Malaysian company launches halal mineral water Lumin Spring
MALAYSIA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Lumin Spring International Group Sdn Bhd has launched a halal mineral water called Lumin Spring.
Certified by the Health Ministry and Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) as safe for consumption, Lumin Spring says it is a nourishing mineral water with halal accreditation.
Speaking during a press conference at Nexus in Bangsar South, Lumin International Group executive director Ting Chung Cheng hopes the new product will redefine the business frontier for the halal market.
"We intend to enter the global halal market with our new product," Datuk Dr Ting said.
"The accreditation from Jakim opens a new market and more opportunities for us."
Lumin Spring mineral water is sourced from the natural spring cluster in Heavenly-Lake at Changbai Mountain in China's Jilin province.
Lumin Spring incorporated environmentally-friendly features in its gold-tinted water bottle, which is fully biodegradable and made from non-toxic materials.
To ensure the mineral water bottles have a sustainable shelf life in the tropical climate of Malaysia with its high temperatures throughout the year, they were made to withstand temperatures of up to 150 deg C.
The Lumin Spring mineral water is expected to be priced between RM6 (S$2) and RM6.50 and will be available at exclusive partners of the company and for online purchase at www.luminspring.com.my in December.

http://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/malaysia-and-the-concept-of-peaceful-salafism
Malaysia and the concept of "Peaceful" SALAfism
Salafism in Malaysia has garnered renewed attention with the increasing presence of Salafi ulama within the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) youth wing.
Salafi doctrines emphasise a return to religious practices of the Prophet and his followers in the seventh century and the removal of all forms of innovation and any adherence to pre-Islamic practices.
While it is unlikely that these new Umno Salafis would uproot the largely traditionalist Islamic bureaucracy and institutions in Malaysia, their presence has reinvigorated the nexus between Salafism, politics and extremism.
In order to contrast non-violent Salafism with Jihadi Salafism, the term "Peaceful Salafism" has been bandied about by pundits. While not meant as a serious analytical category, it attempts to describe the non-violent Salafi imagination in Malaysia, regardless of whether one is a political or quietist Salafi.
Quietists are perceived to be peaceful because they shun street activism and focus their activities on proselytisation. Political Salafis are perceived so because, unlike their violent counterparts, they attempt to achieve their end - an Islamic utopia - through political participation rather than armed strife. Peacefulness is thus defined as either being unchallenging of the political status quo or pursuing ends through the means of peaceful politics.
Salafi scholars have to rescind the hate in their rhetoric. Peaceful Salafis cannot be ambivalent to the presence of Jihadi Salafis and their followers who dwell safely within the Malaysian "Political Salafi" and "Peaceful Salafi" climate. Otherwise, they would be seen to harbour extremism hopes - no matter how latent - for an Islamic utopia in Malaysia.
But it is not incontrovertible that peaceful Salafism is all that peaceful. While field research by Dr Maszlee Malik and Dr Khalil al-Anani (2013) shows that political participation has tamed radical Salafi elements in Egypt, the same cannot be said about political Salafism's foray into the mainstream of Malaysian politics. Despite having an Islamist space in social and political arenas, Malaysia has hosted local and regional radical groups such as Al-Ma'unah, Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia and Jemaah Islamiyah.
The mechanism that encourages peacefulness among groups that decide to lay down their arms for the political process is the promise of continued or even increased relevance and popularity in society. This mechanism is not foolproof.
As long as a total and radical Islamisation of Malaysia towards the end of an iconographic Islamic utopia is not fully achieved, radicals and supporters will feel unsatisfied and seek to realise "Daulah Islamiyah Baqiyyah wa Tatamaddad" (an Islamic State that is forever lasting). This was revealed in a Facebook posting written by a Malaysian Abu Sayyaf fighter who encouraged his followers to pursue armed extremism all over the world, from Syria to Pattani, Ambon-Poso and Mindanao.
Radicals like him may be militant or Jihadi Salafists, but radical followers and supporters, numbering in the thousands, are from the different strands of Salafism. What ties them together is a subscription to an exclusivist position on the Salafist doctrine of Al-Wala' wal-Bara' (Loyalty and Enmity) that draws narrow theological boundaries between oneself and the putative "Other".
This duality is at odds with the Malaysian society they live in, which is democratic - ostensibly a heinous innovation - and multi-religious. When confronted with their cognitive dissonance, they either put aside their worldview, or concur that Malaysia is yet to be Darul Islam.
Now that Umno has co-opted the Salafi ulama for religious legitimacy, there is a rekindling of political discourse within the Salafi worldview. For instance, Dr Fathul Bari, the current Executive Committee member of Umno youth who once elaborated on his taxonomy of kafirs (infidels) before he joined Umno, has recently expressed his displeasure regarding "Puji Kafir, Hina Islam" (praising infidels while insulting Islam). Dr Fathul Bari argues that, despite the value deficiencies of Muslim societies and governments, placing a positive value upon the perceivable good of infidel societies and governments is an act of shirk.
The Islamic Party, PAS, also legitimises its electoral fights with Umno by arguing that Umno does not satisfy their vision of Muslim rule. PAS and Umno engage in piety-outbidding through the contention of the Islamic-ness of Malaysia.
Otherwise, another example of piety-outbidding between PAS and Umno centres on the confusing debate over the legitimacy of teaming up with non-Muslims in their respective coalitions, because, as ideologues like Dr Fathul Bari would argue, some kafirs are Kafir Harbi and meant to be fought and opposed. The problem with this discourse is that it falls neatly into the already highly racialised politics in Malaysia, encouraging racist rhetoric and allowing Umno Supreme Council member Annuar Musa to brag that his "racism is based on Islam".
Jihadi Salafism and elements of Salafism that encourage kafir hatred, that is hatred of non-Muslims, should not be left unchallenged.
Put in the context of a racialised, multi-religious society, non-Muslims and those Muslims around the world who are "not-so-Muslim" are at risk if hatred is given a womb in which to percolate an Islamic State in Iraq and Syria brand of 100 per cent Islam: Jihadi Salafism.

German Vice Chancellor warns Saudi Arabia over Islamist funding
BERLIN (Reuters) - German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel urged Saudi Arabia on Sunday to stop supporting religious radicals, amid growing concern among some lawmakers in Berlin about the funding of militant mosques by the world's biggest oil exporter.
The unusual criticism of the Gulf state follows a report by Germany's foreign intelligence agency which suggested that Saudi foreign policy was becoming more "impulsive".
The German government rebuked the BND agency for making such suggestions about Saudi Arabia, an important business partner that is involved in international talks to find a political solution to the Syria crisis..
"We need Saudi Arabia to solve the regional conflicts," Sigmar Gabriel, the head of the Social Democrats (SPD) who share power with conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel, told the mass-circulation newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
"But we must at the same time make clear that the time to look away is past. Wahhabi mosques are financed all over the world by Saudi Arabia. In Germany, many dangerous Islamists come from these communities," he said.
Saudi Arabia follows the ultra-conservative Wahhabi form of Islam, and some outsiders see it as a cause of the international jihadist threat.
In a statement, the Saudi Arabia embassy in Berlin said the Kingdom was interested in countering the radicalization of young people and referred to a previous statement in which it denied wanting to build 200 mosques in Germany.
"Like Germany, we are part of the anti-Islamic State coalition and fighting side by side against terror," it said.
The Saudis have cracked down on jihadists at home and cut militant finance streams, but some groups, including Islamic State (IS) and al Qaeda, follow an extreme interpretation of the Salafi branch of Islam of which Wahhabism was the original strain.
Germany is worried about growing support for Salafism. The domestic intelligence agency says the number of Salafists has risen to 7,900, up from 5,500 just two years ago.
Another senior Social Democrat, Thomas Oppermann, also homed in on Saudi Arabia, saying Wahhabism offered a ideology for IS insurgents and contributed to the radicalization of moderates.
"We don't need or want it in Germany," he told the weekly Welt am Sonntag.
Germans are worried about a possible attack on their soil, especially after the bombings and shootings in Paris on Nov. 13 that killed 130 people.
Responding to an appeal from France, Germany is sending reconnaissance jets, a frigate and 1,200 military personnel to join the fight against IS insurgents in Syria. It is not, however, joining U.S., French, Russian and British air strikes.
The head of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany said military action was not the way to stop insurgency.
"We have sown the seeds of war and it has resulted in terror and refugees," Aiman Mazyek told the Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung, referring to the war in Iraq which Germany opposed.

