Anybody here knows why there is a need for mummy for KTVs?
Issit necessary to have mummy in KTV? Job of mummy is to take care of girls and also take care of customers. If girl too long butterfly, can complain to mummy and gal can come back quickly. However some mummy just appear less than 20 mins throughout the session and come collect tip which I think is a waste of time. I am trying to compare to an insurance agent. If I consult an agent, agent will help me explain to buy the plan so that I can understand and make better informed decision. Hence agent receive commission. But this mummy system, they dont value add anything. They should make it optional for customers to choose mummy or not. Yes I know some places got no mummy but not a lot of places with no mummy, so limited. They should open this option to joints with mummy for customers to opt for mummy or not. If girls disappear long, I will tell the girl i not taking her anymore. Dont need go through mummy. I think mummy is just a stupid system they come out with to carrot head guys like us. Whats bad is those mummy u cant play or touch them (especially those pretty ones). Worst is those you book mummy but on the day you come, end up is just random malaysian guy saying he is the "mummy" WTF.
Ok next is waiter tip. I think its unnecessary also to give tips to waiter. Somemore got 3 or 4 of them during bill time expect u to give them $10 each. Worst is your girl will pressure you to tip them and will lose mood one. During bill time these waiters will pretend to give warm towel to you and they expect tips from you. What I will do is I will always bring my own wet tissue and put on the table. If they offer me, I reject and point to my wet tissue. KTV joints already charge us 10% service charge. Why is there a need to give tips to waiter? When I go eat Swensens I pay the 10% service charge in the bill but I didnt tip the waiter. This should apply to KTVs too.
What do you guys think?

If you bother to build a good relationship with your regular KTV mummy, the tip you pay her is well worth it.
A good mummy can steer you away from a girl who is known to be a bad choice, and once she knows your "taste" she will look out amongst the batch of available girls which are the ones worth recommending to you. She will also tell you which girls are "taken" - so don't bother trying to chase those and which ones have "supporters" hence not available for short-time. Mummy is also generally well-informed on her girls' history, and she will know which girls have what type of bad habits - some do drugs, some like to fuck raw, some girls specialize in juggling multiple boyfriends. Not all Mummies side the girl over the client. Mummies can tell, which girls are likely to stay long (very few) and which ones are likely to milk the most out of their stint here, and fuck off back to VN or to other faraway lands. To a Mummy, loyal customers are extremely valuable because Mummies inevitably switch KTVs at some point in their careers, so she needs her loyal clients to support her wherever she goes.
Your analogy is that of an insurance agent, I think if you treat them right they can be like your very well-connected Private Banker.
When I was still a regular in Supreme/Orchard K, I never needed to ask for a lineup - my regular Mummy at each joint would have already shortlisted the girls and only the pre-screened ones will come into the room for me to choose. If I indicated a preference for a girl whom the Mummy thinks is "dangerous" (i.e. has a reputation of cheating clients, always disappearing even during booking, or has a "boyfriend" who tends to get jealous), she will not hesitate to nudge me gently to choose another. They have their ways, and it depends very much on what they think of you as a client.
Obviously this level of service isn't available for $50/$100. You need to slowly build a rapport with the Mummy, and understand her situation in the KTV. During times when I understand a Mummy is slightly below her monthly quota, I will buy bottles to keep even though I still have some unopened.
A Mummy can extend your bottle expiry, so you don't have to worry. I always find that a good Mummy in every KTV is very very useful and well worth the tip that they get for each booking
Obviously if you feel the pinch in giving Mummy $100 for each outing, my advise to you is - don't chiong KTV and maybe try to earn more first.
Cheers

It's also important to understand, that girls choose the Mummy career path usually because they are already sick and tired of being groped by strange guys every day. Almost always, being a Mummy means she gets a big pay cut and also a quota (usually a min number of bottles to sell, or a revenue target per month for the "team"). So they view KTV as a business - so choose what kind of customer you want to be to her
Treating a KTV Mummy like she is still a KTV Girl is probably the fastest way to put yourself on her "lousy customer" list. Yes I heard of some KTV Mummy who still "go out" with clients - a few of my chiong buddies have fucked Mummy Sammy when she was still in Singapore, for example. But these type of Mummies are usually the exception - after all there is an inherent conflict of interest if a Mummy competes for the same client as her girls.
Re: Waiter tips - see my above post on how you treat your Mummy. If you are a good customer, the Mummy will "control" the waiters for you. You don't have to control them yourself. More likely than not, you pissed off your KTV Mummy because you wanted to grope her, so she left you at the mercy of the multitude of waiters all waiting to take $10/pop during Bill time.
Well deserved, if you ask me.

Fully appreciate your views - I do not chiong anymore so I heard that the scene has now gone from bad to worse....
I usually stick to the older Mummy because as veterans of their field, they have a long-term view of the business and they make it a point to stay in touch. A few have become my FB friends, visited their houses - seen their children and watched the kids grow up through the years.

''Last time" Mummy is the ones with the girls.. No mummy no girls. As you've already mentioned meant to discipline and "teach'' the girls about customer service. They also provide backend support like visa issues, accommodation issues, and to also take care of the girls. These days the mummy more like friends than actually "mummy'' who graduated from working girls to become mummy.
As for waiter tips, again ''last time" is for them to NOT come in to provide services and to "guard the door" while you experience customer service in the room. However you only tip those who come in and "drink" and actually service your room. Those you never see before, just ignore.

