1. if the phone does not support the thai language, needless to say.. of course it won't be displayed lah?!!
unless you're talking about the phone does not support thai language input.. then it might still be possible for the phone to be able to display thai words.

2. most thai girls who understand simple english should be able to more or less figure out your romanized thai bah.

Sometimes they call you back, ask you to call them and immediately put down the phone so that the call will be on your expense. *sign* :D

that's all folks??? Why you want to sound like bugs bunny?? kekekeke

1) OK bugs, if her phone does not support thai language, it will only appear as "boxes" in her phone. But most phones in Thailand should support thai language. Even if phones bought from overseas can have thai language supported for only 200 baht. Guess you must have bought her the phone form SG hor? kekekekeke

2) If you sms her in hanyu pinyin or even in English, don't worry even if she can't understand. She'll probably ask a friend there, probably a Singaporean or Malaysian, to help her translate the messages and both of them will probably be having a good laugh. kekekekekekeke

y bother to ask here?? u should just send the sms 1st n see wats her response n then act upon it. watever it is.. due to the long hours @ work, n the heavy bombardment of sms from her other suitors... gonna take some hours/days for u to receive her call n ask: "DARLING, wat u sms me?? sorry na krap...i working didnt see...i miss u mak mak.. today u wat time come see me, then u can explain to me ja???"

or: "how come u know pasa-thai?? which WL u learn from??!!? y ur phone can write thai?!!? u go golden mile w other gals isit?!!? which hse..?? u tell me??!!"

could also follow by: "i dont care wat u say.. u jao-choo me!!!!..u better come see me today to explain, if not.. dont ever come back to me ever again!!"

lol...bro.. chok dee na krap...sms is irrelevant. if really wanna prove it. sms r nothing but alien skripts that will be overwritten by new incoming sms. costly presents r nothing but presents, but presence supercedes all forms of presents. (unless ur face really make her owehk then ... sigh)

Depends, I got two SE phones (T68 and T630), that I picked up in Singapore, with two girls in Thailand and they can't enter Thai, but both the phone book and incoming SMS works with Thai characters :D Not sure about any other brands.

nope.. havent happened to me, never happened to me. so far only been nagged for staying up too late or not asleep when i should be cos i got work the following day.

fact is, i literally showed her all the mediums/gadgets that i use for learning my thai, whilst she'd be learning simple english phrases she could use when she goes out shopping (courtesy of me), to bargain & enquire stuff.

unfortunately, some here think they can impress the girl just by speaking a few lines of inaudible/incomprehensible thai where the intonations/tones r going hay-wire... hence stringing a whole line of literal "sweet" nothings lol. not understanding the culture & her background only makes matters worse.

(unless ur face really make her owehk then ... sigh)I feel sms'sing in thai (assuming your gf is thai) comes into serious play only after the 2 of you are really dating and u want to express thoughts/emotions over and beyond what is possible for her to comprehend in English.

Or she/he is just a friend and sms'sing in thai is cos she/he has problems understanding your English sms. In this case, I think "broken" English - written the way a Thai can understand. Unless even that is a problem (I've experienced that too, even though she works in office)

bro free, as much as i've seen & heard the stuff about sending out thai sms to ur gal, i too share ur joy & am envious of u & ur fiancee. however, sometimes its really subjected to the receiving party if she's really appreciative of the progress & efforts. it works for some, but not all.

my gal for example, being in the GL scene can really be a jealous pot at times. in recent months, since my leap of progress/improvements in the language has somehow struck the jealous chord in her, where she becomes quite paranoid. fears making me wait each time i go see her @ the stipulated ETA i informed her. she fears i might mingle amongst her colleagues while she's at work etc. needless to say, the immense amount of TLC i give to her has also stirred quite abit of envy amongst her colleagues - regardless frens or foes.

cant say for sure that she's not appreciative of my eagerness to muster the language, cos our conversations though jumbled thai-english-hokkien etc, have been comprehensive. times when situation doesnt permit, the thai definately comes in discreetly handy. though not spelt out, i'm certain she's a glimpse of doubt about where i'd go to practice the language.

no hard feelings... bt some gals rather the man be who he originally is, as long as he's able to accept her differences, her past, for who she is n not wat she is. maybe my case is unique, bt still i appreciate the support & tutoring- its proven to come in handy whenever i need to explain my pt. at the end of the day, a new language learnt wont set me back that far...at least for the future business prospects that's in line to be realized in the near future. kudos~ my bro...