MACC met RM2.6b donor in Middle East: report
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/HmHClcpDjB4K61LscR3bCJIWR_-EbJQO8h8kBYfbioAjxzJTDr_MwGLZoo9xqxuykw0iauWcteYsv z53HA=s800
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had sent a team to the Middle East to meet with the individual who donated RM2.6 billion, which was deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts.
According to the New Straits Times, MACC investigations division director Azam Baki said the meeting was held recently.
However, he could not disclose further details, including the identity of the donor, as investigations were ongoing.
http://mk-cdn.mkini.net/921/acf0a15adaf623ab87b10cdcc33b0a8e.gif
MACC, which had confirmed the RM2.6 billion was a political donation, is investigating the matter with regard to gratification.
The colossal sum was transferred ahead of the 2013 general election.
The issue erupted when the Wall Street Journal and whistleblower website Sarawak Report exposed the transaction based on leaked documents from Malaysian investigators.
Critics, however, refused to believe that the RM2.6 billion was a donation.
Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has been calling for Najib's resignation, had claimed that those in the Middle East are not so generous.
On Saturday, the MACC recorded a statement from Najib regarding this matter as well as the transfer of RM42 million from SRC International into the prime minister's accounts.
The RM42 million from the Finance Ministry-owned firm was transferred via its subsidiaries in late 2014 and early this year.
Sources from the Prime Minister's Department and Attorney-General's Chambers had previously revealed that several senior officers were involved in quizzing Najib.
In a statement later, MACC also confirmed it met the prime minister for two and a half hours, and that he had given “good cooperation” throughout the process.
Najib has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that there is a conspiracy to topple him.
He was also initially expected to face the Dewan Rakyat and answer questions surrounding the allegations on its final day of sitting for this session.
Najib, however, was reportedly advised against making any personal explanations over concerns of alleged sub judice.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi instead delivered a three-minute explanation, without allowing any further questions

Bumi-only IT mall opens, but traders worry about location
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/assets/uploads/articles/ismailsabri_lowyat2_mara_081215_seth_tmi.jpg
As "Low Yat 2" opens its doors today at the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) building in central Kuala Lumpur, gadget store owner Bob Nurdin hopes that business will improve at his new outlet in the Bumiputera traders-only digital mall.
He said sales at his previous location in Low Yat Plaza in Bukit Bintang had dropped 80% following a racial scuffle in July, triggered by a handphone theft by two youths.
The incident escalated into a riot after 200 people congregated at the plaza, forcing authorities to order businesses at the premises to close early.
Police had cordoned off the area, but a crowd gathered again after midnight and fights broke out, with helmets and other items thrown between rival groups. At least five people, including media personnel, were reportedly injured in the incident.
Bob, 30, felt he needed to try something new after eight years at Low Yat Plaza.
"I am forced to take the risk as my business has plummeted since that incident.
"Many customers do not patronise my shop for fear of a repeat of that," he said.
He said at the Mid Valley IT Fair, customers had turned away upon learning that his store was located at Low Yat Plaza, where many of the electronic gadget retailers are ethnic Chinese.
"At the booth, customers asked how I could help if the laptop they bought from me malfunctions.
"When I told them to come to my shop in Low Yat, they immediately changed their mind about making a purchase."
He claimed that before the incident, some 90% of Low Yat Plaza customers were Malays.
But Bob said the July incident was not the main cause of the drop in sales.
Business had slowly declined after the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) in April.
Business at Low Yat Plaza has been on decline even before the riots last July sparked by a theft at a mobile phone store. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, December 8, 2015.Business at Low Yat Plaza has been on decline even before the riots last July sparked by a theft at a mobile phone store. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, December 8, 2015.Lower rental rates at Mara was another factor that made him to move out his business from Low Yat Plaza, said Bob.
"The price of goods can also be sold at a cheaper rate due to the cheaper rental," he told The Malaysian Insider who met him at his new store in the Mara building.
There were few customers at the proposed electronics store, which is strictly for Malay traders, ahead of its official opening today.
Shops here close as early as 7.30pm, in contrast to the stores at Low Yat Plaza, which operates between 10am and 10pm.
Despite this, Bob is positive that business will pick up when more retailers move in, and is confident customers will hail from all races despite the traders being all Bumiputera.
A trader who declined to be named said he would not move in to the Mara building despite the lure of cheaper rental, as he felt the location was not as strategic as his current lot in Low Yat Plaza.
"Low Yat 2" is located on the third floor of the Mara building.
"The concept in the Mara building is the same as in Plaza Alam Sentral – only one floor selling IT ware. "I dare not take the risk as the public already recognise Low Yat Plaza as the place to go for all kinds of gadgets from A to Z. The space there (Mara building) is also smaller," he said.
He still plans to apply for a spot in "Low Yat 2" to assess customer response at the new location. Another Bumiputera IT storeowner, who only wanted to be known as Lan, said he had tried but failed to secure a spot in the Mara building.
He was attracted by the promise of lower rental but conceded that the location was not as strategic, while the wares of other traders were largely limited to laptops and mobile phones. "Although I didn't get a chance to do business there, Low Yat is still more strategic and is known for selling a bigger variety of IT gadgets," said the storekeeper, who started in Low Yat Plaza ten years ago. "Low Yat 2" in the Mara building opens its doors today and its new name is expected to be revealed at the launching.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had proposed the idea for a digital mall with "100% Malay traders", after the fight at Low Yat Plaza, where the handphone thieves were Malays, while some of the vendors who gave chase and nabbed them were ethnic Chinese. Malay rights groups had then gathered outside the mall later where scuffles broke out. Ismail's idea courted controversy and earned him flak, with even Barisan Nasional (BN) component party MCA criticising the plan. But he said "Low Yat 2" would cater to public demand and reduce the focus on Low Yat Plaza in Bukit Bintang.
Ismail also accused Chinese businesses of exploiting consumers by raising prices, and has previously urged Malay consumers to boycott Chinese traders so as to force cheaper prices. – December 8, 2015. - See more at: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/bumis-only-it-mall-opens-but-traders-worry-about-location#sthash.vVSTOBlC.dpuf

Tawfik Ismail is not his father, Ridhuan Tee says in defence of Jakim
http://media.themalaysianinsider.com/assets/uploads/articles/ridhuan_tee_FB.jpg
http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/tawfik-ismail-is-not-his-father-ridhuan-tee-says-in-defence-of-jakim
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 — Tawfik Ismail’s call for the abolition of the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) carries no weight, lecturer Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah said today when dismissing the former’s bloodline as the son of Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman.
In a scathing column in Malay daily Sinar Harian, the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (Unisza) lecturer said Tawfik and the G25 of which he is a member of should not be emulated, as their status as former high ranking leaders or the offspring of ex-national leaders do not make them morally superior.
“I hope Muslims will not be fooled... just because that person is a leader, or they have that title or are the descendants of (leaders) means they are good, can be made example of or their opinions respected.
“The saying ‘like father, like son’ does not necessarily hold true. Sometimes the father is righteous but the son turns out to be a scoundrel. The father an Imam and the son a little devil,” Tee said.
Although the preacher did not name Tawfik or G25 in his latest column, he alluded to their statements, notably the former who, in media interviews, openly called for the abolition of Jakim and a return to an era where moral policing was non-existent.
Calling Tawfik and G25 “ignorant”, Tee said their lack of understanding about the role of Jakim and Islam was obvious, accusing them of wanting to restore the time when Muslims had dogs as pets and drank whiskey.
“If you like to have dogs so much you don’t have to encourage others to have them. I am not decreeing that having dogs as pets as haram. But understanding Malay culture, they are quite allergic to this creature so I respect their views,” said Tee, a Chinese who converted to Islam.
He went on to say that Tawfik and G25’s penchant for looking to the openness of Islamic interpretations during the Tunku Abdul Rahman as a sign of progressiveness was “inept”, insisting that time has changed and that it was a necessity for Muslims to conduct moral policing based on the “see no evil, do no evil” doctrine.
“This group had asked why is it during Tunku’s days people drank whiskey or alcohol yet their understanding of Islam remains sound. The question is, do we have to drink alcohol to show how liberal we are?” Tee wrote.
Tee also derided G25’s emphasis on the importance of English, arguing that Arabic was to him more important and said just because most Arab nations are considered failed states, it does not make the Arab language bad.
Tee is among G25’s fiercest critics, accusing the group of a sinister attempt to undermine Malaysia’s Islamic authorities and lobbying for liberal rule.
The G25 professes to a group of pro-moderation former civil servants that was formed out of concern over what it saw as rapid Islamisation of Malaysia by hardliners holding powerful posts in the country’s Islamic agencies.