My personal approach to waiters - I know 3 or 4 who are regulars by name, and they know mine too. I chat with them during their smoke breaks sometimes, ask for their recommendation on which items on the menu are nice to eat - light-hearted stuff. Waiters usually really appreciate it that a customer actually pays some attention and bother to remember their names.
If a strange waiter comes to me expecting a tip, I will ask him who he is and what is my name. This usually catches them off-guard, and I say firmly that I already chose the waiters who are supposed to serve my room beforehand - I don't recognize you so maybe you went to the wrong room. And I will rattle off the waiters' names who are supposed to serve my room.
They usually disappear quite quickly after that.

Girlfriend working as waitress in ktv. Salary only $1100 from 4pm to 3am.
Always hear complain about stingy customer and about the boleh land waiter eating tips when dividing the tips after work. Always short change her.
Of course I hope she get more tips :)
Best is to tips individually and let the waiter or waitress keep their own tips rather the tips on bill because the waiter who bring the bill eat tips also.

I totally agree. More experienced mummies are worth it. They value relationship more. I have had mummies who will buy me drinks, recommend girls to me. And I do not give tons of tips, I am only known to be a more easy going customer but not one whom you can take advantage of.

Nice. I also have quite a lot of waites' contact in my wechat. They change joints they will inform me. Ask me go take a look.
Those whom I don't know come asking for tips, I will politely tell them next time.

Totally agreed. Mummy is waste of money esp those that bring their assistant and expect us to pay them also. Mummy derserve most 20 esp they got a cut in the drinks ordered and sometimes girls tip if u booked. And I don't need to see the mummy after I selected the girls. Waiter we can choose to give only one haha. How to make this happen? Haha I fully support.

Cheers
I had never meet mummy like what u described. Most are more protective to the girls then you. Esp those PRC mummy keep pushing girls to u when u reject them. I never give him though. Come introduce me Ur mummy that will make me feel worth the 100.

All due respect, haven't read such a load of simp horseshit in a while. It's not our job to 'build a relationship' with them. This is a fucking service industry, it's their job to service US. You ever hear of a client needing to service their personal banker instead of the other way round? Ridiculous. Pls have some self-respect and have some standards. When money is involved it is automatically a transactional relationship, they are not your friends, they are your service provider and they should be held to a higher standard. All the extra 'benefits' you listed should be BASELINE. That's just their job. They should just do it, and if they don't, they shouldn't be paid.

If you have been chionging enough, u would know that if a girl does not return to your room, u can get the mummy to control her... if the mummy cant control her. cancel the girl and dont even bother to tip the girl, let the mummy settle it.
thats the way for mummies to control their girls and thats why you tip a mummy.
as for waiters i have never tipped more than $10 for waiters for my entire room. whenever i go to KTV, most of the time, I do not tip waiters. there is written rule that u must tip a waiter. just look at them firmly and say NO. end of story. and of course, reject the wet wipes and wet towels.
if your girl or the mummy asks u to tip the waiters, very simple. tell your girl the tip will come out from the tips that you are suppose to give her. see if that shuts her up. 90% of the time the girl will shut up. even the mummy.

If you want good service and build relationship, u have to spend enough. Truth is most of us don't have enough firepower to support their business.
If u spend alot and still give bad service, then why keep going and hoping?

Pls lah. The mummy you referring to is from 10 to 15 years ago.
Nowadays is non existent already.
Compare apples to apples. Not apples to oranges.
My young friend. Thank you for your comment, we are in a sex forum as anonymous nicks and we are all here to share. So let me reply in that spirit. You are probably not used to having others show you, how shallow your viewpoint has been. We all learn, and were all young and foolish before.
Many KTV mummies work for a lot longer than 10-15 years. It is usually the final career choice for many ex-KTV girls who have chosen to settle down in Singapore for the longer term. If you bother to really sit and talk with the mummy, perhaps on a quiet night where you are her only room, then she will be more likely to open up. Generally mummies are excellent (and super quick) judges of character. They have fucked enough, got fucked many many times by many many guys before and they usually know every trick in the book of their young charges. The ones who stay long are generally not cheats, they know not that earning short-term money but a bad reputation is not the way to go. If you choose a mummy who is here only on Spass and with no ties to Singapore, then you're probably in for trouble (and you deserve it)
Leverage on a Mummy's connection and knowledge, not despise it. That's my approach, and my viewpoint to why Mummies are necessary and they are well worth building a relationship with. Assuming you can afford it, of course (which, as I have said earlier - maybe you just need to focus on your career and earn a bit more first)
If your choice of Mummy is based on how hot she looks and whether you can grope her, maybe score a free fuck and expect "service" for your $100 then I think you need to learn (and earn) a bit more. Or maybe stick to the cheaper, lower-end no-mummy KTVs where the girls will regard your $100 more highly.
The best mummies are usually older, and they either have PR/SC status, or at the minimum an LTVP with some Singaporean kids. These types of mummy think long-term, they know that a customer that becomes their friend is the best thing that can happen to them. These mummies are around, and I dare say there will be more than one such mummy in every KTV. More often they not they have graduated to management, so as the "head mummy" and not the young, "small mummy" who still oozes sex appeal and barely graduated from sucking customers cocks just a few months ago.
So maybe, next time you go to a new KTV use not head and not your dick when choosing a KTV mummy.
Your profile and reputation in your existing KTVs are probably already "burnt". Many KTVs do not allow customers to switch mummies, even if the customer explicitly asks for it. Because "snatching customers" no matter how justified is the easiest way to start turf wars (which are always bad for the business)

Well said. However it seems like the fast food culture has taken over. Additionally it also seems like the mummies are getting younger, which in my opinion means less mature and in for the quick buck. Hence they only care about money.

