Reputation system update

Reputation points can no longer be awarded/deducted in the "Newbie Issues/Say "Hi"/Testing" section. Previously, the reputation system was activated in ALL sections.

Minimum reputation points in order to gain first point of reputation power is now 25. (was 15)

Posts older than 2 days cannot be awarded or deducted. There used to be no such limit.

It's not a flaw. It's a window period of 2 days to vote either way for each post.

To vote for the PAP, workers party or SDP, you get only 8 hours every 5 years. In this forum, you get 48 hours per post and you can vote once every 24 hours all year round.

Zapping is already given only half the weightage of adding. I see no reason to bias the system any further in favour of point additions.

Got a gut feeling lots of clones is 25 points & below.
There are tons of them. I can spot them a mile away. They are the ones who post 10 "test" messages in the newbies forum while they are still under moderation and then use their clone nicks with exactly 15 reputation points to "up" their new nicks to 15 points.

Eventually, they will use the same trick to up their rep to "25". When that happens, I'll change the minimum to something higher or revamp the system with a new algorithm.

I can't wipe out abuse. However, I can make things more difficult for the cheaters.

Especially in FR. We will have to up him within 2 days & we can never tell if it's genuine or fake. By the time, we got the contact, went down to up the gal, come back here. You don't have to keep zapping people who post fake FRs. All you have to do is to reply to the thread and explain why and how the FR is a fake.

At the end of the day, what keeps this forum going is FRs and other positive contributions. This is the primary reason for having a forum. The reputation system comes a distant second. This new system is designed to reduce the use of the reputation system while encouraging positive contributions.

Members who have contributed positively will be encouraged to post more. Members who post crap will be discouraged from posting more crap.

Is this the perfect system?... of course it isn't. No system will meet all expectations and please all members. However, it is better than no system at all and I feel it is better than the previous system. Ultimately, time will tell.

Rubbish. There were loads of FRs long before I introduced the reputation system. Even during the good old Delphi days, the daily dose of FRs were sufficient to satisfy all the horny cheongsters of Singapore.

I think the new changes are good. As boss says upping the limit would deter cloners somewhat.

May I suggest immediately upping it to 50 points before getting rep power. 50 points is a serious disincentive for cloning becuase of the gargantuan effort required to achieve it - then you only get 1 rep power. A cloner would need to manage a stable of 40 nicks to keep things going. Only the most dedicated cloners would stick with the plan. It should not have too much impact on genuine bros who post using one nick most of the time.

The downside is that there may not be enough brudders with 50 plus rep points to keep newbies up and coming.

Its my suggestion, but it is the boss choice.

But why not accord zapping same weighthing as upping? This might result in less frivilous posts.... And to ensure that there is responsible zapping impose a time out of 48 hours for those who zap cf iwth 24 hours for those who up points. Views anyone?

So if you have a good post, someone miss the 48hrs window and you have nothing to contribute for the next few days they may just forget about upping you leh.... some people don't know how to use search function...

I think bro ph1970's reference of fake FRs was the few thread that say they have lobang and ask bros to up them the threadstarter points keep going up until 4 or 5 days later (waited cos threadstarter in moderation) no bros managed to make contact realized it is a con job everyone came in to zap the threadstarter till kingdom come. I think bro ph1970's point is in such a scenario we won't be able to wait more than 2 days for verification. Easier to cheat points and get away with it?

Actually for fake FRs who request for samsters to up threadstarter first and get contact, all samsters should wait for senior's FR first before they all cheong for contact and up threadstarter even before verifying.

It is bcos some samsters are so kiasu or chee hong that the quickly up threadstarter to get contact first. Then by time realise fake, too late liao, clone nick would hv been able to up his real nick or nicks .... depending on how fast fellow samsters can zapped threadstarter down below power level, he would hv been able to up his real nicks ....

Yup, have to agree. Without FRs and other relevant information the main reason in having the forum would be lost. I have to admit though, the rep points are a nice "icing on the cake" as you feel you've been rewarded for the effort you put in. All i wanted to show is that the 48hours rule may create more unnecessary posts rather than cut them down.... without the rule you could have just up his good post and no need to ask him to post something right?

This is wat u can do..PM bro dannywee75 and inform him of ur good intention. Ask him to reply ur thread by posting at SBF and PM u back simultaneously in order to up him. No choice but u have to log in at least alternate day. Alot of hassle I understand....until such time hopefully BOSS would consider extending the rather short 48hrs grace period.