The ban was declared on the internationally celebrated Christian holiday because the religious affairs ministry said that publicly marking non-Islamic rituals or festivities could be seen as propagations of religions other than Islam.
Roughly 20 per cent of Brunei’s residents comprise of non-Muslims, including sizeable Buddhist and Christian communities.
‘Believers of other religions that live under the rule of an Islamic country – according to Islam – may practice their religion or celebrate their religious festivities among their community, with the condition that the celebrations are not disclosed or displayed publicly to Muslims,‘
‘Muslims should be careful not to follow celebrations such as these that are not in any way related to Islam… and could unknowingly damage the faith of Muslims.‘ Said the government of Brunei in a statement.
The tough restriction was put in place after children and adults were seen wearing clothes ‘that resemble Santa Claus’ – thereby promoting a religion other than Islam
The statement also noted that businesses that publicly displayed Christmas decorations would be asked totake them down– to which the businesses had given their ‘full cooperation’ in the matter.
The penalty for celebrating Christmas in Brunei is punishable with a jail term of up to 5-years.
Brunei’s latest decision to ban Christmas officially will no doubt, attract more international criticism- following the harsh Sharia penal code that was announced to be implemented in the state in April by Brunei’s 68-year-old Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

Shut your mouth and school your cheating race, Ali Tinju tells MCA
http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/ali-tinju-melaka.jpg
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 — Accusing MCA of defending “cheating Chinese”, Mohd Ali Baharom told leaders in the Barisan Nasional (BN) party to stop shifting the blame and to take responsibility for the actions of the ethnic group it represents.
The former soldier whose Merah 1Malaysia movement claims to champion Malay rights told the ruling Chinese party to “school” its people first, after the leaders pointed out that race has nothing to do with dishonest merchants in the wake of an alleged handphone scam at the Kota Raya shopping complex in the city last week.
“I am warning MCA leaders. Shut your mouth, don’t question other races. School your own race first. Your race are cheaters,” he said to ProjekMMO, the sister publication of Malay Mail Online in Bahasa Malaysia.
The self-styled leader of a group calling itself the “red shirts” was responding to calls from MCA leaders to turn a deaf ear to Mohd Ali’s statements that have taken on a racial tone as the latter singled out the Chinese community for dishonesty in business.
“Are MCA leaders defending their race who cheat, blackmail, intimidate the rakyat?
“Do they agree with the Chinese trader’s action? Do MCA leaders have nothing better to do than to blame other races when their own race kicks up a fuss, is insolent and cheats?” he quizzed over the phone when contacted yesterday.
Mohd Ali, better known as Ali Tinju, said MCA should be more aware of its weaknesses as a party that was using the BN as a crutch.
He said the MCA should leave the ruling coalition and instead team up with federal opposition party, DAP and make it easier for critics to attack them.
“Are you supporting those who do wrong? MCA must be more self-aware, look into the mirror. MCA is sitting on a free chair gifted by Malays. Wake up MCA.
“That chair in Cabinet is also a free seat. If MCA does not take care of its race, better to get out of BN. Go join DAP. Easier for us to attack,” he said.
Mohd Ali did not elaborate on his allegations against MCA, but the Chinese party which once held the most seats in Parliament after Umno, has since seen its share shrink and with it support from its ethnic voter base.
Mohd Ali was charged with sedition in July over incendiary remarks he issued in connection with the Low Yat Plaza handphone cheating incident, but charges were later dropped.
He emerged into the spotlight again last week when he organised a protest outside the Kota Raya shopping complex here over another alleged handphone cheating incident.
In his speech during the protest, Ali Tinju broadly accused Chinese Malaysians of being fraudsters and urged Putrajaya to train handphone traders of Chinese descent to prevent them from cheating their customers.
On Sunday, a melee broke out inside the mall when a group of about 20 men stormed a mobile phone outlet to demand refunds over the same cheating incident.
Ali Tinju was arrested yesterday over remarks he made during the Kota Raya protest he organised and is believed to be under investigation for sedition

Senior Malaysian police officer gets 100 years for raping girl
A senior Malaysian police officer was today sentenced to 100 years in jail and 15 strokes of the cane for raping a 13-year-old girl four times and sodomising her once in a hotel.
54-year-old Deputy Superintendent Rohaizat Abdul Ani, a former anti-vice officer, was found guilty of four charges of rape and one of sodomy between February and May 2012.
Sessions court judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad slapped the maximum 20 years jail for each of the charge.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Azeezi Nordin told the court in Kota Kinabalu, capital of the Malaysian state of Sabah on Borneo island, that the accused in his capacity as a senior police officer was duty bound to act as a guardian to the public and not prey on them instead.
Azeezi had argued that the victim was only 13 years old at the time of the rape and sodomy which she endured at the hands of a man which he described as "a total manipulation of an adult against a child."
"The repetitious act of the accused in three months starting from February showed that the accused never considered the victim's age, emotions and consequences of his action," Azeezi was quoted as saying in local media.
Dressed in a dark grey jacket, Rohaizat remained calm and showed little or no expression. His wife, who was present in court, also showed no expression as the judge read out the sentence.
With some of the sentences running consecutively, Rohaizat will have to serve 80 years in prison.
The judge allowed a stay on the execution of the sentences pending appeal in the High Court.
Bail was set at 20 lakh rupees with one local surety and the accused was told to surrender his passport and report himself to the Federal police headquarters twice a month.
Rohaizat's lawyer, Zahir Shah, said they would file an appeal against the sentence.

Four months after embracing Islam, Sabahan singer gets flak for sharing Xmas carol
http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/four-months-after-embracing-islam-sabahan-singer-gets-flak-for-sharing-xmas
http://www.themalaymailonline.com/images/sized/ez/stacy_2212_620_465_100.jpg
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 — Sabahan singer Stacy Anam, who recently converted to Islam, is now experiencing the ugly side of fame after some conservative Muslim fans attacked her for posting a short video clip of a Christmas carol on Instagram.
Just four months after embracing the religion, the 25-year-old was accused of “celebrating” Christmas after sharing a video excerpt of carollers singing the classic “O Holy Night” on the popular photo-sharing application.
The accompanying caption on her Instagram account @stacyanam read: “Christmas carol by TKCC” followed by happy emojis and the hashtags #carolling and #thankyou.
Her post drew over 2,700 “likes” and more than 130 comments at the time of writing.
However, some Instagrammers appeared to take issue with her joyful posting and accused the newly-Muslim singer of being insensitive.
“Isn’t Stacy Muslim? How can celebrate Christmas?” said Instagram user @therealsnm in Bahasa Malaysia.
Another user adopted a more conciliatory tone but urged Stacy to be careful of her actions so as not to be seen as proselytising Christianity.
“Can celebrate with friends and family. Not wrong, just be careful. If careless and unaware of songs that praise any God other than Allah,” said @just_zul87 in Bahasa Malaysia.
Other Instagrammers jumped to Sacy’s defence, saying it was not unusual for Christmas in Sabah to be observed and celebrated by all and not just Christians.
“Eee Sabahans are like this. Mutual respect. All festivities are celebrated together by all races and religions. Non-racist harmony,” said @atiezull.
@danielchewdan also sided with Stacy, saying “It’s not wrong for her to visit her family who are still Christians. Why can’t understand such an easy thing? She has embraced Islam but her family is still Christian.”
Some Instagrammers put the attempt to stir controversy down to a peninsula-Borneo divide.
“Peninsula people don’t understand this situation… In Sabah, Muslims and non-Muslims are mixed like family. If Hari Raya, we celebrate together, if Christmas, we also celebrate together,” said @khiruddinawang.
A user with the handle @donna_gabriella chipped in and said it was “normal” for children from churches to go carolling from house to house in Sabah, where many in the villages were still largely Christian, and pointed out that it included Stacy’s hometown, Kampung Tuavon, northeast of Penampang on Sabah’s west coast.
According to a 2010 census, 26.6 per cent of Sabah’s population is Christian and Bumiputera, and regularly worship in the national language.
Controversy over Muslims marking Christmas and even offering greetings to those celebrating the Christian holiday season has been an issue in Muslim-majority Malaysia in recent years.
Stacy, who rose to fame after winning the sixth season of local reality TV series Akademi Fantasia, took on the Muslim name Ummu Shaikhah Stacy Anam upon converting in August. She is to wed another singer, Akim Ahmad next February

French 'Islamist' Yassin Salhi who beheaded boss commits suicide in jail
Cowards like him should just kill themselves...