It is others that tried to label me all sorts of things and I cannot control them. I hope that you will be wise enough to realise that & not get tricked too. If u refuse to accept this fact, I also cannot do anything about it.

All I have been doing is sharing what I know, and correct mistakes/misconceptions so that everyone can learn together. And that it can be a real joy to know Thai to level that I now know. Do remember that some of my teachers today are Ang Mos who dun even live in Thailand, and to have them teaching me examples of how to use certain words/phrases, and even the Tone Rules is a very humbling experience. For that matter they write their examples in Thai and explain using Thai and/or English.

bro free, as much as my desire to learn the language were born outta intentions to communicate/better understand her - the cultures, the mentality & more important issues in a tirakship. preparations for my biz plans over there, or if in any case, should the day come where i'd be granted the opportunity to converse during the meet-the-parents session.

there's nevertheless a tiny glitch, where she's getting concerned about my ability to communicate and soon become fluent in it. some thoughts i've had in recent wks about her making me abstain, some things dun make sense, some things make absolute sense. n i'm sure u should know by now how TGs behave... they dun spell things out clearly. they'd wanna be trusted, or at least be given the benefit of doubt. more so since she's in this scene n limited time/liberty of expressing herself. yes morale a little bit affected somehow, bt as u know.. transition phase is never the most comfortable part of the ride. just gotta sit tight, fasten the seat belt & pray hard that airbags r in gd working order. if God willing.. no need for the airbags at all.

to me, its been a gd long yr & if all that's required of me is only a little bit more patience & time to grant her... i shall gladly give. wats another few more wks after having the gd yr prior to all this. 真金不怕烘炉火

The more you learn Thai, the more you will know. Can be a good thing or bad. depend on how you see it. Meet the parents? Actually there is not much good in meeting them. I have a fren who dated this Thai gal for a few months. At first, he would stay in a hotel when he came down to BKK to visit her. Then he met the parents and stayed at their house. Boy, it was a nightmare. Every night must bring the family and then the relatives and then the frens out for makan and drinks. However his Thai was getting better as he has been practising in Singapore. He began to learn more about the "family" and the more he learnt, the more he du lan he was. Now he doesn't stay at the parent house any more. Stick back to the hotel.

thanx for pointing that out, i've been pondering about this issue too. actually, now that its a transition phase ongoing... i cant say for sure if things will dilute eventually when she's gone home. who's to say that she might bump into a suave looking, filthy rich, pak-wan cheongster in flight, n then sparks fly n then... next thing.. i'm history. **gees, i'm a bastard if i think so little of her.

n yes, to meet the folks... pockets should be deep enough to make some impact, bt of cos... nt to the extent where i suddenly feed them for wks/months lor.

dunno much about ur fren's bad experience, bt i reckon... meeting the folks/family/extended families/peers-close frens etc may not be a bad thing altogether. its primarily for them to screen this FARANG bf of the gal. needless to say, also to remember his face, so they can help keep a lookout if he jao-choo somewhere else. so i take meeting the folks as a big leap of faith & commitment towards the tirakship.

Hi Bros
I think most thai are like this. When you meet their family and eventually, you have to bring them out to eat. Thais, they like to show off to their friends and relatives that,my daughter's bf are from where and are loaded or whatsoever. Their neighbours will look up to them. They will have good faces for the family
Actually, if you are interested, speaking thai is nice, thai language are quite soft and polite. You will pick up fast if your interest is there. Initially, when I hear my friends speak, I used to laugh at them. But when i try to learn and speak, I find it very tough. When I really pick-up to learn, and the more I learn the more I am eager to put into use. From, there I will always ask my friends or try to surf the net and to find out more for myself. Just sms in those hanyu pinyin, nowsaday, thai's gal are quite smart, they can pronounce simple english like our singlish. Those have gone back from sg will sure know somehow abit what you are trying to tell them. Give it a try, and you will never know.

If the ppl from yr TG's family are ganging up (hopefully she is not involved as well) to squeeze more out of u, that is cheating u too.