Hi penguin23 fellow old bird... I appreciate your sharing of experience and giving very clear examples in proper paragraphs.. However maybe u have retired from the scene for quite some time so there is a bit of a dissociation from the current scene and it is really difficult for the younger ones to relate to.. The mamis that we experienced and spent alot of time and money to build relationship with have almost all disappeared from the scene u can call it retirement u can call it fade from the scene or you can call it no longer fit the current scene especially a viet infested environment. 95% of the mamis nowadays r the girls just become mami types so its really hard for the current chiongsters to relate to or even get the type of mami u r referring to...

I am not familiar with viet scene, but for PRC scene, there are definitely good mummies around. Although I do observe post covid, there are more and more younger mummies and managers or assistants around.

I am a little free this Sunday afternoon - the kids have gone off with their mum, it is raining heavily and there's not much to do. My Viet gf is on her way back to Singapore, and she knows her pussy is going to get hammered by me tonight.
For those who understand some Viet, there will literally be vãi lồn tonight.
For those who have no Viet knowledge, don't bother Googling, you won't get it. Ask a native Viet (preferably a guy and not a KTV girl) what this literally means. Not the figurative translation, but the literal one.
So, that's my long-winded way of saying - I have a little time to kill and maybe give a measured reply, to your rather impetuous response.
If you have ever come close to a private banking (PB) relationship, you will understand that the ability of any PB to recommend an appropriate solution, is not just dependent on his/her understanding of your financial situation, but also your understanding of the PB's background. All PBs have inherent bias, due to their educational and personal background and will therefore have a certain "style" and tendency to recommend certain solutions more than others. It is obviously a given, that the more honest you are with a PB, the more likely you get a tailored and appropriate response.
A relationship with a Mummy is a little less complicated, but the baseline considerations are the same. Every customer tips her, and every one who buys a bottle from her helps to fulfil her quota. But how do you differentiate yourself as her favourite client, even though you may not be the one with the most money? That requires a slightly more thoughtful approach than just throwing $100 or $1000 notes around - Mummies and KTV girls alike are all human, and your transactional approach to the situation is probably driven by tight finances or pure laziness on your part to do (and get back) a little more.
For many chiongsters here who aren't all that flush with cash, maybe I can share some "old tricks" to getting a bit more service from your KTV Mummy. Some of these "tricks" should still work, the value of human compassion tends to be timeless and slightly less prone to inflation.
1. Take some time to understand what is the Mummy's relative position in the KTV's Mummy hierarchy. A "small mummy" drawing a salary plus commission usually has a personal quota. Those who are even more junior and just started out take no "bottle commission" and lives purely on tips (you want to avoid these new Mummies, although they are the ones who are the sexiest and most likely to go fuck with customers). The "Big Mummy" usually has a team quota of at least a couple of hundred bottles. They don't usually pay attention to individual customers, unless you are a seriously big fish or a shareholder in a new club where they may want to "bring over" their portfolio of girls and customers, and possibly wiggle some equity plus profit share.
2. If you happen to be visiting the KTV near month-end, ask your Mummy how close (or far away) she is to her monthly quota. If she looks troubled, chances are she is short some bottles, or maybe she has to cover for a team member who has a shortfall. If you have some cash, and are planning to continue visiting the KTV again anyway - buy 3 or 4 additional bottles at the end of your visit. The Mummy will understand what you're doing and will be thankful for it. She will likely not forget your kindness as well, and if she defects to another KTV more likely than not your bottles will also "migrate" with her or have their expiry dates extended.
3. If you can be bothered to understand a more about their personal situation, help them to navigate life in Singapore. Mummies are usually PRCs or Viets, even though they may have SPR status they are generally cluless when navigating Singapore bureaucracy, and they are very sensitive to the fact that most Singaporean women view them with extreme suspicion. A personal example - a Supreme Mummy once complained to me about her high childcare fees, and I found out that she never signed an employment contract and therefore has not gotten the government's Working Mother Subsidies for Childcare and Infant care. I told her what to do, gave her the relevant links and helped her to complete the forms (which took about 15mins, not too difficult.) She was rather grateful, and until today she regards me as her friend (even though I am no longer a customer).
4. Treat Mummy as a human being, she is usually doing a job to support a young family. Some "modern new Mummies" are famously not like this, I am aware - they are more like hybrid KTV girl + Mummy and seem to spend all their money on luxury goods and probably have a few older clients who still have access to their pussy. If you have some fetish for fucking a KTV Mummy, then be aware that you are really going for a difficult proposition - your "competition" for her old and heavily used pussy will likely be older men who have a lot of cash, and Mummies are usually immune to the charms of a young man - they probably got their hearts cheated many times before and are quite immune to your feeble "young man" tricks in trying to smell her pussy. If you are open and honest with your Mummy, more likely than not she will also respond in kind - and you become the most valuable type of commodity in her harsh nightlife world - a "good, honest man". This can pay dividends well beyond getting a great KTV experience, many times a Viet Mummy has stood up for me, and tells off a Viet girl (who then angrily asks her why she choose to defend a customer over a girl). If you ever reach that point, then you will understand that in her books, you are more valuable than the girl.
To end this all off, I noticed some nicks have taken exception to your response and deducted enough points to put your profile back in moderation hell. I upped you 45 points so you have some apparent credibility in having (hopefully still) positive rep points.