A French Islamist who beheaded his boss and stormed a factory near Lyon has committed suicide in prison, authorities said. Yassin Salhi allegedly sent a selfie with the victim's head to a French radical fighting for Islamic State (Isis) in Syria moments before attacking a factory in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, south-eastern France, in June.
Officials at the Fleury-Merogis prison said the 35-year-old hanged himself in his cell on the night of 22 December. He was in solitary confinement but was not believed to be a suicide risk.
Why advertise with us
A native of the eastern Franche-Comté region of mixed Moroccan and Algerian descent, Salhi killed his manager Hervé Cornara, in a gruesome attack on 26 June. According to investigators, he left home in the morning armed with a 20cm knife, a replica rifle and two banners bearing the Shahada, an Islamic declaration of faith.
He then headed to work and waited in his van for Cornara, a transport company owner. As the 54-year-old arrived, Salhi lured him into the vehicle, knocked him out with a jack and choked him, prosecutors said.
He later drove to the vicinity of a US-owned gas factory in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier where he decapitated Cornara and then stuck the head between the two Islamic flags on the fence of chemical company, Air Products. Salhi finally crashed the vehicle into gas cylinders at the site to cause an explosion and was subsequently arrested by police with the help of a brave firefighter.
Shortly before being captured, the married father of three children sent two photos, via WhatsApp, a selfie with the severed head and a picture of the victim's decapitated body, to a friend identified as Sébastien-Yunes V, a 30-year-old Frenchmen fighting for IS (Daesh) in Syria.
Prosecutors said the attack bore all the hallmarks of the IS jihadi group but Salhi denied being moved by radical Islamist views. His death comes as France remains on high alert after 130 people were killed in a series of terrorism shootings and bombings in Paris on 13 November

Muslim preacher warns against dangers of ‘Jediism’ in M'sia, Star Wars fans strike back
http://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/4479955_700b.jpg
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 25 — An Islamic preacher has expressed concern over the “Star War” craze in Muslim-majority Malaysia, days after the latest installation of the epic cult movie series premiered here.
Rohidzir Rais took to Facebook to warn against the growing influence of “Jediism” in the country that was spread by fans of the movie, after reading a newspaper article titled “gila Star Wars” or “Star Wars craze” in English.
“In the West, there is a new religion called Jediism which makes this film the basis of their ‘faith’. Do you not realise this? Do you still want to defend your ‘faith’?” Rohidzir wrote in Bahasa Malaysia last Sunday, in an open appeal to Malaysian Muslim fans of Star Wars.
He claimed that Malaysia’s Gen-Y have become “lost” in the “3S”, which he said stood for “screen, sports and sex”
In a separate post a day earlier, the Al-Azhar University graduate had mocked the creator and director of the Star Wars series, George Lucas, as a prophet who was proselytising the “Jedi religion” worldwide with his “magical sabre”.
With the chaos in the battlefield and false fights in the imaginary world, we forget the real battle are against Muslims across the world,” he wrote.
His post drew mixed responses from Facebook users, with some fans castigating the preacher over his views.
“Pitiful, expecting those learned in religion but the antiquated thinking is as deep as the sea. Because of that many of our Malay Muslims have such backwards thoughts because preachers like you exist,” user Rusdi Muhammad responded and urged Rohidzir to watch a TV Hijrah programme that had provided a positive discussion of the movie.
Others, like Syed Fadzil urged Rohidzir to speak based on facts.
“There are a lot of fans from Generation X who are knowledgeable about this film and thank God there is no news of them who have lost their faith. You need to study the root of this issue,” he said.
“Don’t be like the black metal case. Even Black Dog Bone has been classified as Black Metal... because of the word black,” he added, referring to a 1980s pop group.
Another Facebook user Mohd Hayat said he sympathised with the Star Wars characters but could also feel for Muslims in strife-torn Yemen, Syria, Palestine and Ukraine.
“So what’s the problem? Don’t be a bonsai religionist,” he wrote.
Rohidzir was unperturbed in the face of the criticisms against him and responded in a similar mocking vein.
“The Malaysian galaxy is fortunate to have Muslim Jedi fighters that are brave and strong to defend their galaxy. We are convinced if World War 3 ever happens, they are ready to be martyrs with the Force that are strong in them.
“Congratulations once again to the Jew George Al-Lucas for succeeding in giving birth to Jedi martyrs who are ready to attack anyone who challenge their galaxy,” the author of 30 books who regularly appears on TV9’s “Tanyalah Ustaz (Ask Uztaz)” show wrote.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh installation of the sci-fi hit dating back to 1977 and premiered in Los Angeles on December 14.
The last movie in the series, “Revenge of the Sith” hit the silver screen 10 years ago as part of a prequel trilogy.

The Fatwa Against Women Touching Bananas And Other Stupid Islamic Orders
ASRA Q. NOMANI12.11.112:40 AM ET
There is an interesting headline moving through Muslim community listservs: “Did an Islamic cleric really ban women from touching bananas and cucumbers?”
This past week, an email pinged around the world, claiming that a Muslim cleric “residing in Europe” issued a, well, interesting fatwa, or religious ruling, banning Muslim women from touching bananas or cucumbers: “He said that these fruits and vegetables ‘resemble the male penis’ and hence could arouse women or ‘make them think of sex,’” according to a report in a supposed Egyptian website, BikyaMasr. The Times of India ran the story: “Islamic cleric bans women from touching bananas.”
“If women wish to eat these food items, a third party, preferably a male related to them such as their a father or husband, should cut the items into small pieces and serve,” the cleric supposedly dictated.
It’s hard to confirm that the fatwa is true, but the fact that we, in the Muslim community, would even think it’s possible is a reflection of just how inane the phenomenon of fatwas has become in the Muslim community. The idea of the fatwa became notorious when an Iranian cleric called for the killing of author Salman Rushdie when he published the novel The Satanic Verses, about an erased portion in the Koran supposedly inspired by the Devil.
The fatwas used to carry the authority of divine ordination. But the years since have revealed that, indeed, there is nothing to fear—or revere—about the fatwa. In fact, nowadays, you can get a fatwa to validate any point you want to make. I call it “fatwa shopping.”
One American-Muslim blogger, Sheila Musaji, concluded the fatwa was “only shoddy reporting,” but admitted there have been enough “stupid fatwas” to “make anything easy to believe.” Another blogger tried to chase down the truth, writing: “That’s some pretty good flame-bait, but is it legit?” The BikyaMasr website credited “el-Senousa news,” but the blogger wrote, “Good luck finding it,” concluding that “the tale of the vegetable-fearing Mullah is starting to look a little short on authenticity.”
Before the story became just another apocryphal tale like the ones that emerge from the Onion, the satire magazine that makes up news, the e-trail to the original story was clarified. Sunday, after unprecedented attention to the bikyamasr.com website, an email shot out from a man identifying himself as the site’s editor, Joseph Mayton, apologizing for the mixup, correcting the original Egyptian media outlet that reported the “cucumber sheikh” as www.assawsana.com and linking to the original story in Arabic. In an editorial, Mayton said that “the article should not have run when it did. Arguably, it should not have been run at all.” Most importantly, lest we wonder, bikyamasr.com ran an important followup story, “Cucumber sheikh ‘far from the truth,’ says Egypt Islamic leader,” Sheikh Gaber Taye’ Youssef, chairman of Egypt’s Religious Endowments Ministry—no pun intended, of course. The Islamic scholar was quoted saying, “God says in the Holy Qur’an ‘eat and drink from what we have granted you.’”
True or not, the possibility of such a fatwa underscores the long Ridiculist of fatwas, to borrow CNN host Anderson Cooper’s nightly feature of news stories of the absurd. “That cleric is an idiot,” one Muslim wrote. “But what am I going to do now? I eat lots of bananas because I am vegetarian,” wrote Farzana Hassan, a progressive Canadian-Muslim leader.