I will never forget the one who told me this, ".....if u want to do what u want to do in thailand... never let anyone cheat u cos u do not understand thai whether it is spoken or written". And the followed by a daily barrage of thai sms that each intially took me 30 minutes to deciper and reply. But that initial hard period brought me to the point today where I am glad I put in that effort.

Face is no doubt still important and letting neighbours know their daughter has a good tirak gives them a measure of pride, but the "Greng Jai" ones do not do it at the expense of the guy whom they know is a good man who loves their daughter. In fact they are just as worried what the guy will think of them. And if they caused him any undue pressure, their daughter could well end up losing him. That is the last thing they want! One thing they know for sure, other parents' daughters are waiting to grab him!

Let us never forget that in the Thai society, men are higher than the women, and also good men are hard to come by. The TGs will do a lot for their man if he is good (she will know if she is smart). I've never understood why with many WLs or their likes, the situation almost always has got to be the opposite! Why must that be so? Surely something is wrong with that relationship if there is one in the first place?

So the best solution is to learn Thai secretly but don't let them know that you cow jai what they said. If that is the case, then you will learn many things that would otherwise be unspoken.

But if there is so much mistrust in the first place, then why do you still need to be with her? It seems like a lot of ppls learnt Thai cos they don't trust what the TG said. Same with my fren's case too.

U alone know best what the actual situation may be.

For me, the only emotions I would expect from any TG who is interested in me (and vice versa), be it as a normal friend or something more is that she should welcome my efforts to learn thai and even want to be part of it if possible. That has been so in 100% of my experience with all TGs I bother to befriend.

Yes, most TGs wish to be trusted, and if u matter enough to them, they will go beyond the "wishing" - their actions will more or less commensurate with their wishes. Then and only then would they deserve my benefit of doubt if on a few occassions (that means exceptions to the norm), somethings really got cocked up.

Check out your own scenario for yourself. U alone must walk your journey, & u alone must reap the fruits, be they bitter or sweet. All advice from any others are, but from afar.

Learn Thai for ourselves. Not being cheated so easily is but one of the benefits (does not mean know thai = will not be cheated).

Also, if yr gals' family members (or friends) ever talked to themselves about ripping you off, and u can hear what they say and understand, so can your gal hear it if she is with you. What she does about it will show you where you are in her heart. Unfortunately I am not qualified to give any advise on this point, as I never had to suffer that, thank goodness. But as I am learning Pasar Neur, maybe one day I will also qualify

I agreed fully with both of you. Ultimately, it is you and your gal. If she really cherish and love you, no matter what will happen, she will be with you. Only the guy will know whether the gal really love him or his money. Third party will always can give advice only. We learn thai, is to make us can easily communicate with our thai's GF. We want to let them know that we appreciate her and want her to be part of us. If she know that we really do all this because we love her, if she really Jai Dee, she will appreciate it.
It's true we will be able to understand what she or her family said if we Cow Jai Pai sah Thai. We put ourselves in the some advantage point if we understand the language so that they cannot take advantage of us.
But one thing for Thai's gal, they like to tell lies. This is their habit. All of them are the same. So sometimes, we really have to be very careful with them, they always tell lies. Sometimes, you will not know whether she is telling the truth or not. In order to protect ourselves when we are alone there, we must always be alert and be smart.

Agree with u 100%! Be it WL/FL or decent Thai ladies.... don't know why they lie about everything... small things, big things.. maybe got to do with being "greng jai" and don't want to complicate things.... or simply cannot communicate because of language barrier so they choose to lie.....

I've an ex-Thai staff.. lady.. told me her dad passed away when she was young... mom has cancer and still in treatment.... few months later confirmed with other staffs that both her parents passed away long time ago... gees.. not jus that... lied to me in Thailand gotta take blood test for driving tests??? My other staffs laughed when i asked them about this... gees.... all sorts of nonsenses...

Sometimes, you will not know whether she is telling the truth or not. In order to protect ourselves when we are alone there, we must always be alert and be smart.IMHO (depending on your definition of "lies"), this is either an overstatement OR it could be so general that most people in this world (including me, and probably you) are guilty of it as well - tell a small white lie and we think its too small to hurt anyone and it sure makes things a bit more convenient for everyone.

Really, rather than classify an excuse/reason/(lie) as a straightforward lie, I'd rather understand the rationale behind that person's action (or spoken words). Often times I realised it is out of "Greng Ja" (consideration) and even Love! Or simply a desire to avoid more questions, or not wanting cause us distress.

