Adults 1.7 million [1.6–2.1 million]
Children under 15 years 330 000 [310 000–380 000]

Source: http://data.unaids.org/pub/EPISlides/2007/2007_epiupdate_en.pdf

Every day, over 6800 persons become infected with HIV and over 570 persons die from AIDS, mostly because of inadequate access to HIV prevention and treatment services.

In China, AIDS is spreading mad among drug users. A Even faster epidemic than Sex.

With all these happening, People if still insist in RAW is really playing with Death. With 4.6 Million in singapore, all it takes is 10 unreported cases to wipe out the whole nation in 3 years.

Our fore fathers, build this place with their bare hands and we had suffered greatly before our golden years, today we experienced many rewards and so much vested interest, its truly a waste that some inconsiderate humans would take a risk with fate putting everyone at the edge.

Think about this:

1 infected man had sex with another = 2

2 x 2 = 4
4 x 4 = 16
16 x 16 = 256
256 x 256 = 65536
65536 x 65536 = 429 496 7269

Work out the maths and just see for yourself if we have a few fucked up bastards who just love using ONLY Flesh. This is how we will be ruined.

Guys, Can we Pls be more responsible in our actions. Read those updates from the websites about AIDS, it really takes every individual to be Pro-active for this World to be safe enough for our future generations.

If one's living is not a good enough reason to have safe sex, pls wear rubber for the sake of your kid who might potentially be exposed in future.

Sad to read threads about people still doing RAW these days. :(

If SGP gals / women can sextify their bfs / husbands more, the guys are much less likely to eat outside, which will oso reduce the risk & spread significantly.

You are talking absolute hogwash!

Your statistics assume that the probability of transmission of the HIV virus is close to 100%! In reality, the probability of transmission per act from an HIV positive woman to an HIV negative partner is only 0.0013 if no protection is used.

There is therefore no way that infection rates can follow a geometric progression.

This "raw is war" crap is a load of bull. Whores are free to do as they please with their customers and the decision whether or not to use protection is a matter of private negotiation between customer and sex worker.

ALL whores should be treated as potentially HIV positive by those who fear catching the deadly disease. In order to protect themselves, they should use condoms. It is none of their business whether or not whores use condoms with other customers or with their husbands, boyfriends, lovers, teraks and what have you.

You have been zapped for your stupid comments.

Thanks for the reminder, I'm all for condoms. The 429.5 million infections from 2 sources sounds like resident evil.

Ok if 2 men can start a epidemic of 429 million infected cases, and we now have 33 million HIV positives, why are there only 2.5M new cases? At this rate where new cases is almost the same amount as AIDS related deaths, it sort of hard to work out the large increase required to call it an epidemic.

But then if the new cases are all in cities (and not in africa or some third world countries), then this is serious cause for concerns. Adding to the fact that city folks are much more well informed than village folks, that means a shift in the people getting AIDS, and they got it actually by choice (as in they know and still ignore the warning).

Just dun take unnecessary risk la.

In reality, the probability of transmission per act from an HIV positive woman to an HIV negative partner is only 0.0013 if no protection is used.

And then the probability is also different depending on the mating pair. E.g. HIV positive male to female has a higher transmission rate than HIV positive female to a male. Due to more profound transmission of virus carrying bodily fluid (sperm) into the female's system.

Not sure about male to male probability, but I guess it depends on how the pair of homo fcuk each other; any possibility in transmission of blood/body fluid.

So TS, these are all good research topics to cover and beef up your school report :D

I have no problems with the data from the world health organisation and the UN.

I do take issue with the claim that the spread of HIV follows a geometric progression (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geometric_progression).

Patients suffering from HIV may appear healthy, and symptoms may appear only after a few years. So we may not be so sure to who's infected and who's not if the patient doesn't go for regular check up i guess?

Anyway, some patients might be HIV carriers but do not progress into AIDS. There are also people who are rather resistant to HIV infections, generally due to genetic mutations that are non-fatal.

I'm not trying to encourage raw sex. Just some info that i find interesting to share. Not everyone who comes into contact with a HIV infected person gets it, but it's still better to be safe. :)

Lastly, if the geometric progression thing was true... we would have been wiped out a long time ago. Because AIDS was recognised and defined in early 1980s.

I heard of this so-called immunity to HIV by certain individuals but are there any studies on them to "extract" the immunity from them to get a vaccine? It would be nice if there's any test out there we can take to see if one is "immune" or not, so at least can get more peace in mind when bonking

Just writing this from what i know..

To be more scientific.. for the virus to be able to infect an individual, the virus and the cell must be able to bind to allow invasion. This immunity that certain people have is because the surface receptor of his/her cell responsible for the binding is mutated... such that the virus cannot bind and hence cannot infect the individual. Another possible case is that the individual may be naturally producing abnormally high amounts of a certain compound called chemokines which blocks the binding. These are mainly due to genetic mutations in the individual... so far technology is unable to change the genes of men (unless you're talking about stem cells or embryonic stage).. Many research are ongoing but the vaccines produced so far are unable to provide broad protective responses (even HIV has different subtypes, although some are more common than the others).