The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court was told that the accused who allegedly stole a mobile phone at Low Yat Plaza, admitted to the offence when questioned after the incident.
Chief security guard at Low Yat Plaza, Kamarudin Shariff, 55, said the accused, Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz, who was caught by members of the public at the mall, admitted to stealing the mobile phone when interrogated in his office.
He said, he then ordered the accused to remove all items which were in his possession including the mobile phone allegedly stolen, but the phone was not with him.
"Instead, the accused only took out money amounting to RM1.60 from his pants pocket. He failed to produce his identity card on the grounds that he lost it when he was robbed the previous day," he said during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor R Siamalah.
Kamarudin is the fourth prosecution witness to testify in the trial of unemployed Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz, 22, who was charged with stealing a mobile phone worth RM800 at Techasia Boutique, Low Yat Plaza, Bukit Bintang, at 4.47pm last July 11.
Shahrul Anuar (photo) was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine, if found guilty.
Kamarudin who has served the mall for the past two years, said he then contacted the Dang Wangi police headquarters for further action.
When asked about the incident, Kamarudin said he saw a salesman from Techasis Boutique, See Ming Ho, helping to arrest the accused when the latter fell in front of an escalator while running to escape from the shop.
He said the salesman told him that the accused came to the shop to purchase a Lenovo phone worth RM800, but took the phone when he turned his back.
During cross-examination by lawyer Nur Hayati Don Omar, representing the accused, Kamarudin agreed that he did not submit all copies of the closed circuit television (CCTV) recordings including the scene of the incident to the police.
He said there were more than 200 CCTVs in the plaza, and he knew where the CCTVs were positioned.
Besides Nur Hayati, the accused is represented by three other lawyers, Mohammad Yahya Zakaria, Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman and Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz.
The hearing before Magistrate Nur'Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor continues tomorrow

Marriage between Muslim and non-Muslim illegal, says Jakim
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — Any marriage between a Muslim and a non-Muslim is disallowed and is not recognised in this country and action can be taken by the state Islamic religious authorities, said Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Datuk Othman Mustapha.
He said Islamic family laws state no Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman and no Muslim woman can marry a non-Muslim man.
“A marriage between spouses of different religions is completed prohibited and against the principle of beliefs of the Shafie sect (Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah) in Malaysia,” he said in a statement here today.
He was commenting on a Universiti Malaya study on the issue of liberalism in Muslim marriages with non-Muslim spouses not having to convert from their religions.
Two days ago, Universiti Malaya Academy of Islamic Studies, Department of Akidah and Islamic Thought Associate Prof Dr Khadijah Hambali told religious authorities in the country to carry out specific measures to curb the phenomenon. — Bernama

Wanita MCA: Return children to Indira Gandhi now
http://www.thestar.com.my/~/media/online/2015/12/16/12/58/heng-mca.ashx/?w=620&h=413&crop=1&hash=9C57E19B2E66D0BA61515C2537D42BDE0EE138D3
PETALING JAYA: Wanita MCA has chided PAS Youth for saying that the Court of Appeal ruling on the Indira Gandhi case was a success for Islam.
Its chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie (pic) said despite the devastating ruling by the Court of Appeal, PAS "persistently aggravates the injustice" and asked if the party "is unable to respect the rights of Indira Gandhi to raise her minor children in the common faith at the time of their birth?"
She was responding to PAS Youth deputy chief Khalil Abdul Hadi who reportedly said that the “court decision is a success for Islam and a victory for the religion against the evil that is promoted by the liberals."
Heng questioned if PAS, in particular its next generation of leaders, was capable of articulating any intellectual discourse based on the law and evidence.
"The only argument PAS can muster is a sweeping holier-than-thou statement of 'evil-by-liberals-insulting-Islam,' dearth of logic to silence alternative views.
"PAS deliberately ignores the spirit of the law, the rights of the non-converting spouse and conveniently turning blind to the ex-spouse to unilaterally convert the minor children without informing Indira or his children.
"Is the father really spreading Islam or exploiting the Syariah court and Jabatan Agama Islam Perak to gain an upper hand on the children’s custody by making them Muslims?" she said.
The Court of Appeal last week, in a majority decision, ruled that Indira Gandhi's case was a religious matter under the Syariah Court and not within the civil court's jurisdiction.
Heng said PAS must clarify its view as to how Indira Gandhi’s yearning to be reunited with her last born child constitutes an “evil by liberals.”
She said the crux of the issue was that of justice and human rights for a mother who longs for an end from the separation from her daughter.
She said the issue was one of seeking a solution on cases of wayward parents who embrace Islam and then take advantage of religious authorities and the Syariah court to circumvent and even discard civil laws and the rights of the non-convert spouse.
"At no material time at all is there any challenge or insult to Islam, a religion grounded on justice, mercy and compassion and exalts the position of mothers.
"Why is PAS unable to respect the rights of Indira Gandhi to raise her minor children in the common faith at the time of their birth?
"Is this part of PAS’ grandiose plan to turn Malaysia into a theocratic state whereby the Federal Constitution, the supreme law of the law is relegated as inferior to PAS’ intended hudud enactments?"

Muslim women can’t freeze their eggs before marriage, says fatwa
http://happymoneysaver.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Image000041.jpg
http://myhotstation.com/?p=167561
This is soooo stoooopid. Men can have 5 wives and 72 virgins but women can't freeze eggs.
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 — Muslim women in Malaysia are forbidden by a fatwa to freeze their eggs before marriage.
Shariah law only allows a woman’s eggs to be fertilised by her husband’s sperm. Thus, freezing her eggs for social purposes is not allowed, said fertility expert Dr Natasha Ain Mohd Nor.
“A fatwa has been established for Muslim women, where freezing their eggs before marriage is not permissible,” she told Bernama. “However, after marriage, they can freeze their eggs provided they be fertilised by the sperm of the husband.”
Dr Natasha said egg freezing in Islam was only encouraged if the woman is unable to conceive naturally due to a medical condition, and not for social reasons where young single women freeze their eggs to become pregnant later on in life.
Asked what the current thinking was among Muslim women in Malaysia on egg freezing, she said: “They haven’t caught up with the idea as it is very expensive. Egg freezing could cost a woman between RM15,000 and RM17,000.” Dr Natasha, who works at the KL Fertility Centre, said Muslim women who opted to freeze their eggs were usually those with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer.
“Muslim women wishing to freeze their eggs do it for medical purposes. But this is still a very small minority,” she said.
“These women are usually undergoing chemotherapy. They are referred by their doctor to a fertility expert to assist them freeze their eggs as an option should they later decide to have children.”
Asked whether there were other reasons for Muslim women seeking to freeze their eggs, Dr Natasha said she had helped freeze the eggs of Muslim women whose husbands could not produce enough sperm.
“What happens is that we freeze the woman’s eggs, and then give the husband a day or two to produce the sperm to fertilise them.” Dr Natasha encouraged women in general not to delay pregnancy, saying egg freezing was not a 100 per cent guarantee that they would conceive. “Egg freezing is an option, but the likelihood of the woman becoming pregnant is not 100 per cent guaranteed,” she said.
“If a woman wants to freeze her eggs, she is encouraged to do so in her early 30s while she still has enough eggs. In her 40s, it would be difficult.” Dr Natasha said a woman’s eggs could last five to 10 years after they were frozen.
“Therefore, it would be advisable for a woman who wants to delay pregnancy to see a gynaecologist and have a full health assessment to know about the fertility of her eggs.” — Bernama