We can choose to get angry/upset or one can chose to appreciate. If we really had a problem with what he/she did, we can also choose to go one step further and explain to that person (albeit gently, if not lovingly) why his/her actions hurt/upset us. If we are important enough to that person, we can expect to see genuine efforts by that person to least try to stop those white lies, not always successful, but the difference is obvious.

Maybe I have already taken such actions for granted, but I really tend to think it should be something that is normal - if we REALLY meant something to that person.

seems to me u're too gullible to believe all that stuff, so u bcom the joke of the day, bcos very easy to bluff u. no offence bro, she tell u all the sad story, bt at the end if never ask u for $...wats the damage done?

all those lies about the proceedings for blood test etc, even if its not true (fyi, it does take place in other farang countries. cos they state their blood group on their drivers license, & will indicate if u're a organ donor or not.)has it ever occured to u that she's trying to strike a conversation, thinking u could fill her in on wats it like - where u come from?

it could all just be in the name of fun. maybe she's got a liking for u, so she purposely tease u. no need to get so worked up about it la.... jai yen yen. no need to resort to generalizing that all TGs r nasty by nature.

Before u call anyone gullible (which in my dictionary also means stupid to me), think first.. who say I believe her? I won't be asking others if I believe her.... but why the point of lying in the first place? There is no damage done... u are right.. didn't ask for $ also.. so the question is why lie then? This is my point.. why she lie?

If you read the post give by kenwee, http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/Reader/reader1803.htm , u'll read that this farang pointed out that Thai has the habit of lying too. So I guess i am not the only people who think so...

What I quoted was an example... jus for ur info, i am working with Thai ppl day in day out and i know what i am talking about....

And for ur info, I don't think lying makes u a nasty person.... u are the one who assume so... i am merely making a remark that I agree with handsome2000 that I too think Thai women have the habit of lying.

Of cos i can be wrong and maybe unfortunely the Thai women i came across just has the habit of lying to ME... just as ppl branding s'poreans as kiasu and kiasi.. i am sure not EVERY s'poreans are like this....

Sorry if that spoil the perfect image of Thai women for u...

For a person who talk about envying other people wanting to be "ultimate tirak" with a WL/FL, can i call u naive or gullible too? bro?

if u choose to hear n not listen, then there's hardly any issue about feeling sore that someone's been lying to u. neither did i assume that all thai woman r good. no i dont think thai woman r perfect, bt at least they can be genuine with those whom she wanna be.

her intention for lying is still not clear for varied reasons:

1) u're not korn-thai, u're farang.. so u'll never know/understand their rationale to
2) she finds u irritable so her lying is to ward u off, so she doesnt have to patronize u in any further conversations
3) she's got a crush on u to see how u'd react after discovering her lie, expecting some form of confrontation.. so she can explain herself, n perhaps earn ur concerns for her
4) she's an attention seeker, by doing that just to draw attention from not u alone, bt from everyone else

etc etc.

fyi, not only thai gals lie... everyone lies. its only a matter of how well the lie is told, so much so that others r convinced.

me envy bro suteerak's ability of unconditional love, his ability to appreciate his gal for who she is, over what she is... tell me, oh "WISE" 1, how is that possibly gullible or naive? just bcos u noi-jai n choose to pick on the little lies, while someone else has earned my respect for him.. so u call me gullible? how curious...

dont worry about me, as far as i'm concerned, i'm remotely anywhere near jai-rorn/moho haha. i'm having a gd time laughing at how petty u r. i'm sure alot of us r amused by ur understatements of identity crisis/inferiority complex too. :D

its either a coincidence that u enjoy this catch phrase as much as alot of us do? or u're just 1 of the many clones of the public enemy - SM, SM2, SM3, suteerak1O99, piterfish...etc

trying to stir up some trouble/conflict between fellow samsters. u having frust or wat? get some bonks to release that frust bro, not unless u cant cum - hence leading to yr frust/desire to be an irritant?

Even if they are genuine, they will still tell lies. Because they scared their lies will break their man's heart.

I will be very very very very very very surprised, if one day a thai girl can don't lie to me for 6 months at the very least.

Make that 1 month . 6 months might be too much for them.
