A piece of advice -

This particular kit is not going to be made available directly to the public for good reason. It is design to tests for particular sub-types of the HIV virus prevalent in a particular region, in this case, S.E. Asia and Asia-Pacific.

Consequently, even if you get a negative test, it only means that you aren't positive for this sub-type. Its accuracy cannot compare to actual blood works being done at DSC. But close enough that on a national level, it is an important tool in the War against HIV/AIDS.

Just so that everybody understands this.

The self test kit is expected to be available in GPs next month, January 06. I guess even though this self test kit will be available, i would still encourage bros who are at high risk to go for pre-test counselling at AfA or DSC. At least, this will prepare you for the result.

Unfortunately, you cannot bring the test kit into your bedroom to test. It must be done in the presence of a medical professional or in a clinical setting. If you are prepared to bring the girl to the clinic to do the test, then you are welcome to do it. But one misconception here is the Window Period - 1-3 months. At the point of testing, you may not be infected, however you might have risky activities the nite before your test, then your test result will be inaccurate. Very important to equip yourself with these info before you do the test - which explains the importance of pre- and post test counselling.

Best wishes

Effective pre-test and post-test counseling is still needed in this instance. One may also not be able to read the readings accurately, unlike a trained counselor or healthcare personnel. What if the result is a false positive or true positive, can one handle that “emotional stress” alone?

Do go to DSC for testing, it costs only $20, and it’s totally anonymous. Be cool, be responsible…

Can email [email protected] if there are any further queries.

yes i full agree...best to take at Afa, this sort of thing can be a life changing one...better to have counselling before and after...i read about making the test kit avaliable at night spots...what's the point here?...you may test negative but what if it is within the window period? and does testing negative for both means you can go raw? other STDs presence are not tested...and we know tose gals we pick up at night spots are regulars ONS...so they are the high risk group...raw or protected no one knows...

I heard by law it's compulsory for all medical practitioners in Singapore to report HIV positive results to the authority and the authority is obligated to inform the spouse (if any) of the HIV positive patient.. Is this correct understanding? If so, how can DSC be totally anonymous?Anyone has further info?

AFA uses the DSC premises for their anonymous testing. It's AFA that does the testing and not DSC.

Don't worry, no-one will ask you for your name or ID. I know coz I've been there for testing before.

Bro, So what happen to those tested positive ? Do AFA do any follow up ?
If Not, how they keep up the reported number of cases ?
Then what is the point of AFA conducting the tests ?

AFA will offer support and counselling to those who test positive. Whether you want to reveal your ID is still up to you.

The point of the anonymous testing is to encourage people to come forward for testing. One of the biggest dangers of this disease is that people do not know they have been infected by HIV and go around spreading it. With more testing, infected people can be treated to prolong their life and more importantly take precautions to ensure that they do not pass on the virus to others.

For those who are tested positive during the anonymous testing, they will undergo counseling by the counselors at the test-site. There will also be follow-up counseling on other issues, like financial support for medication, and coping with life after the infection. There are also support groups in AFA that one can join, which will provide moral and other forms of support.

The statistics of the number of people tested positive or negative during a test session is kept for the record, but no names or IDs are taken, so rest assured that everything is TOTALLY ANONYMOUS.

Dear PASSIONAETE04, the point in AFA conducting the test is to provide anonymous HIV testing to the public, and this in itself is not an easy task. Knowing one’s HIV status can change one’s life forever, not to mention the impact on one’s loved ones.

Play safe, and do test yourself regularly.

Totally Anonymous:rolleyes: .....how does AFA handle the issue of informing the spouse after testing +tive? It is required by law now that if spouse is not informed by victim, MOH will notify them.
If a person is tested +tive thru AFA anonymous testing, after counselling still refuse to inform the spouse, what is AFA going to do? Inform MOH to inform the spouse so as to safeguard him or her? then AFA testing will lose its anonymity and defeat its whole objective to encourage testing.:(