Man with knife killed by Paris police on anniversary of Charlie Hebdo attacks
http://news.kuwaittimes.net/website/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/paris.jpg
(CNN)Paris, on edge after weathering a year of jihadist violence, faced a fresh scare Thursday as police shot dead a knife-wielding man on the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
An image of the ISIS flag, printed on paper, was found on the man's body, along with a handwritten note in Arabic from him claiming responsibility for the attack, the Paris prosecutor's office said in a statement. The office's anti-terror section is investigating.
The man, whose identity is not known, was shot as he attempted to enter a police station in the northern Paris neighborhood of Barbes, bearing a butcher's knife and yelling "Allahu Akbar," the statement said. He was carrying a fake explosive device, it said.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said at a press conference that investigations were underway to determine the identity of the attacker and his motivations.
"In a country where the threat level is extremely high, the police and gendarmerie are on the front lines," he said. "I'd like to thank them for their very great courage ... and their commitment to protect the French people."
The attempted attack took place at 11:30 a.m., the Paris prosecutor's office said -- a year to the minute since the Charlie Hebdo killings, the first of a spate of deadly jihadist attacks that have roiled the French capital over the past 12 months.
Did Paris attack orders come from Belgian operatives?
Did Paris attack orders come from Belgian operatives? 01:42
In those attacks, two gunmen killed 12 people at the offices of the French satirical magazine, which had angered Islamists for its irreverent approach to Islam and publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
Two more attacks -- one against a police officer and another that included a hostage-taking at a kosher supermarket -- brought the final death toll to 17.
On high alert against the jihadist threat since then, France suffered an even greater blow November 13 when 130 people were killed in Paris in coordinated attacks on a concert hall, bars, restaurants and a sports stadium. ISIS claimed responsibility.
In the aftermath, French President Francois Hollande declared that the country was at war with the terror group and set about strengthening international efforts to strike ISIS on territory it controls in Syria and Iraq.
Caroline Fourest, former journalist at Charlie Hebdo, responded like many Parisians with weary resignation to Thursday's attempt -- a reflection that such incidents had become "the new normal" in France over the past year.
"We know that ISIL or al Qaeda is encouraging (such attacks) in Europe, not only in France," she told CNN, using another name for ISIS. "So we're fortunate to see when those attacks are failing."
Europe was "just at the beginning" of weathering the threat from jihadism, she said.
"We know that it's going to be this way for the next years as long as the people who are giving orders from Syria are not disconnected."
She said the work of her former colleagues was badly missed on such occasions.
"We are missing them, but we're missing their cartoons too, to laugh a little bit."
In the aftermath of the shooting, a heavy security presence was in force at the scene near the police station in Goutte D'Or in the 18th arrondissement.
Officers advised residents to remain indoors and attempted to clear the area. At the Polyvalent de la Goutte d'Or, a school on the same street as the police station, students were confined in the building, school director Eric Denis told CNN.
Parisians, already wary on a highly sensitive anniversary, were left to speculate about the attacker's motivations: whether he was a lone wolf, a disturbed individual or possibly the first wave of the kind of coordinated attacks that struck in November.
Terrorism expert Jean-Charles Brisard, president of the Center for Analysis of Terrorism, noted the attack occurred in the 18th arrondissement, which could have a symbolic connection to the ISIS-claimed November attacks
The terror group's claim of responsibility for those killings referred to an operation in the 18th arrondissement, but none occurred there. That statement, along with a reference to eight attackers when there had only been seven, led to speculation an eighth jihadist had planned an attack in the district but backed out.
Regis Le Sommier, co-editor of Paris Match magazine, said he was inclined to think the latest attack was self-directed, rather than coordinated by the central command of ISIS or another terror group, since it took place on the anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo assault.
Since 9/11, he said, jihadists had not shown any particular interest in striking on the anniversaries of terror attacks despite the sensitivities around the dates. "That probably makes me think that he decided to do it on his own," he told CNN.
CNN's Niki Cook, Saskya Vandoorne, Greg Botelho, Kristie Lu Stout, Margot Haddad, Alexander Felton and Lindsay Isaac contributed to this report.

Jakarta blasts: 'A loud bang boom, it felt like an earthquake'
Fuck these Jihadis, hope they die a fucking painful death for nothing
JAKARTA: An eyewitness told reporters he had seen a “terrorist“ repeatedly shooting at bystanders, including a local journalist.
Ruli Koestaman, 32, who had been in a meeting in a nearby building, said the attack started around 10:35am (0335 GMT).
“Then I heard a loud bang, boom. It felt like an earthquake. We all went downstairs,” he said.
“We then saw that the Starbucks downstairs was destroyed too. I saw a foreigner -- westerner, a man -- with a mangled hand but alive.
“A Starbucks waiter then ran out with blood coming out of his ear. And I asked anyone hurt inside, he said yes, one. Dead already.
“Then everybody gathered and a terrorist appeared. He had a gun and started shooting at us and then at Starbucks. Then the police post... exploded.”
Koestaman said the attacker shot at a reporter who was at the scene.
“Police then started to shoot at the guy, who kept reloading his gun. And then there was another explosion. Then shootings.”
The blasts - at least six, according to eyewitnesses - were close to a shopping centre, the Sarinah.
Graphic photographs from the scene showed the bloodied bodies of what appeared to be two men in civilian clothes lying by the side of a road next to the wrecked police post.
Another body, also apparently male, dressed in black was pictured lying on his back in the centre of the street while another, almost naked, lay nearby.
Police initially said that the explosions were caused by bombs but later said the cause was unclear.
“This is not a suicide bomb. Based on witness account at the police post it was something that was thrown, whether it was a grenade or a bomb we still haven’t been able to confirm,” Charliyan told Metro TV.
He said at least one attacker, or perhaps two, fled afterwards on a motorbike.
The area is home to a number of embassies, including those of the United States, France and Spain. A number of United Nations agencies are also housed nearby.
Gunfire and explosions in Jakarta killed at least four people Thursday.
Witnesses said a powerful blast ripped through a Starbucks cafe in the city centre - near a cluster of embassies and United Nations offices - and a nearby police post was badly damaged.
At least one gunman fired repeatedly at bystanders, reloading his weapon as police flooded the streets, they said.
Badly mangled bodies were seen lying on the road as security forces moved in behind the cover of moving vehicles, with regular bursts of gunfire and warnings of a sniper in the area.
“Four people died, one police officer and three civilians,” national police spokesman Anton Charliyan told AFP.
“For now the gunfire has stopped but they are still on the run, we are afraid there will be more gunshots.”
Officers at the scene told AFP reporters to “get back” because there “is a sniper” on the roof of a building.
Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, suffered several major bomb attacks by Islamic radicals between 2000 and 2009, including the 2002 strike on the resort island of Bali that killed 202 people.
A security crackdown weakened the most dangerous extremist networks, leading to a long lull in large-scale strikes.
However, the emergence of Islamic State raised concern that Indonesians returning from Middle East battlefields could stage attacks on home soil. - AFP

‘Pakatan Harapan cannot defend Malays’, says Umno division chief
http://www.therakyatpost.com/news/2016/01/14/pakatan-harapan-cannot-defend-malays-says-umno-division-chief/
http://media.therakyatpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Syed-Ali-Alhabshee-L-2.jpg
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14, 2016:
The Pakatan Harapan opposition pact is incapable of defending the position of the Malays and Islam in the country, says a prominent Umno politician.
Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee also questioned whether the pact would be able to defend the Malays, claiming that PKR and DAP were parties that were responsible for triggering divisiveness among the Malays who were baited with racially-tinged political propaganda.
“Since its formation, PKR has not cared for the interests of the Malays while DAP is a racist party that has always doubted and challenged the position of the Malays in the country.
“The widening cracks among the Malays and Muslims is becoming more and more apparent with the Opposition’s political gaming which is driven by the lust for power with the playing up of racial and religious sentiments.
“PH does not have any relation to the struggle among Malays as the collective is a political pact that is too frail and wants to gain power,” he said in a blog posting today.
He said this in response to PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli’s statement at a forum in Petaling Jaya last night.
At the forum, the Pandan MP said the Opposition pact had pledged to continue placing the interests and position of the Malays and Islam at the centre of its cause after admitting that the matter was not given due attention during the last election.
Syed Ali, who is the Federal Territories Umno Liason Committee Secretary, added that Rafizi’s statement was merely a political gimmick that was meant to attract the attention of the general public.
He said this only meant that the Opposition had realised that the Malays had centred their support towards Umno as the ruling party.
“Since its formation, Umno had placed the position and future of the Malays as the core of its struggle while Islam would be defended.
“On the basis and confidence, Umno until today has been a large part of the way of living and culture for the Malays, Umno is the flesh and blood in the lives of the Malays.”