Bro Shioking - I applaud your spirit of sharing and your initiative in holding regular outings. If my circumstances were a little different, I would have surely joined one of your outings and probably met you in person. I have this feeling that we have a lot in common, and will have a lot to talk about.
I still visit a KTV every now and then (usually when an older Mummy has a birthday celebration and I get an invite), so as a retired chiongster I sit, observe and ask a lot of questions - I know quite a bit of second-hand knowledge about Level 9 and your troubles with getting good service (in another thread). So maybe I can offer a little perspective.
I believe we have both chiong-ed for more than 10 years (conservatively) and "burnt" hundred of ks each, minimum. I believe you have also been through that era of the Malaysian Chinese KTV girls, then the Thais/PRCs and now the era of the Viets/ (plus a few stray Cambodians and Myanmarese)
I view the current situation, as a predictable result of hungry, starved chiongsters jumping headlong into the KTV scene after the long Covid hiatus. We have a generation of new, young chiongsters who has never stepped into a KTV the last 3 years, and no context of what it was like in the older days - the basic laws of Supply and Demand heavily favour the KTV girl in the current day and age, and her absurdly high prices are a simple necessity due to her increased cost of living.
I am sure you are more than familiar with some of these figures that I will quote:
Pre-pandemic an "Spass" costs no more than $3500 - now they go for $4500 and up. I know quite a few of these "Spass suppliers" and as a professional accountant by training, I understand why their prices are up (their profits are the same, they didn't jack up prices because they want to earn more)
Pre-pandemic a bed in a shared room - probably in a HDB flat within 15-20 mins Grab ride from Orchard costs $500, today it is more than $1000, more likely $1500
All KTV girls live on Grab - my girl still chooses to work (in an HFJ, not in a KTV nowadays because the money is better and no need to drink until drunk). Her typical (transport) Grab bill for a month used to be no more than $1,000. Nowadays it is close to $2,500 and sometimes even $3,000
Before the pandemic, a girl on Spass has a "break-even" figure of roughly $4500-$5000 before she can earn a single dollar to send home. Today that number is close to $7,000-$8,000.
A "normal" KTV girl does not get a booking every night. In the current high-cost era, even if a KTV girl gets a $500 "booking" 5 times a week, all she gets left over is $4,000 ($12,000 revenue less $8000 costs)- not much unless she sells her pussy, or has "supporters". These are harsh truths for the KTV girl, for which most chiongsters are blissfully ignorant about. Yes many girls earn upwards of $25K but those are typically the exception and not the rule.
So what does all this mean? Salaries didn't increase all that much these few years, but the pent up desires of chiongsters are simply there and the customer base doesn't have a lot more money now than pre-pandemic. So I think, simple inflationary pressures is the basis for most of the unhappiness that I see in the KTV thread.
I fully sympathize with these frustrated younger chiongsters, and unfortunately I have no solution to the "problem". But my point in the previous replies follow a simple theme - be tactical, choose your mummies carefully and treat them with compassion (and not like a piece of nightlife dirt). They are sensitive, and they will know it when a customer displays unusual compassion and care (and more likely than not, the Mummy will respond accordingly)

Maybe you should understand how a KTV is run - then you probably understand how stupid your suggestion is.
Singapore runs on money, and nightlife especially. If your suggestion were true then economically the Mummy will be forced out of the system already, and most KTVs will have a no-Mummy system.
Yet this is not the case today, the no-Mummy KTVs are the lower-end joints with old girls at the tail end of their working lives. Maybe you are more suited to those places, bro.
Calling people names, usually just mean you have no substantive reply. Hence the last resort. Poor thing.
Free account, some more - can't even bother to support the very forum you post in. No wonder you demand the world for your $100
A KTV need Mummies, to enforce discipline and also to protect the interests of KTV management. KTV girls are generally a bunch of young, undisciplined young women many of whom don't have work passes and are transient in nature. A KTV must earn money, mainly through the sale of expensive liquor and hence the mummies are a necessary part of the "sales force".
Maybe that has changed, or will change - I don't know. I just offer some "old bird" perspective since you as a disgruntled cheap customer can't seem to afford much, yet want to continue chionging in KTV.
Sad. :p

First of all thanks for the points and taking the time to write a detailed response to my somewhat rudely worded comment. My intent is not to offend, I just like to argue with strangers online. Btw while I don't consider myself old, I have been going to KTVs for over 10 years. So I don't need all this explained to me.
Anyway I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying we have a right to be rude to MMs. As with all service staff, we should should always try to be as polite as possible. Despite the way I type, I have never been anything but polite to wait staff. On the flip side, it is literally their job to be courteous to US. My issue is with the MMs who cannot even fulfill that basic obligation. I don't care about preferential treatment, I don't want to get back "a little more" from them. I don't want to grope or fuck them like you keep implying for some odd reason. I just want some basic respect as a paying customer.
Just as an example, if you go to a PB and they offer you a solution you're not happy with, do they give you a fucking dulan face and ask you why you're so picky? Cos this has happened a couple times to me and my friends recently with certain MMs. We tell them we're not interested in the initial line-up and they get visibly annoyed. Or things like not once checking in with us for the entire session. Small gestures matter in the service industry, and unfortunately too many MMs can't even be bothered to do the bare minimum nowadays. These are the ones I'm talking about that don't deserve to be tipped. Not your best friends from the 90s. I'm not advocating for total abolition of the MM system like the TS. I can appreciate when it works. What I am saying is that bros shouldn't feel pressured into tipping if they encounter subpar service.
Also good for you for having all that cash. For some of us, it's not the cost, it's the principle. No need to keep telling us we're poor. Even if I were Jeff fucking Bezos, if a waiter is rude to me, I'm still not gonna tip him (not that I tip waiters in SG, just giving an example lol).