One way of getting infected with HIV is through sexual intercourse - mucosal surface of the genitals are in contact. It's difficult to prevent infection since our mucosal surfaces are generally less responsive to foreign particles (if they are very responsive we will fall sick all the time because these surfaces are always exposed to bacteria/ viruses..)

HIV is different in a sense that it attaches its genomic material to your cell and grows as your cell divides.. not like some other viruses that are lying in your bloodstream and prone to immune attack.. So it's quite difficult for your body to tell which are the infected cells.. nonetheless for a good drug to differentiate between healthy and infected cells..

That's why it's difficult to produce an effective vaccine or cure for HIV..

Hope these are not too confusing...

“174 monogamous couples, in which one partner was HIV-1 positive, were retrospectively identified from a population cohort in Rakai, Uganda . . . The mean frequency of intercourse was 8·9 per month, which declined with age and HIV-1 viral load. Members of couples reported similar frequencies of intercourse. The overall unadjusted probability of HIV-1 transmission per coital act was 0·0011 (95% CI 0·0008-0·0015). Transmission probabilities increased from 0·0001 per act at viral loads of less than 1700 copies/mL to 0·0023 per act at 38 500 copies/mL or more (p=0·002), and were 0·0041 with genital ulceration versus 0·0011 without (p=0·02). Transmission probabilities per act did not differ significantly by HIV-1 subtypes A and D, sex, STDs, or symptoms of discharge or dysuria in the HIV-1-positive partner...In 97 couples, the male partner was HIV-1-positive, 17 of whom transmitted the virus to their wives (17.5%). In 77 couples, the woman was the HIV-1-positive partner, 21 of whom transmitted HIV-1 to their husbands (27.3%)...The probability of transmission per act from HIV-1-positive women to their HIV-1-negative male partners was 0.0013, compared with a transmission probability of 0.0009 per act from HIV-1-positive men to HIV-1-negative women [The overall transmission rate is similar to North America, which makes it difficult to understand why the AIDS epidemic in North America is mostly among men]”

There is ongoing research using people who have symbiotic relationship with the virus or seeming immunity, but these people are extremely rare. You can't extract the immunity it just happens that the gene for the proteins floating in their cellular membrane is mutated. Pure genetic coincidence.Having the mutated gene also doesn't mean u can't get infected.Nothing is pretty much absolute on this matter. So don't ever go about thinking that you'll be the lucky one. Yes you can send your DNA sample to a genetic lab and have them sequence that particular gene but even if you possess the mutation it doesn't mean you should have unprotected sex because there's a whole plethora of STDs out there. Also the virus has a few strains and it mutates regularly making the search for a vaccine a difficult task. If it were so simple AIDs would have ceased to be an epidemic.

Dear alll,

The calculation that i had given is base on the worst of worst case scenario.

Maybe the probability is very very much lesser that 0.0013, but i am wondering if AIDS mutates to an unsafe level, we will have in our hands an epidermic.

Ever wonder why there is no cure for it, the only treatment that can be given is slowing down the damage and not cure completely.

The numbers given are only those who are identified, what about those who are still scot free roaming?

Today if we don't practise self restraint, the result which i had painted could be a possibility. Not a big sure thing but a hunch of sort.

Awareness is all i ask from all.

Pls don't argue with each other. the aim of this post is to send a message to all. Though forum admin deducted my points, all i am trying to say is Be Safe for the sake of the Children's future over a journey of Flesh exposure.

Lastly, this was to promote discussion and not cyber abuse or taunting. Points justify a sense of belonging and to some maybe status. To me its just number. Deduction or addition is depending on one's action and perspectives, if this is not alarming enough to some RAW buggers then perhaps we will be doom in time.

Thanks for the comments and added info.

AIDs is a pandemic not a mere epidemic. You need to understand that generally epidemics are the most serious in the beginning. Its only a mere 20+ years since the initial San Francisco cluster. Usually epidemics will reach a plateau and then the virulence drops and the disease vanishes. Of course in a few cases they don't vanish completely. Epidemics happen a lot in nature just as species flourish and die ,its inevitable. We are homo sapiens not homo eternus. In reality we have a lot of issues just as pressing as AIDs. Many dangerous microbes atm: H5N1, MRSA, C.diff, hepatitis etc. There are also many carcinogens like urethane, d-limonene, acrylamide etc found in our daily intakes. We are exposed to EM radiation many times above natural levels. I think many people in this forum are much more aware and knowledgeable than you give them credit for. If you can't even get your numbers & facts right or admit your ignorance on the topic how do you expect to convince people? We don't need more doomsday prophets.