THE MALAY NOUVEAU RICHE: OF BLING BLINGS, GRAND PIANOS THAT NO ONE PLAYS & MILLION RINGGIT OFFERS
Watching these three videos, one will almost be nauseated by the flaunting of materialistic wealth. However, one must give it to them for having become millionaires through sheer hardwork in their businesses which cater to the millions of Malay women who give priority to their health and beauty.
I am talking of three millionaires (probably billionaires?) — Datuk Aliff Shukri of D’Herbs Terlajak Laris, Datuk Dr Hasmiza Othman (known as Datuk Vida) of Qu Puteh, Erni Dekritawati Yuliana Buhari (known as Rita Sosilawati) of Nouvelle Beauty — who have become social media sensations after videos of their wealth became viral.
Although for many non-Malays, these names are almost unknown. These are the biggest players in the Malaysian cosmetic industry with their health and beauty supplement which Malay women are swearing by.
Their products — comprising health supplements, jamu, anti-collagen and whitening products — are sold in thousands of small outlets nationwide.
In an Astro Awani programme titled Terlajak Putih Nampak, host Datuk Aznil Nawawi amazingly manages to get these three competitors to open up their personal mansions (more like palaces) to the public and display everything.
The videos are three parts, Part 1, Part II and Part III and are viral now in the social media.
http://www.theheatmalaysia.com/Documents/Article/513719/the%20louis%20vuitoon.jpg
As they rattle off brand names such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Piguet, Fendi, DSV and many others, the three claim that they did so to “encourage those who want to make it in the business world to emulate them”.
The host throughout the show digs at the three but they seemed unfazed and are more interested to show off their blings which not only dazzles but blinds.
The interesting thing however is the mentality with which they buy things. The worldly material that they cherish and boast of such as hundreds of branded handbags, shoes and rings may evoke envy of certain handbag collectors in the country.
They even buy stuff which they do not use. In one case, Aliff has a watch costing hundreds of thousands of ringgit which he could not even pronounce the brand.
“They have a list of most expensive watches and I will buy all brands on that list. It gives me satisfaction,” says Aliff.
Two of them - Aliff and Vida - have pianos costing RM100,000 in their houses but no one plays it.
“In the Malay dramas, the expensive houses have pianos, so I also bought one. But no one plays it,” says Aliff.
Also, Aliff stands out as the one more attached to his worldly stuff as he logs and keeps the price tags on all things he has bought in his RM22 million mansion - even the chandeliers.
Rita keeps insisting that she does not want to show everything and cooks herself with the help of three maids looking after her children. She also states that she goes to normal hair salons to get her hair done, to which the host quips she is a miser.
All of them, interestingly, dotes on their wealth and bling-blings but insists that they are also catering to their hereafter.
http://www.theheatmalaysia.com/Documents/Article/513719/roll%20royce.jpg
Aliff, without batting an eyelid, says he is one of the biggest zakat payers in the country, while Vida says she is working on setting up a religious school in the name of her two late sons who perished in a fire three years back.
Rita has her boys running around and says that she tries to live a simple life like others, to which the host quips “no one simply lives like this”.
Although the worldly materials which they have collected in their palaces are indeed “overpowering” to the senses of normal Malaysians, it proves the adage that in Malaysia, if one does work hard, one can be rich — no need to be corrupt or take from the poor. - http://www.theheatmalaysia.com/

Neighbour says Malaysian brothers who became suicide bombers were friendly

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — Two brothers, who were reported to have been involved in suicide bombings in Iraq, were known as friendly people.
Shocked by the news of their deaths recently, a neighbour, who declined to be named, said Mohamad Shazwan Mohd Salim, 31, and his brother Muhamad Shazani Mohd Salim, 28, would greet him when they bumped into each other.
“The older brother was affable, the younger brother was quite short-spoken, but still friendly, they would say hello whenever we met,” he told Bernama when met here, today.
Mohamad Shazwan, who carried out the mission on January 3, was one of seven suicide bombers to infiltrate a police training centre at the Speicher military base, about 160km north of Baghdad, Iraq.
Muhamad Shazani was reportedly killed in a suicide mission on September 18 last year in Bayji, northern Iraq.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein had confirmed the death of the two brothers and another suicide bomber, a 26-year-old Mohd Amirul Ahmad Rahim from Terengganu.
“I saw the news about the suicide bombers on TV, but never thought that they were my neighbours.
“No wonder I have not seen them for a long time,” said the neighbour, who recognised the brothers’ faces from the pictures in media reports.
He said the brothers had not shown any signs that they were involved in extremist activities ever since they knew each other more than seven years ago.
“In fact, they had never talked about Daesh or tried to influence me to join them.
“Their appearances were normal, dressing like normal people and so were their family members,” he said.
He believed that they were not influenced by their friends as there were not many people of their age who lived in the neighbourhood.
“They will not act that foolish. I think maybe they were sponsored to go there,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bernama checks on the family house found that it was locked. — Bernama