Thank you for the clarification. I interpreted your words literally and at face value since that is exactly how you wrote your reply.
I have seen the kind of "rubbish" service that the younger KTV mummy gives nowadays. If you have indeed chiong for more than 10 years, then at least you will understand that this is an unfortunate result of many older mummies who are still earning money in other trades and have not re-joined the industry.
My personal view, is that a lot of these older mummies will come back. They know how to keep a customer, but they need some times to transition back from their current jobs/businesses which were built up in the last few pandemic years simply because of necessity. Most of these mummies have young families, and they have had to work gig jobs when KTV closed for the last 2.5 years.
Once they return, I believe the new mummies with the bad attitude will be displaced quite quickly. I already know one or two who have transitioned back, and they have quite quickly re-established their old clientele. These "old clients" are the ones with $$, not the young upstarts who expect the world for $100

Not your best friend from the 90s :D ouch.
Summary, ktv is not meant for budget customers. You will not get the service (or respect) you want unless you are their target customer.

Going ktv the last thing I wanna do is waste too much time on the mummy. All mummy contact I had is too old for my liking

Dude. You sounded like you high on drugs. We as customers, I dont see a need for us to put in the effort to win the mummy's heart. Only idiots like you does that. They should just do away with the mummy system. Its a stupid move to carrot head people like us. Pui!
Ya agreed. Spending time with mummy is the last thing i wanna do in the room

Sad. :p
Sad to say I have not met any mummy as described in my 10 plus years chionging.

Let's all keep calm bros. Life is often about values & choices, & no one is wrong, as each have free will. In the end, choices come with consequences & only one can live with such, no one else.
The insignificant nobody me would list Mr Penguin23 as a Type A KTV/Lounge lizard. There are no ranks, just category. He is probably someone who has money, & would not mind investing such money in building relationships, to build respect & gain respect in return. Nothing wrong with this life strategy. As some would say, pay a bit more money & be owed favors, which would be have to be repaid back in good will by others, anything from $1 to one's life...
Mr 3someking strikes me as a Type B KTV/Lounge lizard - the hit or miss type. He too probably has money, & probably worked very hard over the years to gain it, & thus would rather be cautious with spending, & will only spend on value, not frivolously or scammed. Nothing wrong with this life strategy, as that's how the rich became rich - by savings & not by throwing money away.
Make NO mistake - KTVs are NOT Gentlemen's Club. In Gentlemen's Clubs such as SRC ( Singapore Recreation Club ), it is a private club where millionaires gather. They have sport facilities, dining, lounge & even private rooms. In such rooms which are soundproof, they can organize Karaoke sessions with their lady friends, as guests - they sure don't butterfly. In another room, you will find men discussing about social or biz issues. It is a place of decorum, refinement, class & polished social status upkeep.
KTVs are purely an entertainment outlet for one to indulge in the senses - liquor & passion, to relieve stress, etc, which is why there are beautifully dressed & coiffured hostesses, to accompany guests, to chat, to sing, to drink & keep guests happy.
As Singapore is an equal society, anyone is FREE to visit such establishment of fun & recreation - rich or poor, as ALL Humans do need a break/breather from servitude to others & be served instead no matter how short the break or holiday is, to recharged back to life, so long as one has the funds/budget - either on company expense account, own saved up funds, to patronize everyday or once a week, a month, a year, etc. Each has free choice & will not be looked down upon as this is Singapore.
In the past, hostessing was allowed in Singapore, but limited by quota & SPF guidelines, which led to the growth of the mamasan system - to manage & maintain the ladies to ensure they do their jobs, as Mr 3someking had pointed out - a baseline of service standard for payment given, if nothing of such, then customers would had been scammed.
However, this thread's points are moot, as hostessing HAD BEEN BANNED, due to covid fears. With such a ban, there will be no hostess as no work permit would be issued. With no hostess, there would be no mamasan. Any KTV that employs hostesses would be an illegal entity, & thus the raids.
Therefore, innovative solutions are needed for KTVs to operate successfully the legal way, & await for the Ban to be lifted as covid is no longer feared, so that there will be valid work permit hostesses again, with or without mamasans or a better system used.
For sure - short changing customers leading to their complaints & such illegal joints discovered will only ensure the Ban will remain.

This is my 25th year. So yes i have been through the three major eras that u described.. To me its the BOSS/tiananmen/Lido era to the Verge era to now this current shitty era.. Times have changed conditions have changed supply and demand have changed.. Can only wait for those mamis to be back its not worthwhile to invest in the current young viet mamis.. The young ones will not understand how the old mamis r value for us.. Im trying to balance both sides.. Holding on to our own principles as well as moving with times.. I dont want to be a nokia and get phased out if u know what i mean...

I must admit that the costs really rose quite abit. Pre covid I used to go more than 3 times a week when I used to be quite close to laojiao mommy and papa.
Nowadays going once a month or not even going post covid.
You can say I can't afford it but to me I just think my money can get me more elsewhere.
I only chiong with 1 more friend at most. And we usually go late because of work arrangements.
So breakdown is always:
Mommy tip $100
Lady tip $100-$150 (this part is alil ridiculous)
At least 3-4 Waiters appearing at the end to ask for tips and the Lady or Mommy will pressure to tip all 4 even you only seen 1 before.
For drinks, this can't be controlled much so let's skip.
But hey to be fair, some people have to keep this scene alive right? So people who can afford it go ahead. So poor people like me can go once in a blue moon when I have the extra cash. 😂 there is never a right and wrong, its about demand and supply, the weak will be weeded out.

