats bare and not taken. I chose a seat to ensure ample space was available to me, where seats to my left and right were not taken. The songs of my ipod playing through my earphones. It was a really hot day, so my sunglasses were still on.
Few stops went by, thankfully, no one came to sit to my left or right. But as the train packed in and filled up. Now I had a middle aged lady to my right and a middle aged man on my right. And to the row infront of me, 3 secondary school girls took their seats.
It didn't occur to me right away that this man to my left would be doing something fishy. But his body language was uncomfortable and sneaky at the same time. So I managed to sneak a view of this Iphone and to my shock his camera was recording the 3 girls infront of us, focusing mostly on the skirt and leg area. I was a little stunned that someone would want to do this openly. This man probably did not take notice of me as I would be quite hard to read with my sunglasses on.
But he soon took notice that I could have probably caught him in the act and he quickly closed the camera function and began acting like he was using his phone for other uses. I really doubt so though. He had his phone positioned in a way that the girls were still in view of his camera, and I suspected he was then running one of those "secret camera" apps. I mean come on. Isnt this is plain retarded and a little sick? These are young girls for god's sake and we are in public. Are you asking to get caught? Whats the point of getting cheap thrills off of this?
I eye-balled him up and down. And he knew full well that I knew by then. I was hoping he would keep his phone in his pocket at least. But he continued using it as if nothing happened. And it really did seem that the camera was still running.
If I was a very free man, I would have called security. But I was carry a lot of stuff and making a scene was the last thing I wanted to do too. If anything were to happen, I would have to be the "witness". Dealing with cops and all that? Fuck no.
So, if me staring daggers into his face didnt work. I did the next best thing I knew possible, I gave away my seat, took my sunglasses off to ensure he knew I was dead eyeing him, and stood right infront of this guy, blocking most of his frontal view. And as soon as I did that, it did seem to throw him off a little, and he gave a quick glance at me and looked away, he did that a couple of times. After realizing I was not impresses by him, he gave an apologetic smile while I just shook my head. He continued using his phone to act like nothing was normal, so I did the exact same thing in reverse, where I took out my phone and pointed it to him, took a couple of snap shots for shits and giggles, and left it pointing at him for the rest of my train ride, he didnt dare look up once after I had my phone out. Only now, does he look like he is using a phone like a normal person and after a while he kept his phone.. Does he have nothing else better to do?
