Man charged with running brothels in 3 condos
 

He had allegedly housed prostitutes in three condominiums. The eight Thai women that Tan Chiang Wah is accused of harbouring, stayed in private apartments in areas known for late-night dining.

Tan, 36, was charged on Nov 18 with allegedly operating a prostitution ring at Rangoon Apartment on Rangoon Road, and Pristine Heights and Clydes Residence - both on Mergui Road, off Balestier Road. Between June 11 and Sept 18 last year, Tan had allegedly procured the women, whose ages ranged from 19 to 35, from a flat in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. Tan, who is a Singaporean, faced 10 charges of procuring the women for prostitution. He faces another 10 charges of living off the women's earnings.

There was no mention of how much Tan had earned from them. Tan also faced 10 charges of harbouring the women in the condo units. The apartments were said to have been used as brothels between Sept 13 and Sept 25 last year. There were no details of the women's clients. THREW LAPTOP Finally, at about 8pm on Sept 25, 2013, Tan was said to have attempted to destroy evidence by throwing a laptop from the kitchen window of the sixth-storey HDB unit where he had procured the women. If Tan is convicted of procuring the Thai women, he could face a jail term of up to five years and a fine of up to $10,000. He could face the same penalties if he is convicted of harbouring the women and living on their earnings. Under the Women's Charter, Tan can be jailed up to three years and fined a maximum of $3,000 for using the apartments as brothels. If found guilty of trying to destroy evidence, Tan can be jailed up to two years or fined, or both.