To a certain extent, I agree with Bro Penguin. I have been chionging for more than 10 years. From places without mummies like Ye Shanghai, Chinadoll to Dynasty, Lido, Central for china girls. Jazzy 51, Bunker at Joo Chiat, V clubs to now L9, Empire, Fusion8, BVL for viets.
Personally I feel that mummies are very important but you have to meet the right one. It also depends on the occasion that you are having. Mummies tend to regulate traffic into your room and to segregate out the good and bad girls. They also help to intro new and fresh stocks and to keep u aware of what the girls u fancy are doing. They will also know which girl can play or can drink well. Of course, these are the experienced mummies mostly found in China ktv, as for Viet ktvs I have seen many young mummies, some used to be girls pre covid. Every ktv I go, I never change mummy but I have regular ones and they treat me like friends. Sometimes giving me free tower or free martell, you need to communicate with them.
The things I usually do is to state what kind of girl I prefer although after awhile they know my preference. I also always play dice or cards with the mummy, because when the girls come in and see that u are on good terms with the mummy, they will also give you more face. And this gives them the impression they can’t play punk with you.
As for waiters, I only tip those whom serve me and bother to play dice or chat with me.
Cheers

Many mm these days are not worth the $100 tips. I find this especially so for the vietnam mm's as they side the girls more over the customers. Any complaints and you would receive a sympathetic nod or worse they would simply ask you to choose another girl
That said I have met good mm's that is worth every tip they earn and more. These mm's are able to read the room and make sure that the girls work hard instead of wasting time surfing phones or lounging around in the common area. So at the end of the day both 3someking and Penguin23 are right. Majority of the experiences for bros would be that of 3someking where the average mm is simply garbage. Those that have an eye for building relationships (AND $$$) are able to get the mm's to work for them. This takes time and effort though which many bros simply would not experience.
Verge days was when the viets becoming popular together with the Cambodians.
Before verge, pearl centre was the bomb… Viet girls all over you with the mummy also experienced Viet. I remember Mummy Tiffany there 15 years ago, no longer in the scene I think.

One of the more recent ''pattern'' that the mummy come out with is post covid is booking + 1 room!
Can never understand this concept, booking is booking, else why call it booking! Dunno who is the one came out with the idea of +1 room from!
I always tell the girl/mummy if I am booking, no such thing as+1 room, else i won't book. And if i catch the girl run other room I will cancel the booking and just pay normal tip only.

From your reply, it is obvious that you know nothing of the real PB world. Please don’t think that privileged banking is the same as private banking
For the normal PB clients who only have a couple of millions with the bank, they usually just get the standard services that the bank offer. Don’t expect the bankers to grovel after the clients for money. And bankers are also called relationship managers or RM for short. These RMs are there to build long lasting banking relationships with the families lasting multiple generations.
You seems to think that your 100 is worth a lot. Please note that a PB client usually earn much more than the banker. Are you sure u earn more than these KTV gals?
Go KTV and have your fun. If that KTV don’t suit you, just find another one till you had one that suit you

I like to spend time w my mummies den the girls actually, I find them more attractive den the girls.
You must be one of the rare type of customers that go for Mummy and not for the girl. Lol. To each his own.
My best friend from JC days is exactly like this. From a roomful of sexy, willing young ladies he go choose a 35 yo China Mummy with a +1. But he's very happy, and still with the Mummy after 10 years together.
They like to go out and say, that they are married.
They are indeed married, just not to each other.

i think more fun to "play with mummy" than to play with girls. again at least the mms i frequent is not an old hag ah.
i think its also the fact that "girls are expected to play with customers" but mms have no obligation to? so feels more like "forbidden fruit" :p

This has been around for quite a while actually. It used to apply to the ang pais who would try to wiggle more than the booking rate by sneaking in one or two additional "butterfly" rooms in addition to their booking. These were not mummy-approved of course (but the mummies know it happens).
An ex KTV girl I know well could do 9 rooms for HH, and the same number for NH if she did butterfly all the way, but that will mean she gets sent back by her Mummy dead drunk. Drunk sex with her was quite fun, though. In time she "graduated" to juggling two "bookings" during one slot, because she calculated that this was actually the better and more profitable strategy.

I don’t think the bros here expect to be treated like a king. They expect the gals and waiters to show basic respect and not treat them like a fool. It is not about the $100 big or small. Will you be happy if you order a bowl of fishball noodles and the hawker throw it infront of you? Or he ask you to queue behind a regular.

well… if the hawker throw it in front of you and you are not happy, don’t patronise it again… you have a choice. It is your fault if you keep returning to the hawker even though you don’t like his attitude.
The 100 that you spend will have different mileage at different joints and with different gals… If you only go to those fully booked joints or ask for those ang pai gals, don’t expect to receive the same treatment as that in a empty joint or not so pretty gal.
And regulars do have priority at a lot of places if you did not realise it yet… I can skip q to get my daily coffee at work by simply calling the manager to prepare the coffee while I am waiting for the lift. I can get seats at my favourite sushi restaurant even though it is supposed to be fully reversed

