Ummm... From what I remember, shingles is actually a kind of herpes but it is caused by the chicken pox virus. The excruciating pain is due to the virus attacking the nerve cells.

People who recovers from chicken pox will sometimes get shingles when the chicken pox virus mutates. But not everyone who has contracted chicken pox will move on to develop shingles. It normally occurs to older people or triggered by stress (and some other reasons, can't remember). But it is definitely not via sexual means.

There is a medication that cures it pretty fast though it's a bit expensive. But you do recover within a week or two.