I look at my User CP, notice that there are "grey" cards (mass zapping) but yet my points keep dropping. Shouldn't it be red card ??? :confused:

No I'm afraid you can't. You need to have a minimum of 25 points to gain 1 rep power before you can up people. Do post more FR and contribute to the forum, along the way you will be appreciated. Points are not easy to earn and it takes a great amount of respect to fellow samsters and effort.

Thank for your prompt reply. Your explanation given is very clear.:D In my case, the bro who zap me supposed to have a power of 6 in order to deduct -3 pts, but, most unfortunate he has a power of 4 only.

I just assumed that additional deduction of -1 pts is due to system glitch. But this glitch is not cause by SBF but triggered by the underwater cable repair bro. He must have short-circuited the cable at that time when bro zap me. So -2 pts plus -1 pt for glitch = -3 pts.:( Wonder bro sam can provide some refund like those gst rebate for foreigners.

Minimum reputation points in order to gain first point of reputation power is now 25. (was 15)

Posts older than 2 days cannot be awarded or deducted. There used to be no such limit.

Actually, from what I see... one of the easier way to earn reputation points is to share your sexual experiences in the Adult Discussion section. Or post a FR after you've tried a girl, some bros would actually raise your point based on your FR.

Wow! Finally finished reading all 14 pages. I think the points system is great.

Agree with some bros on leaving names who up/zap and also how much they up/zap by. Maybe get this computer generated so bros can't fake how much they up/zap. Those who up will be rewarded and better appreciated for their generosity. And those who zap can further explain should those kena-zapped bros still be in the dark. I've been zapped many times but I truly only feel respect for that one guy who admitted to it.

Like boss said, bros here can also PM. Seems it's only used to ask for contacts now :( Anyway, I'm good with the system. Maybe another suggestion is more moderators?

You just answered your own question. Bros want to up you but cannot do so because you don't post often. Now the rule is Bros can only give pts to a message that is posted 48 hours ago MAX. Beyond that, the system won't allow them to give pts.

That is what I think the intent is. Unfortunately I got zapped a few times recently for posting a FR because there are others who dislike the content. Makes me feel a bit sad that I would get whacked for sharing my humble experiences. :(

But I do noe some frens n buddies here who treasure it like their lives. They feel it's a mark of their seniority.

And I do have one suggestion, is it possible for a person wif multiple accounts to be limited to one rep boost or deduction per month? I mean, can the server tell it's the same IP address that boosted or deducted points from a certain samster?

Or better yet.. just make the person who upped or downed ur rep known only to you. That way, it might make ppl refrain from anyhow deducting ppl's rep points.. and also let those who got upped, know de exact id of those.. so as to return favour.. if they so see fit.. or just to say thanx in a pm.

Hope this can be considered... I mean.. almost all are grown-ups here rite? Can take the reality of ppl not liking ur post and zapping you, rite? (hopefully sol la)

Jus finish reading the Reputation system.

Its must had gone through quite a few changes cos its very interesting in how it encourages one in getting points.

basically from what i gather...... is you must be actively participating in a conversation. plus the quality of the post must be true to goodness and not through any ill gotten agenda. (pls pardon if i am wrong)

Its a rather diplomatic system cos it allows any person a fair chance in expressing their opinions about you so in that way you will get many pespectives in how anyone thinks of you.

I think been able to identify who deduct your points is not necessary becos most likely the victim will seek vengence if the comments received were not kind.

Overall its good stuff, many thanks to the moderators in accepting my application.

Please pardon me for voicing my part of my story. As you can see, I have only 15 points now not to mention my points was just 18 yesterday. I had been zapped by unknown people for putting up my FRs just because they have different opinion about the gal concerned. I thought putting up FRs are to share each others' experience and serves as a guideline for the others.

I find that some fellow brothers here tend to abuse their "power" in zapping people in anyway they like. Imagine some of the comments that they give when they zapped. I believe it has no relevance to evn zapping people at all.

I had my initial 10 points deducted and I had tried hard again to slowly climb up the "ladder". Hope that the situation will turn for the better.

Lastly, I am not trying to KPKB (as denoted by others) but to bring up my point and my side of story...

If you get 25 pts, you will get rep power of 3 and not 1 becos you join in July 2005. You get 1 rep power for every year of membership and part thereof.

Your rep power should be 3 now but it is 0 becos you have less than 25 pts.

The same happens to Bro 3pots above. His rep power was 0 one week ago when his posts was below 10.
Now his rep power is 2.

You will get rep power of 1 immediately if you get 25 pts. No need to wait few months later. The requirement is 25 pts and 10 posts. Rep power depends on your years of membership. You will get 2 rep power in July 2008.

If your membership is