Think TS is talking about whether it is worth it to pay 100 to the mummy and not whether he can afford or not. For me I can definitely afford the 100 but I don't think that the mummy that I had encountered so far in most of my ktv outing is worth the money. They don't control the girls, they don't recommend girls and just ask everyone to come in. A waiter can do that also. And worse part is they are pushy and keep insisting this girl good good must take, if don't take no more choice liao etc. And ask assistant to come in my room and expect me to pay both. Do remember they also got commission on alcohol bought.
Actually quite surprised so many bro here are so protective and supportive of the mummy system. Likely they do have good encountered which I don't. Cheer and peace

Interesting reading every bros views on the matter. It does seems to be the trend that more and more younger and new mummies are really not pulling their weight in terms of what we used to get from MMS in the past.
From my personal perspective I feel that the kind of ROI frp, my expected spending in a KTV just doesn't give me the same form of satisfaction that it used to do in the past. Granted I'm not well off, and used to take advantage of HH sessions to go to KTVs pre-COVID, so the current situation has made me reluctant to spend more for less then I'm used to.
I've actually done some calculations and the amount I would spend in about 6 visits to KTVs here now, I'd be able to save enough for a 4D3N budget trip to BKK with more enjoyment. Assuming a once a week visit to a KTV, this would mean that I could potentially go for a BKK trip every other month if I cut this expenditure out.

There's no need to envy about. A drinking buddy of mine has been chiong yrs in Thai, viet, sg, chi .etc basically all over Asia & was told he just kanna stage 4 cancer. Ktvs is just for leisure so pls don't make it a "must have" thing in ur life, there r better "real" enjoyment in life.
Anyway, I think it's more important that u think for urself whether the current price is reasonable or not. To me, I used to give my favorite mummies $100 instead of $50 & waiters tips as $30, so it doesn't make much difference on that part. But now at $100 for all is kinda overkill & by charging additional 10% is really a big turn off to me. Peace ✌🏻

I just came back from bkk. I think you may be underestimating the budget to spend for a 4d3n but also depends on how you want to experience bkk.
I personally spent like 2k+3k sgd in the span of 4d3n.
last min plane tickets, to outcall from okt, ktv, nuru.
Again was my "virgin" chiong trip there so i was more willing to spend to experience what it would be like. i am aware that there are way cheaper options like thermae
We all also have to admit that ktv is a luxury whereby the drinks and tips are marked up way higher than a typical bar/pub.
The cheaper option is to go to a pub, open 1 tower HH tend to be below $60. tips for "waitress" range from 20-100, but mostly dependent on yourself. you'll all in spend $100 a night if you maintain this expectation.

It is comprehensible that in relation to the thread, some might think going overseas would be a better option than throwing away money for a current mediocre KTV experience here.
However, there are points to consider. And one of them is time. Most if not all Singaporeans are very hardworking, & spend little time for needed recreation, & hardly even take leave, unless one is retired young or old, or one's biz is so well managed that one can just fly off without a care.
Money does not take leave or have holidays, so too we. 4d/3N for a better KTV experience? Most would shudder at the thought. If there is a bit time off during workdays, it would be less time consuming to spend it here, with lower expectations or follow the advices of fellow brothers reviews.
Another point to consider is safety. Me too, long to be able to take a break overseas, like I used to when my responsibilities were lower. It was before covid that I had a holiday away from work in Thailand, to visit its nightlife-awesome opulent hi-end KTVs, the charm, etc. It was always a great place to visit, a land of smiles, so much that I became complacent.
Being an explorer at heart, I visited a KTV at one of the Sols in Bangkok. It was mediocre at best, & after 2hrs I decided to leave, & had a shock when the bill came. It was 3 times the published rates. I demanded an explanation from the manager. Accompanied by 3 muscular men, he demanded instead I pay up or else I would face trouble.
Not wanting to create a scene, I paid up. Then I walked to another pub a few doors away, sought out the chief bouncer, & told him of my encounter. I push a US$100 note to him, thanked him for listening to my woes, & walked away.
He pocketed the dollars & knew what was expected unspoken, then made a phone call as I was walking away, to a foodstall just opposite, sat down, ordered a coffee & slowly sip the drink.
Within 15mins, a group of burly men charged into the errant KTV. Screams & shouts were heard, following by breaking of glasses & customers fleeing out. Within another 10mins, it was all over. Those men were professionals. None was hurt or harm, but that KTV's lights were off. They had shut down for the night.
There was nothing to be proud of over of what I had done. I can only live with the hope that the scamming manager would learn his lesson, & also hope that I had at least saved a few other customers from being fleeced that night.
Point is - Singapore is a Rule of Law nation & relatively safe, but NONE should be complacent to presume that other nations are the same. Here, there are legal ways to serve justice to errant establishments, but elsewhere, being tourists, we can be easy meat if we do not know their rules of the game.
More so if one is drunk & alone. The only safe place to be drunk, perhaps just to not think too much about issues bothering one's mind & heart, is one's own room, regardless if here or overseas. When outside, there must still be some control & hold over one's liquor intake as well as other safety precautionary measures.

