An SMS reply to a query if hotel room charges are additional. 'Cd' refers to confom. (Below) A UW contact meeting Michelle near the hotel.
In an attempt to elude the law, some pimps have taken their prostitutes off the streets and put them online.

They advertise their illegal services on the Internet, taking advantage of its anonymity, and may think they have found a foolproof way of avoiding arrest.

But, says a lawyer and former police officer, their ploy is unlikely to be foolproof. (See report on page 4.)

A reporter from the Chinese lifestyle magazine UW went undercover after a source linked him to a cyber-pimp's website set up last December. It was listed in the 'interest groups' category on a popular website.

Interested members had to register their particulars with a specific group to gain access to its discussions or websites. But fake particulars could be entered.

Once 'membership' was approved, a member could view photographs of foreign women posted online.

The New Paper also found six such operators pimping online.

Listed next to their photographs were the charges, up to $200 for a 90-minute session.


One of the websites had the pictures of 14 foreign women in seductive poses.

Accompanying the photographs were details such as each girl's name, height, age and vital statistics.

There was also a short introduction that read: 'The girls are sweet and hot in bed. Want to be served? Contact us for a booking now.'

The fee for each booking was $120 for a 90-minute session, including hotel room charges, to be paid to the woman afterwards.

Following instructions on the website, the UW reporter sent an SMS to the handphone number listed and was asked to revert with details such as the date, time, name of hotel and room number.

He told The New Paper: 'Every arrangement was communicated via SMS.'

On the appointed day, he roped in a contact to meet Michelle, the girl of his choice, at a budget hotel on Balestier Road.

The contact deliberately waited at the hotel entrance so that he could meet her before she checked into the room.

They recognised her from the photograph posted online.

In person, however, she looked like any other young woman, in a white sleeveless blouse and jeans.

The contact asked Michelle to accompany him for a meal at a nearby coffeeshop, saying he was hungry.

'She appeared to be reluctant and somewhat anxious,' said the contact, 'but she did not refuse to do so.'

She did, however, constantly remind the man in Mandarin that their appointment was only for 90 minutes and suggested that they head back to the hotel.

But he said he wanted to talk to her and they did not go to the room.

Michelle told him that she was from Guangzhou, China.

She claimed to hold a student pass to study English in Singapore.

She had arrived here about two months earlier after paying a pimp syndicate about $20,000 to arrange her journey and secure a student pass.

She had borrowed the money from loansharks.

Michelle claimed she had to help her family pay off mounting debts.

She was earning only about $200 a month in her former job as a lingerie sales promoter in China.

In Singapore, she could earn up to $7,000 a month, she claimed.

Of the $120 charged for each session, Michelle would get about $70.

Except for the few days when she had her periods, business was brisk. She had an average of five customers each day, about 100 in three weeks of work.

Still, $5,000 from what she earned during this time would go to the loansharks, with another $1,000 going to clear the family's debts.

I have some info which might be useful to all bros.