A Stricter Islam Displaces Old Ways in Malaysia
http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-MB183_SHAMAN_J_20160111170323.jpg
KUALA LUMPUR—Kelana Indra Sakti is one of Malaysia’s most successful shamans. Framed testimonials from his customers hang from his office walls. In the driveway of his house he keeps a stretch Mercedes-Benz limousine given to him by a grateful client. His name, meaning “Adventurer, Heavenly Magic,” was bestowed on him by one of Malaysia’s wealthy sultans.
Lately, though, Mr. Kelana has supplemented his consultations with readings from the Quran.
“People just expect it these days, so I do it,” said the 70-year-old shaman.
Islam in Malaysia, and Southeast Asia, is taking a more conservative turn. The Muslim faith, brought here by Arab traders hundreds of years ago, has coexisted for generations with Malay customs such as shamanism, other forms of traditional medicine and the country’s sizable Buddhist, Christian and Hindu communities.
But more recently, conservative Wahhabi doctrines, often spread by Saudi-financed imams, are redefining the way Islam is practiced and, for some, eroding the tolerance for which the country has been known.
Malaysian Drum Ceremonies Play On Despite Ban
In Malaysia, conservative Islamic authorities have banned drum ceremonies, used to help depression, because they are considered un-Islamic. But musicians say the drumming is a fundamental way of life.
Signs of change abound, from the Arab-inspired architecture of Malaysia’s administrative capital to the more widespread application of Shariah, the Islamic law code largely based on the Quran.
In the northeastern state of Kelantan, one of the most conservative parts of the country, lines in supermarkets are separated by gender, and men are banned from watching women’s netball tournaments. In December, Malaysia’s first Shariah-compliant airline began flying. The airline guarantees pork-free meals and bans alcohol, in line with Islamic teaching, and its flight attendants are required to cover their heads with the hijab.
Politicians, meanwhile, are now competing with each other to show off their Islamist credentials. The opposition Pan-Islamic Party strict adherence to Shariah has helped build its support in rural areas. And a government investment fund—under the control of the Muslim-oriented ruling party—was recently set up to pay for village leaders to make the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
The government’s recently established Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia writes sermons delivered in mosques nationwide each Friday, according to Malaysian analyst James Chin of the University of Tasmania.
Some Muslim academics and opinion leaders have begun to push back, saying the Arabization of Islam in the country has gone too far. Last year, Marina Mahathir, the daughter of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, complained that Malaysians were being taught formal rituals over the substance of the faith.
Malaysian security officials now worry that the changed climate is encouraging younger Muslims to turn to less tolerant forms of the faith. Security forces have detained over 120 people for suspected ties to Islamic State in the Middle East; scores of others have traveled to Syria to join it.
The cultural shift is complicating life for Malaysians holding on to shamanism and other old Malay customs.
At a recent medical conference at the National University of Malaysia, just south of Kuala Lumpur, doctors and psychologists gathered to hear how a variety of ailments can be helped with readings from the Quran.
“We’ve forgotten old Islamic treatments and how they can help,” said one of the participants, Hamidi Abdul Rahman, president of Professional Islamic Support and Nurture Group, a faith healing group.
In Kelantan state, the shift is more pronounced. The local Islamist government has outlawed traditional healing rituals, leaving musicians who lead them to practice under cover of darkness.
Performers such as 84-year-old Yar Daut shrug off what he says is a misplaced attempt to turn Malaysia into Arabia.
“What nonsense. We’ve been performing like this for over 200 years,” he said as he mopped sweat from his brow during a break from his band’s practice sessions.
Malaysian author Eddin Khoo says that in some cases traditional music and rituals are surviving precisely because they are being driven to the margins.
“The best way to make something appealing is to ban it,” Mr. Khoo said. “People are finding a way to keep it alive, whether the religious authorities go along with it or not.”
Mr. Kelana, who is Muslim, says he still has steady demand for his services, which usually involve counseling patients who have problems with their love lives or businesses.
“They still need my help, and it’s my job to assist them,” he said as two young women in Muslim head scarves waited for him at his clinic.
Some shamans, or bomohs in Malay, have gotten into trouble with the law, though. Religious authorities declared in April that a well-known bomoh, Ibrahim Mat Zin, deviated from Islamic teachings when he performed a rite to locate the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 with a pair of bamboo binoculars and a couple of coconuts.
Mr. Ibrahim, better known as Raja Bomoh Sedunia, or King of All the Bomohs in the World, denies doing anything wrong.
Mr. Kelana reckons it is better to bend with the wind, as he puts it. It helps that he doesn’t need to perform any special rituals to figure out what is wrong with his patients. He says he can see an aura surrounding a person, and this provides all the information he needs to suggest a course of treatment.
If his clients want him to perform some spells or incantations, as in the old days, or read from the Quran, well, he’s ready to do that.
“If it fits the part, why not?” Mr. Kelana said.
This pragmatic approach has won him a loyal following. He counts politicians on his client list. One patient, Nur Suzana, said she had traveled all over Indonesia and Thailand looking for shamans to deliver a cure when she said she was troubled by a jinn, or evil spirit.
“Only Kelana Indra Sakti could help me,” she said after her visit.
Some imams at Mr. Kelana’s local mosque are coming around to his methods, he said. They have begun referring worshipers to him for help with their problems. “I’ve become the last resort, but people are still coming,” he said.

Muslim Prostitute Marries Her Clients Just To Have Sex
https://www.naij.com/409369-muslim-prostitute-marries-her-clients-just-to-have-sex.html
The Sun UK reports that the 25-year-old belly dancer and prostitute, Fairuza, is raking in cash by marrying randy British Muslims for hour-long sex sessions then divorcing them straight afterwards so they can “avoid sinning”.
Fairuza performs the quickie service by reading a religious text in Arabic and takes the money as a “dowry”. Then once the deed is done, she divorces the two of them from their temporary marriage – “nikah mut’ah” – arrangement.
However, she told an undercover reporter that once the marriage is up the client must wait three months to request the service again. In a secret video filmed by the newspaper, she revealed:
“I married myself to you for one hour and agreed upon the money you’ve given me. It’s £300 and £50 for the marriage. If you want to renew it we can do it within three months. “Even though we do mut’ah, you must still use a condom. I don’t do it without condom. Some people think that if you do mut’ah you don’t have to use a condom.”
She is believed to be one of many Muslim women now offering the guilt-free service. On a hidden escort advertising website, Fairuza boasts to have “very beautiful natural 34DD breasts” and a “very pretty face with juicy lips”. Her Twitter account, which was recently deleted, had more than 85,000 followers, with which every follower could see her raunchy topless posts.
In the video she explains that some men are converting to Shia Islam to take advantage of the sin-free sex. She explains:
“I did it with one Saudi who converted to Shia Islam only so he could do mut’ah. He was in London for two months. I was his wife for the two months. I lived with him and I wasn’t allowed to be with any other man. He paid very good money. He is coming back next year and we’ll do it again.”

Malaysia to set up registry for child abusers, paedophiles
A sex registry for those who commit offences against children will be set up under the amendments of the Child Act 2001. Women, Family and Community Development Ministry policy division under-secretary Dr Waithcalla R. R. V. Suppiah said the list, to be supervised by the Welfare Department, will have details of pedophiles and convicts of various offences including rape. "Employers may refer to the list before hiring prospective staff, for instance, those running a nursery. "We will know if the person if found to have a clean record without having any offences against children," she told a media briefing at the National Social Institute, here. She said members of the public will also be able to check with the department if they have any suspicions over some individuals on social media in order to protect them from pedophiles. Minister Datuk Seri Rohani
Abdul Karim said the briefing was to gather feedback from media practitioners after an engagement process with various parties including parents, teachers, non-governmental organisations and even children. "The amendments, which cover about 60 to 70 per cent, were tabled for the first reading on Dec 2 and we hope to table and debate in the next session in March," said Rohani. If passed by Parliament, the Act will see a hefty fine of up to RM50,000 and a prison sentence of 20 years meted out to those found guilty of child abuse. Under the present Act, child abuse is punishable with a fine of no more than RM10,000 and imprisonment of up to 10 years.
The amendments also include provisions for Community Service Order (CSO) for those found guilty of abuse, neglect and abandonment of children as well as those leaving a child without appropriate supervision. The amendment included a section dealing with the establishment of a National Council for Children to advise and make recommendations to the government on issues relating to the care, protection, rehabilitation, development and participation of children at the national, regional and international levels. The council's role include developing programmes and strategies to educate society on the rights and dignity of children.

Islamic Fatwa Says It’s Okay To Wipe Your Butt With Toilet Paper

The Directorate of Religious Affairs in Turkey, among the wealthiest and most advanced Muslim countries, has issued a fatwa declaring that Muslims can, in fact, use toilet paper without violating the commands of Allah.
However, the Islamic legal pronouncement underscores, adherents of the religion should use primarily use water as opposed to any specialized paper product to cleanse their private parts.
“If water cannot be found for cleansing, other cleaning materials can be used,” the fatwa from this week reads, according to the Hurriyet Daily News, an English-language newspaper out of Istanbul.
“Even though some sources deem paper to be unsuitable as a cleaning material, as it is an apparatus for writing, there is no problem in using toilet paper,” the document explains
The broader religious issue has to do with the definition of “clean” and “unclean” for prayer purposes under Islam.
Traditional Islamic doctrine holds that adherents must use water to purify themselves after using the bathroom, notes the Daily Mail.
Also, no talking or reading while you sit on the toilet, and faithful Muslims should arrive in the bathroom using the left foot. They should exit using the right foot while expressing this prayer: “Praise be to Allah who relieved me of the filth and gave me relief.”
Turkey’s religious bureaucracy also issued another fatwa allowing hand sanitizers and other hygiene products containing alcohol as an ingredient.
Consuming alcohol remains forbidden for dedicated Muslims.
Devout, practicing Muslims — both male and female — should strive to sit down when they urinate under centuries-old Islamic law.
It is not forbidden for men to stand up to pee, explains IslamQA. At the same time, it is “Sunnah” — the right and desirable way of life — for both men and women and to pee sitting down.
Aisha, one of Muhammad’s wives, was reported to have said: “Whoever tells you that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] used to urinate standing up, do not believe him. He only ever used to urinate sitting down.”
The reason was a practical one: “it reduces the risk of any drops of urine splashing up onto him.”
Under an Islamic code known as Qadaahul Haajah, devout Muslims should also relieve themselves in private, not facing the direction of Mecca and never looking at their genitals.
Also, for all bathroom usage, adherents are supposed to use their left hands and plenty of water to clean themselves. They can also use stones for wiping. Three stones for wiping is ideal.