Cheers

I second this.
I used to be a good, no sorry I should say, GREAT drinker. I can down pint after pints, switch to cognac, take shots in between, finish the night with some bubbly champagne then give my girl of the night a lift home before I head home to rest for 3 hours before starting my day in office.
After a certain age, the system went haywire. I must've overused my body's mileage. I had sudden blackouts and nowadays my limits are 4 pints before my head start spinning. I no longer enjoy as much the alcohol highs because it makes me weak, literally.
Wake-up call was one night when I got drunk in our good old safe singapore, and after my friends left me to wait for a cab alone, I picked a fight with a younger boy and ended up being smashed to the floor by his group of backups.
I woke up with bruises to my face and could only remember I was beaten up before I blackout. It was embarrassing. I was lucky back then Stomp and Facebook video shaming wasn't so popular.
The following week, I signed up for Muay Thai because I decided that the best defence is self-defence. But I never went out drinking alone anymore, heck I don't even get drunk anymore. Its just not worth the risk, even in our own country.

dont be simp bro.. you pay fisherman 10$ for fresh fish, if the fish especially fresh, maybe you tip him another 5$.. but you dont pay the fisherman 15$ just to not be given rotten fish! :D
I think you have a problem with reading comprehension. But, not going to argue with you here. You only read one post and you reacted. Old nick, but no patience to read - maybe you were straining to read on your mobile phone screen, and forgot your reading glasses? Lol
I only keep a few Mummy contacts, and have had more than my fair share of bad Mummies whom I deleted and will not contact ever again.
I just say, that it is worthwhile to invest in human relationships. I think, this is a strange concept to you, that's fine by me - we are all here to share our views.
Yes, this sometimes feels to me like throwing pearls to pigs, in that case I move on and find a better, more deserving Mummy.
I don't throw money to beg them to do their jobs, I try hard to use my money in a way where the Mummy realizes that I understand her situation, and am looking out for her. Hopefully by doing so, the mummy will have the decency to return the favour in kind during future visits. If you chiong long enough, you will notice that Mummies have their favourite customers too. Some of the "better" and "fresh" girls, they will reserve for their "good customers" list. Perhaps a fresh girl who just joined, is afraid to humsup and not open to going to a hotel but hoping to sit with someone who sees them as a woman and not a fuck-toy to be groped all night long just because you paid the booking fee. Sometimes an ang pai, who is having a bad day and ask Mummy for help to secure a booking because she needs the money. Your dollars and mine are the same, but how you use it can have a very different effect on the long term outcome.
I probably don't need to tell you, that Mummy have access to information that you don't so getting her on your side can only be a benefit.
I am sure, that your value-for-money approach will end up with your bank balance being significantly higher than mine. OK, you win, lol.
But, I like to think that I will end up with a lot more fond memories of my days in nightlife, than people like you. Perhaps you take great satisfaction about how you did not waste any money on Mummy tips and spent only what was necessary. Good for you, I am sure your descendants will treasure the additional money.
To each his own. I wish you the best in your value-for-money adventure.
And try not to forget to wear your reading glasses next time.

I think to each his own. Some bros only look for VFM, some are willing to pay alittle more to be served better. End of the day no wrong and no right. Your money, your life. You decide what you want to do with it.
but using your fisherman analogy ah. i think it proves bro Penguin's point also. I believe that what bro Penguin's point is simply that building rapport with mms won't do you any harm.
If you bother to build a good relationship with your regular KTV mummy, the tip you pay her is well worth it.
On the tipping, its quite standard that you have to tip regardless whether "they do their job or not". I'm not gonna create a fuss just because the mms didn't provide me a satisfactory service. I'll just make a mental note to never use her again.
To reiterate on the good rapport,
i've a good relationship with a mms. she occasionally pay for my drinks, pay for my girls tips. theres nothing sexual or "extra" about our relationship as well. just friends.
my friend has a long standing good rs with a pps. whenever we go, he order food for us. buy us drinks. dont even want to collect a single cent from us. in turn, we support him whenever possible.
KTV aside,
i even have good rapport with the kopi auntie at where i buy my morning coffees. i dont need to queue, dont need to order. buy carton of cigg, nett pricing, give me free coffee free lighter. i collected so many lighters to the extent that i can start to sell them.
Back to the fisherman analogy, when you pay $10 for the fish. I believe most of us have no idea how fresh or rotten the fish is BUT you build a good relationship with the fisherman so he saves the best fish for you at the same price or he gives you a little extra each time.

Very well said. Especially the last paragraphs. That's what I try to do with every "supplier" in my life.. and in the ktv scene Mami is or rather WAS a source of supply for that type of fun

It applies to even aspects of our day to day life bro. If bros don't even get the idea of rapport with supplies, hohseh liao.
Will join you when time is right bro.
As I'm writing this, I'm at xxxxxx and mms pay girl tips for me :D

That’s why people say Singaporeans are innocent and naive, very easy to cheat. If you are in sales, you will know the tactics to build rapport with customers. No matter what freebies the salesman throw in, they will never make a loss. Of course, if you feel happy to spend more than others and get back a little extra, that’s your prerogative.

Very good read from both sides, especially bros who shared their stories and experiences. Lots of learning points here. I would say there are no right or wrong here, just different perspectives and how one chooses to spend his money.
I have always been a 'carrot head' myself. Not saying it's something I am proud of, but to me it is money I have put aside to spend. It's nothing to do with whether I am rich throwing money away. I am just an ordinary guy. The world is not perfect and life is not fair. Yes, you should expect good service for the money you're paying but you know in reality, it is not always the case. Lesson learnt and just move on. Meaning, just LL suck thumb and not to patronise the same establishment or same girls again. Some may say it's stupid. But to me, it is my decision to pick this place, and my decision to pick these girls. Whether is because of 'reviews' I read, or I walk past the place and I feel 'gian' to try or I have had good experience with this place in the past, or I use my little bird to think than my big brain. Ultimately, it has been my decision.
At the end of the day I accumulate more personal experiences that I bring to my next chionging session. And hope that I become a smaller carrot head than I was previously.
