The Chinese daily also highlighted an article criticising Singaporean women for being snobbish and not wanting to date men who earned less than they did no matter how good looking they were.

The article claimed that in a survey, it was found that Singa­porean women found a man earning S$8,000 (RM19,200) sexy, even if he was ugly in real life.

The survey, which was carried out by Razor TV, said the sexiness of a man had no direct correlation with his physical appearance but to his salary.

The online television service’s product unit had taken photographs of three men and showed them to women on the streets, asking them to give their opinions before and after revealing their wages.

The results showed that a handsome man who was scored highly by the women had his marks “deducted” after it was revealed that he earned less than his “competitors”.

In their interviews, the women said the type of car driven by the men also affected their sexiness.

However, they denied being snobbish, adding that men’s income reflected their personality.

Bro, I've been away from Singapore for about 5 years, now I stationed in KL, got a wife here 2 years ago. "Generally" (Not all, in case I kena flame) most girls have such demand in Singapore, it's the society that greatly affect everyone of us.

It's good to venture out of the comfort zone once awhile. Frankly I'm still very proud to be a Singaporean as I have travelled many countries and seen alot of them struggling with politics, crime is everywhere too. Just cherish what Singapore have to offer and if you deem the girls are too materialistic, there's always other alternative.;)

Used to stay in Singapore and there's definitely a strong vibe from the womenfolk there, with regards to material possessions and the like. As an expat in Singapore, women would always assume that you are a prized catch regardless if you are actually on company's expense and just a middle-top level management. I have seen many fellow counterparts getting laid, and i swear this are some of the people that wont even get a second glance back home! Seriously. All they have is just maybe a nice apartment in the River Valley area (paid by co), an entry level luxury car (2.0 litres and above) and its wham, bam, thank you ma'am.

Not to say this is only prevalent in Singapore, but problem is - its explicitly put across in their intentions. Somehow you know that the person is only with you for ulterior motives. Kinda of a turn off.

Bro. I totally agree with your point. I'm sure this happened in any well developed countries. I have good income with plenty to splurge after setting aside a sum for savings but as you highlighted knowing a person with ulterior motives is a super turn off for me too. ;)

Sometimes, it is not really that we don't want SG gals and go for foreigners. But some locals expect so much but have so little to offer. I make a decent wage that by the report in this thread would be graded as "attractive", but I sincerely wish that it is more than my earning capabilities that makes me "attractive" :(
