Survey finds that Singaporeans are more dissatisfied with their quality of life and level of democracy
Published on 2018-06-03 by Kwok Fangjie
In a survey that was conducted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and released last Thursday (31 May), Singaporeans felt that they have a decreased sense of achievement, less democratic rights and are less satisfied with their overall quality of life when compared to previous years.
Interviewing 1,503 Singaporeans aged 15 and above, two NUS Associate Professors - Siok Kuan Tambyah and Tan Soo Jiuan – found that there was marked unhappiness over the current wage levels and the cost of living.
Out of 25 aspects about living in Singapore, those surveyed were most unhappy with the affordability of cars, while the affordability of properties, cost of living, ratio of locals to foreigners, and affordability of healthcare ranked as the other key areas of concern.
Separately, respondents were least satisfied with their household income, jobs and the standard of living.
“Increasingly (over the years), they are upset about the affordability of cars and properties, so you can surmise from there that they are concerned with the issue,” said A/P Tan.
Singaporeans felt that they cannot criticize the government and have limited free speech
Singaporeans were also unhappy over their democratic rights.

The thing about why all these surveys and the polling results differ so much is honestly quite simple. Why does the government continue to provide good incentives to foreigners whereas treat their own local citizens like shit and yet still win at all the elections? It's simple. Think about it if you're a foreigner. If the gahment give you goodie, would you vote them in or out. As such, LHL keep aiming to bring in more influx of foreigners basically because of that. Combine that number with the number of civil servants such as government personnel who fear that if they vote for the opposition, may affect their career path. There you have it. That's why PAP will always win no matter what. It's simply meritocracy only in name at this point

It actually isn't funny. Because the reality is Singapore's opposition parties are too fragmented to be effective. And besides WP I doubt there is actually any talent in the other parties that can be on par with PAP at all.
What to do? Even Low Thia Kiang also didn't dare to position WP as a potential government in waiting. He's only content with second place as Co driver. With this sort of mentality do you expect Singaporeans to trust in you and believe you're up to task? Very easy to criticise on the sidelines, but not easy to actually govern and manage stuff themselves!

I had a dream a wonderful dream. 50 born locals ang mo also no problem. So long as born in this red dot. We have in this island, all the way to Africa. Singing a Mandarin song from the 80s.
A better tomorrow.
The VIPs will be frighten, very frighten. Our founding fathers created a system where they are time flame.

The Americans did it
The neighbour across the straits did it
But SG just have griping citizens like u n me
Becos there is simply no viable opposition
What has LTK did to better the lives of SG?
if he has grand practical idea, i am sure the ruling party cannot rebutt but all proposals are full of holes...sigh...
Co-driver..not even close...
The dispair of citizens or the disparity which neither the ruling party or the opposition has an answer...
1.Foreign talent : why are white collars true blue sgporeans out of job but so called lacklustre FTs can because we are flooded by MNCs..
2. Old men n women bending their back pushing carton cart in hot weather, selling tissue papers
3.Ex-con selling key chains
My 2 cents solutions
1. Ministry of labor should have sg cv match companies vacancies...priority for locals...look at google and facebook for data mining ...can even impact presidential election..
Talk about the data age!
2. There is no solution except with heart. Staff from Ministry of welfare should seek them out and provide a comfort lodging. Enforce law to bring offspring to take care of them..
3. Don't prison provide learning and skill training? Cleaners..Technicians...again ministries can coordinate to help...welfare, home affair, workforce...

Nothing to do with the opposition. I will vote for a monkey if it stands for election. After all, a monkey is still better than white bastards.

I had to shared this. Back into the 90s where I grew up in Commonwealth Close the mp was Jek. I cannot remembered much because he seldom appear at community events. My father was one of his supporter. I tried to recall mine father stories.
Jek was Chinese educated and, he was the student leader of then NTU, he was the right person selected by the old man to control the educated Chinese in this country and Malaysia.
A good speaker who was anti ang mo, he encouraged people who worked at ang mo companies to create troubles. Go on strikes are necessary. 30 yrs at Queenstown I think only two GE because no opp dare to challenge the founding father. Thats a fact!
Only in Wednesday news, Otelli said he was one of the father who signed the declaration. I was touched because born locals should be proud our founding fathers had fought for our state. They took down UK and Malaysia.
I had put in the spirits of our founding fathers in office politics. Their fearless in managing works, and I put Singaporean first. Of course new citizens who do the Spore ways I embrace them.

we are cogs in the machine. the middle and lower income will work until die, then when we die, the next generation will replace us as the new cogs
the middle and lower incomes are in a neverending cycle of 'work until die'

That is their face-saving claim to obscure the fact that high cost of living in Sinkapore which these very same folks 100% voted for in every GE so now they cannot afford to relax and be bored to death at home.
Gave up on these folks long time ago. No hope for Sinkapore with them being the majority.

My friend! You miss a spot. Look harder at employement market, you will see foreign uncles and aunties working relax jobs. Of course almost all are PR and new citizens. There are better and much relax jobs in blue collar market.
I too had a 71 yrs old colleague, new citizen from ROC. He has the most easy jobs in my dept. Never will be review his true identity, he go around telling new staffs to respect him. Me go around telling the new colleague not to be fool by him, he is never PG. He is a new citizens.
Morale of my story. We need to change. Some of the policies were wrong, back then our founding fathers did not see these.
