Hello,
Anyone knows the procedure for filling for a divorce? My wife and I can no longer continue our marriage any longer. Even though she is not agreeable to it, I think it is best that we go our separate ways to find our own happiness. After almost 4 years of marriage, it's come to a point where I am very unhappy in the relationship...We have tried to salvage it but it looks like a lost cause to me.
Anyone has similar experience before and can give me some advice?
Tks!

There's a sticky in this very section which answers ALL questions regarding divorce laws in the required procedures. Why don't you READ IT FIRST before asking such a general question.
The hard work put in by the guys here seems to be wasted on you.

You must first go and file a seperation deed with a lawyer...three years is the waiting time for seperation (how you get a backdated seperation deed is your own cleverness)....after that you can get the lawyer to act for the both of you if there is a consent and there are no major things to do such as house/flat/children/cpf/etc...etc....then you can must get the lawyer to act for one party and go to court ...get your decree nisai...after getting that ...about a few months later...decree abosolute (not vodka ya)...then you are ready to go the whole circle again.... ha ha
Get married = about $45.00
Get divorced= minimum $2k onwards....

What kind of advice you want? To salvage your relationship or to go ahead with the divorce?
If this thread is not the place to seek advice, you can always email me at

The divorce procedure can get settled within a period of 3-6 months from the time both parties walk into a law firm, as long as both parties agreed that they are seperated 分居 (doesn't matter even if they stay in the same resdiential unit) since 3 years ago.

Bro Inkrubber,
Sorry to hear about your predicament. You may wish to know:
1. you can start divorce proceedings immediately. No need to wait.
2. if your wife agrees to the divorce, you can get the court order in 6 months from the date you start the procedure.
3. if your wife agrees to divorce, legal fees + court fees + stamp fees everything all in should be between nett $3,000 to $5,000 (check with a few law firms before you decide). But you will have to decide what to do with your flat, kids etc.
4. Most important: agree with your wife that there is nothing in the divorce papers mentioning anything about you having to pay her maintenance. Otherwise she's got you by the balls.
All the best bro!

if u r damn serious, u shld look for a lawyer to see if you can protect yr assests/income/etc. bear in mind the disparity between yr income and yr wife and what kind of lifestyle have u provided her. children add to the complications too. look for professionals if u need help. good luck!
